with my meathod, you have a some what gui, it was just a quick thing, all it does is change the AM and PM to what ever you type into the box, that seems to be more in depth.

I don't think I want to do a full boot scan with avast, I want to find a new anti virus program that is 1. free and B. has real time protection, because whenever avast finds a virus, it locks up my computer and I have to consult with my best friend in the entire world, the handy dandy reset button on the front of my computer case.

I decided that if I can rename the file, it must not be very important, so I just deleted the file

It must not be very important, because I was able to rename it to server.exe.donotrunyet or something like that, and it didn't complain

« on: April 08, 2007, 03:49 PM »
Darn!  ;D I have messed up again... I have a boat load of shortcuts in the desktop icons folder I made, and I got lazy and never remembered to move my new icons into that folder, so now my desktop has about the same amount of icons on it, and my dumb icons folder is loaded, I really need an organize program... oh well, time to start moving and deleteing a bunch of icons

edit: well I finaly got my desktop cleaned up again after having to restart my computer because stupid avast found a virus, and when it finds a virus, it locks up my computer, and then I have to consult with my best friend in the world, mr restart button on the front of my computer, man I love that button.

Living Room / Change your system's AM and PM
« on: April 08, 2007, 03:28 PM »
That is a very bad subject, but owell, if you can come up with something better, let me know.
Anyways on with what I found out.
I found this really cool tweek for windows, I don't know what all it works with, but I am using xp pro SP2.
you can change the boring AM and PM on your clock in the system tray to what ever you want, but it has to be 5 characters or less, because anything after that wont show up.
customPM.JPG
here is a screenshot of what my pm timestamp is. I was testing to see how many characters I could use, for that I typed <(O_O)> and <(O_O is all that shows. if you want to do this, then...

Dim ws, key, am, pm

    Set ws = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

    key = "HKCU\Control Panel\International\"

am = InputBox("Type in the new AM time stamp:", "Change AM Time Stamp", "AM")

    If am <> "" Then
        ws.RegWrite key & "s1159", am
MsgBox "The AM time stamp has been successfully changed to " & am & "!" & vbNewLine & "Double-click the time in the system tray and click OK", vbInformation, "Success"
    End If

pm = InputBox("Type in the new PM time stamp:", "Change PM Time Stamp", "PM")

    If pm <> "" Then
        ws.RegWrite key & "s2359", pm
MsgBox "The PM time stamp has been successfully changed to " & pm & "!" & vbNewLine & "Double-click the time in the system tray and click OK", vbInformation, "Success"
    End If
put that code into a new file and save it as whatever.vbs and then you too can change your AM and PM timestamps
edit:I forgot to mention, after you change the timestamps, double click on the clock, and then close the time settings dialog that opens.

Living Room / Infected file in system32 folder?
« on: April 08, 2007, 03:01 PM »
Today my anti-virus program (avast home edition) came up saying that C:\WINDOWS\system32\server.exe is infected with a Win32:Trojan-gen. {Other}, I would like to know what this file is, and possibly how it got on my computer, and if I should remove it?

662
I figured you wanted windows, I just did a quick search,I was at school at the time, I will now go do a better search

ok, I havn't found anything, someone else might be able to find something

663
flip screen you have to register on the site to download the free program, I would guess registration is free, I havent used the program, but it seems like it might work, I dunno.

I am using sandboxie 2.64, and it does all of that.

665
you disable it from the computers group policies. goto this page, it has a registry way to disable it, and it also have the group policies way to disable it.

I posted in my first post that I was already using SVS, I was wanting something with more control. sandboxie gives me more control over the files, I don't have to remember where I installed the program, I just have to goto sandboxie's sandbox folder. Though both of the programs hide the registry files from you, so o well. I will just use both until I can find a better one.

Well I used sandboxie and it gets the file saving part almost perfectly, but I just didn't know how it dealt with the registry files, but after reading the technical details, I guess I can live with the way it works, though I would still like something that would atleast put the programs in their own folder in a single folder, kind of like sandboxie, but unlike sandboxie, they would first go into a folder named what ever the program is, and then it would put the programs in the folders that sandboxie uses.
I could I guess use sandboxie until someone could hopefully come up with something somewhat like sandboxie, only maybe a tad bit more organized.

Hello, I would like to ask if anyone know of a program, or has made a program to do this:
I would really like a program that would turn itself into your registry. Meaning whenever you install something this program would keep the install from saving anything to the registry. I would then like it to save the registry settings for that new program to a folder, and then you would just double click on a shortcut on your desktop this this program made for any icons the installed program was supposed to make. That way when ever you ran the program from the special icon(or from a list in the program I guess) all registry and file changes would be saved to a folder. Let me make some screen shots and see if I can make this more clear.

ok I made a lot of screenshots, so I built a simple page on my site, so to view them, go screenshots removed from my website

I would really like it if someone could come up with a program that would do this, I mentioned in a different thread that I used altris virtualization solution, well that halfway works, but not exactly how I want it to. It saves all the registry files and what not in some special place I don't know about. Plus it also uses the registry, I don't know about you, but I want a virtualization program that doesn't use the registry.
Please and thank you in advance.

it's not top of the line, but the windows movie maker that comes with windows xp has text effects and some special effects, but you probably already knew that.

If you want an editor that allows you to install new syntax files to it (includes syntax files on the site), then you could use Crimson Editor.

Does this support windows vista? I tried it, and it didn't do anything to my volume while on vista, I haven't tried it on xp yet.
