One major gripe I am having is that OneNote has no Android client.

Well, that's not true. I have an Android mobile phone with this app installed and running:

A little slow on syncing, but works okay.

How about Locate32?

It's a standalone app which creates and uses its own index, but it's fast and it can search inside files.

Been using it for years. Maybe worth trying.
