Ok. I released the version 2.0.1.0 of Color My Folder. If you have the older menu version, you can go to your start menu, Programs, Color My Folder and Check for update. If you have the latest "beta" with the new dialog interface, go to Help > Check For Update, or you can download the new setup from the website http://starpunch.net

It is now shareware. The only difference is that to use your own icons or icon resources (EXE, DLL, ICL) you need to register. Normal registration is $15, but for members of DonationCoder.com you can register for $10 by clicking this link (PayPal) https://www.paypal.c...ton_id=MUKFWW5JP77YU

Hope you guys like it.

I am not able to have the dialog resize and position the icons. They just don't move properly so I am going to leave it as is.

Well, I'll try and see what I can do about that, but for now that's the way it is. Not sure if you read the help file, but you can have 2 lines if you use the HTML code < br > to separate the lines, (no spaces) .

Yes, see the Help.pdf file for more info, but you just right click on the icon and choose Change Icon Label. I have a new version on the way with more icons also.

I just tried that, and it does not work on any Windows OS lower than Win 7. I am not sure about Vista or Windows 8. I do not have them to try on. If I do add that menu/sub-menu support it would only work on Windows 7...  :(

Sorry, I have not had a chance to test it. I have been very busy. :( I'll hopefully get to it within the next day or so.

I'll do some testing on a virtual machine, if it does then I'll start using sub menus to help keep the context menu clean. Thanks!

Yeah, I did see that. I was planning on getting around to that, but this only works on Windows 7 or higher.

Yeah, but makes for an interesting next day though.  :D

It should work on XP and higher... I have not been able test it though. Please let me know. There was a file missing from this setup, I fixed the problem and you can re-download.

A new version of Color My Folder is available, but only on the DC board for now. I guess you could call it a beta. I changed the interface and added a dialog, added support for using custom icons (in the registered version), and made it shareware since I put a lot more time into it. I do plan on adding more icons later. Please read the help.pdf file (an icon is added to the start menu for this) and please let me know what you think. I would like to release an update to v1.x within the next day or so. Thanks!  :)

That is what I do now, RC on folder, select Color My Folder, then dialog opens and double click to set icon (w/ and option to single click to set)

642
That is a limitation of the language I use, I can add items, but not in a sub menu. Sorry. Wish I could, I would have done that with all my other apps as well.

I am still thinking about if/how I would be able to make this app. I have been very busy with my job and the other apps I have (Color My Folder, FastUnzip Snack and others) that I have not had too much time as of yet to completely get into this.

644
Hmm, well I completely changed the interface. It is no longer a menu. It is a dialog that list the default folder colors available if that folder has no custom icon already, if there is a custom icon set it shows the icon or icon resource the icon is in and allows you to choose your own custom icon file (I was thinking about making it shareware since I put a lot more time into this and selecting a custom icon would be in the registered version, but not sure yet). So, I should be able to allow custom text under the icon on the dialog. Right now I use a number that corresponds to the icon number in the icon resource file.

I am not sure I completely understand your second request. Maybe since it is now on a dialog, that would not apply? See the screen shot attached for the new look as it stands now.

1) I think I am going to keep the popup menu. I already have a few apps that add to the context menu and until I find a way to make a sub-menu (cascading menu) on the context menu this helps keep the context menu less cluttered.

2) Since I am using external apps (Unrar and 7zip) I cannot "see" inside the archive unless I extract it first. If I do that it would make the app a lot slower just trying to look for a folder or EXE/msi inside.

It could. Sometimes apps auto-assign themselves to a file type every time they are run. That could be what is happening here. I'll try to look into it more when I get a chance.

2) If you check in the setting Use popup menu then double click on one of the supported archives, you'll get a popup menu. One of the items is Extrach Here which does not create a folder.
3) I can add the marquee progress bar, but keep in mind that it would not be showing the progress if the files being extracted. It'll just show that it is still extracting the archive.

I'll look into adding these features. It may take a little while though.  ;)

1) not a bad idea, but the idea was to be able to quickly extract to the current folder.
2) do you mean you want to be able to name the folder it is extracted to?
3) i can't realltly create a progress bar as i qm using external apps (7zip, unrar) to do the extracting. Best i can do is show a marquee progress bar (scroll across).
4) I'll look into adding the password support.
