when you open the window, move it to the exact place you want it to open and then hold down ctrl and click the x button, then when you open that window it will open in that spot.

I would make a gui for this, but I am not a programer, so the most I could possibly do is make an ahk script for it, but it probaly wouldn't turn out, so I will just have to use the command promt, unless someone else wants to make a gui (hint, hint)

I don't pay for software because I can't afford it, and I would have to get a job, but to get a job I would have to get a car, but to get a car I would have to get a job...so I can't get a job.

On the settings of my secondary 17" there is a spot where you can change the red green and blue values, so I could make the entire thing green if I wanted to, I don't think my 19" does that tho, but nvidia has that color settings, so that works.

My Gateway (actually re-badged Samsung) Centrino notebook dims the screen to 25% when the AC cord is removed and restores it to 100% when AC is reconnected. However, I don't know how this is accomplished, as there is nothing in my Power options under the Control Panel to control it. At any rate, this is a very effective notifier and I quite miss it when I play around on my wife's Compaq, non-Centrino, notebook.
My brother's compaq does that also, though kruskal's idea would be good for all the computers that don't do that.

Actually, how do you uninstall U3 ?  I have a Verbatim 4GB U3 key and don't see how I could manage this, expecially how to remove the second "un-useful" drive letter) ?  Thanks.
There is a program on the internet to remove it, I don't know where it is because I don't have a u3 drive.

Living Room / 7zip + jpg file = pretty compressed file
« on: May 20, 2007, 02:57 AM »
Do you like to compress files?
Do you like to hide important files from people?
Do you hate having a boring old plain compressed file?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this is the tutorial for you!
Ok, now that I am done acting like an infomercial, I will now show you how to turn a picture into an archive.
By archive I mean zip, rar, tar, 7z, and so on.
I haven't tried this on anything other that a jpg file, but I am almost possitive this would work with any picture, or any other file for that matter, like an mp3 maybe.
Anyways here goes.

1. Find a cool picture that you want to use as your new archive, and get 7zip (note that any other compression program that will let you right click on any file type and think that it is a suported archive, its kinda funny that 7zip does that)
2. compress any files that you want to, or just get an already compressed file, it doesn't matter what the extention is, or you can just get rid of the extention.
3. open the command prompt (start -> run -> cmd)
4. navigate to where your picture and archive file is (navigate in the command prompt)
5.type COPY /b picture name + archive name new picture name

You will then have a jpg file that when you right click on it with 7zip installed, you will be able to extract it.
this picture will be perfectly viewable, so you won't have to wory about people knowing that it is really a picture that has a bunch of porn in it.

~note for step 5~
picture name=the name of the picture you found
archive name=the name of the archive you made
new picture name=the name you will give to your new "picture archive"

~example~
your picture name is bunny.jpg
your archive name is files.zip
you would type in COPY /b bunny.jpg + files.zip bunny archive.jpg
that would turn my picture of a bunny into a zip file that contains what ever is in my files.zip archive named bunny archive.jpg

Have fun making pretty archives.
Update: I learned that you can also use exe files, like for instance if you have a program that is a single exe then you can put the program on your flash drive, and then archive config files for it inside of it.
You can also use txt files and html files, but I wouldn't because it adds a bunch of letters and numbers to the files, and so you basicaly loose the information that was in the txt/html file.

That is extremly funny, I love the last frame, it'll drain your bank account, so just don't mess with it. lol

Make fake bugs? open my computer, and change the name to Notepad, and then show your friend and say something like "look, my computer got hacked, and now when I open notepad my computer is inside of it!" that is one idea.

ietab is an extention that all you do is click an icon in the bottom right and the page will reload, and the tab will now be IE. once you close the tab or push the icon again, ie is gone and FF is back

edit: ietab doesn't add any toolbars or interface changes to ff, just a tiny icon in the bottom right.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Soda can / bottle cooler
« on: May 16, 2007, 01:11 PM »
Another neat and related trick is a quick way to cool a bottle of wine. Wrap it in newspaper and soak the newspaper with water. Put the bottle on the outside of your car windshield in the wiper gutter and drive about 2 miles. The water evaporating from the newspaper will pull heat from the bottle and chill it very quickly.

Notice that you should grab do this to several bottles of wine at once, since you shouldn't repeat the trick after you've drunk the first bottle :]

lol, yeah, that is something to do in large amounts, we don't want to go drunk driving.

Sounds like great stuff, man! But you know, it is so easy?! People might get tired! Being all enthousiastic like that, wow! ;)
But I guess it's still refreshing in the programming language world, better then reading long dry volumes of reference manuals.
;)
Its a good introduction to programing if you have never done it before I guess.

The design is cool! Now the only thing you need to be a true hacker is a "clickety clack" keyboard ;)
I need to master this HH stuff, and then get a keyboard that each time you push a button it would say Hackety Hack, that would be a sweet key board.

General Software Discussion / Re: Autoplay Repair
« on: May 14, 2007, 12:46 PM »
That is so cool, my computer doesn't like autorun, so it disabled it. I think I might just cra...I have to go change my pants now.

I would disable AutoPlay asap. Virus from thumbdrives, portable harddisks, etc are able to spread when autoplay is enabled.
hold down the shift key while plugging in the device, that will disable autorun for that time.

623
that is freaking sweet! If you could compact a computer that small, and have it function perfectly, then that would be cool.

624
I have to go home and try this now, but I can't, I still have two more periods at school to go, but this will be the first thing I do when I get home, this program looks awsome...Hey this is a good way to put pictures on a site that don't allow you to put pictures.

625
crossloop is good for computer to computer use, sharedview is good for a large group, such as a website development group, to work on a webpage in a single program, or things like that. Sharedview does sound pretty good though, I'll have to try it out when I get home.
