Living Room / In need of video hosting
« on: July 30, 2007, 11:54 PM »
I have been looking for a video hosting service similar to youtube.

The hosting service needs the following:
1.I would like to be able to upload any size video.
2.I would like to be able to upload as many videos as I want.
3.I would like to have the ability for people to download the video in its original format.
4.I would like the only way to be able to watch the video is by going to where ever I have it embedded(a video page on my site for example), or by downloading it.

I haven't ran across any video hosting sites that do this, so if anyone knows of a video hosting site that lets me do that, please let me know, thanks.

edit:ok, so I did some research, and found out how to download google videos in avi format, so I think I am going to use google video.

I am looking for a program that I could select several video sources (webcam, portion of my desktop, video clips, etc.) and I could combine those sources into one. For example, I could put my webcam as one source, and then put a video in a small window on top of that (like picture in picture on a tv), or I could fade from one source to another. One example of this is medialooks video mixer, but I am not paying $500 for this, so I was wondering if someone could show me an alternative that is hopefully freeware, or not as expensive.
I would like to be able to select this program as an input in another program (eg. use it as my webcam source in msn), or record to an avi video.

General Software Discussion / Windows firefox edition... I guess
« on: July 16, 2007, 10:00 PM »
I guess that is sort of what this program is like, anyways here goes. Ever heard of WinTabber? if not, it is a program that with it, you open a program, and then you can move it to wintabber, and the program will be removed from the task bar, and a new tab will be added to wintabber, much like firefox. let me post the link and a screenshot or two so you can understand what I am talking about.

WinTabber

notice how in the screenshot there is three servers running and a command promt running all in the same program.
(note~if you can't see the screenshot for some reason, let me know, and I will upload it to an image hosting site, I was just to lazy to do that right now)

ZoneLabs, the makers of ZoneAlarm firewall, makes the worst programs EVER! They are worst than viruses! All the viruses I have ever had only make 1 to a couple of programs stop working, where as ZoneLabs' crap makes EVERYTHING stop working. I installed their firewall on my computer a long time ago, it crashed my computer, I had to put my hard drive in a different computer, and remove the firewall, and just today I installed their internet security suite, because I had forgot that I had already tried their firewall, and then when it told me to restart my computer and got back to windows, the piece of crap blocked everything on my computer from running, so I had to restart into safe mode and uninstall it. When I say it blocked everything, I mean, when ever I try to open anything, it instantly crashes before it opens. I couldn't even open the task manager. The only thing I could open was my computer. So I will never be using anything ZoneLabs makes ever again. If you have had any problems with their garbage, let me know, I want to see what problems other people are having.

Living Room / windows xp sound broke
« on: June 29, 2007, 01:49 PM »
My computer won't let me change audio recording sources. When ever I select anything, it just unselects it and selects the stereo mix input. I don't want to select just stereo, because I have to turn it down really low, otherwise when I record anything it sounds like crap, but my mic is too quiet going through the stereo input because it is turned down too low. That isn't too confusing is it? Let me make a screen shot and see if that makes more sense.
test.gif
That is what happens when I try to select anything other than the stereo input.

General Software Discussion / Media joiner
« on: June 25, 2007, 07:22 PM »
I guess you would call it that? I am looking for a simple freeware program that will let me take 2 or more avi video files and join them together. I don't want it to change the codecs or anything like that, just merge them together, all the video files are the same resolution, the same frame rate, and have the same audio and video codecs. I have a program right now, but it wants me to choose audio and video codecs that it will convert the files into while merging them together. If anyone could help me out here, that would be great, thanks.

edit:ok, I don't have a program right now, the one I was using made the audio off, the audio would play, and a couple of seconds later the video would play.
edit2: Ok, I found a method that works, I'm using camtasia studio to merge the clips that I converted.

Post New Requests Here / IDEA:start program in low priority
« on: June 20, 2007, 10:28 AM »
Ok, this should be an easy build, all you need to code it is autohotkey, but I am not good with autohotkey, so I need someone else to code it for me. Please and thank you.

I am trying to make a script that will make desktop shortcuts with custom settings.
I want an autohotkey script that when you open it, a dialog window will pop up and you type in what you want the window title to be.
then, another dialog box will pop up, and you type in the location to the program.
The script would then make a shortcut on the desktop that would look like this:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start "text from window title dialog box" /low "text from program location dialog box"

so an example output would be:
~Window title Dialog Box~
Input:Adobe Photoshop

~Program location Dialog Box~
Input:C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 6.0\Photoshp.exe

then a shortcut would be put on the desktop, and in the target box, the following would be added:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start "Adobe Photoshop" /low "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop 6.0\Photoshp.exe"

I don't need this part, but if you want to, you can add a third box where you can add commands like -window

Living Room / allergic to computer monitor
« on: May 26, 2007, 01:29 PM »
So about 2 days ago I was using my computer which has two crt monitors, and after a while my hands started to itch, and prety soon little bumps that look like bug bites showed up, and then my hands started to hurt. I then did some research, and found out that the monitors contain Triphenyl phosphate, which is a chemical that is saposed to help keep monitors from catching on fire, and it has been know to cause allergic reactions, so I was wondering if anyone knows if lcd computer monitors contain this chemical? If they don't that would be cool, and maybe I could some how get enough money to buy me one, and then maybe I could use my computer with out having my hands iritating me. I couldn't find any information on the internet about if lcds have this, so if anyone knows, could you please let me know, thanks.

Living Room / 7zip + jpg file = pretty compressed file
« on: May 20, 2007, 02:57 AM »
Do you like to compress files?
Do you like to hide important files from people?
Do you hate having a boring old plain compressed file?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this is the tutorial for you!
Ok, now that I am done acting like an infomercial, I will now show you how to turn a picture into an archive.
By archive I mean zip, rar, tar, 7z, and so on.
I haven't tried this on anything other that a jpg file, but I am almost possitive this would work with any picture, or any other file for that matter, like an mp3 maybe.
Anyways here goes.

1. Find a cool picture that you want to use as your new archive, and get 7zip (note that any other compression program that will let you right click on any file type and think that it is a suported archive, its kinda funny that 7zip does that)
2. compress any files that you want to, or just get an already compressed file, it doesn't matter what the extention is, or you can just get rid of the extention.
3. open the command prompt (start -> run -> cmd)
4. navigate to where your picture and archive file is (navigate in the command prompt)
5.type COPY /b picture name + archive name new picture name

You will then have a jpg file that when you right click on it with 7zip installed, you will be able to extract it.
this picture will be perfectly viewable, so you won't have to wory about people knowing that it is really a picture that has a bunch of porn in it.

~note for step 5~
picture name=the name of the picture you found
archive name=the name of the archive you made
new picture name=the name you will give to your new "picture archive"

~example~
your picture name is bunny.jpg
your archive name is files.zip
you would type in COPY /b bunny.jpg + files.zip bunny archive.jpg
that would turn my picture of a bunny into a zip file that contains what ever is in my files.zip archive named bunny archive.jpg

Have fun making pretty archives.
Update: I learned that you can also use exe files, like for instance if you have a program that is a single exe then you can put the program on your flash drive, and then archive config files for it inside of it.
You can also use txt files and html files, but I wouldn't because it adds a bunch of letters and numbers to the files, and so you basicaly loose the information that was in the txt/html file.

General Software Discussion / run the same program twice
« on: May 03, 2007, 11:12 PM »
I was wondering if anyone knew of a program, or a way to run the same program twice? I would prefer not having to use a virtual machine, as I don't want to do that. I would like to be able to do this, please and thank you.

what I meen by this is, lets say calculator only lets me open one instance of it (does it do that?)
well, I want to do two calculations at once, so I would some how force calculator to open a second time, now I can calculate stuff twice as fast, because I have to copies of calculator running.

Living Room / Change your system's AM and PM
« on: April 08, 2007, 03:28 PM »
That is a very bad subject, but owell, if you can come up with something better, let me know.
Anyways on with what I found out.
I found this really cool tweek for windows, I don't know what all it works with, but I am using xp pro SP2.
you can change the boring AM and PM on your clock in the system tray to what ever you want, but it has to be 5 characters or less, because anything after that wont show up.
customPM.JPG
here is a screenshot of what my pm timestamp is. I was testing to see how many characters I could use, for that I typed <(O_O)> and <(O_O is all that shows. if you want to do this, then...

'Author:    Frankie Miklos © 2003 PuPpYpc.com

Dim ws, key, am, pm

    Set ws = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

    key = "HKCU\Control Panel\International\"

am = InputBox("Type in the new AM time stamp:", "Change AM Time Stamp", "AM")

    If am <> "" Then
        ws.RegWrite key & "s1159", am
MsgBox "The AM time stamp has been successfully changed to " & am & "!" & vbNewLine & "Double-click the time in the system tray and click OK", vbInformation, "Success"
    End If

pm = InputBox("Type in the new PM time stamp:", "Change PM Time Stamp", "PM")

    If pm <> "" Then
        ws.RegWrite key & "s2359", pm
MsgBox "The PM time stamp has been successfully changed to " & pm & "!" & vbNewLine & "Double-click the time in the system tray and click OK", vbInformation, "Success"
    End If
put that code into a new file and save it as whatever.vbs and then you too can change your AM and PM timestamps
edit:I forgot to mention, after you change the timestamps, double click on the clock, and then close the time settings dialog that opens.

General Software Discussion / Virtual registry
« on: April 03, 2007, 06:33 PM »
Hello, I would like to ask if anyone know of a program, or has made a program to do this:
I would really like a program that would turn itself into your registry. Meaning whenever you install something this program would keep the install from saving anything to the registry. I would then like it to save the registry settings for that new program to a folder, and then you would just double click on a shortcut on your desktop this this program made for any icons the installed program was supposed to make. That way when ever you ran the program from the special icon(or from a list in the program I guess) all registry and file changes would be saved to a folder. Let me make some screen shots and see if I can make this more clear.

ok I made a lot of screenshots, so I built a simple page on my site, so to view them, go screenshots removed from my website

I would really like it if someone could come up with a program that would do this, I mentioned in a different thread that I used altris virtualization solution, well that halfway works, but not exactly how I want it to. It saves all the registry files and what not in some special place I don't know about. Plus it also uses the registry, I don't know about you, but I want a virtualization program that doesn't use the registry.
Please and thank you in advance.

Living Room / Why maple story sucks
« on: March 20, 2007, 07:24 PM »
Why maple story sucks.

I am using a Logitech cordless internet pro keyboard/mouse combo, and it runs 100% perfectly on everything I have used so far, but when I try to play maple story, I can't push anything on the keyboard accept the letters, or the secure connect dialog pops up.

By secure connect dialog, I mean that thing that when you install the drivers for the keyboard it pops up and says it wants you to securely connect your wireless connection to your keyboard, and you can't type anywhere accept for in that dialog.

Does any one know why maple story does that, and any way to fix it?
No I will not switch back to a wired keyboard just to play maple story when the keyboard works perfectly on everything else, so please help me out with a different solution, thanks.

Living Room / Yaplet chat on any page
« on: March 15, 2007, 08:55 PM »
so awhile ago I was looking for new add-ons for firefox, and I ran across this really good one that lets you incorporate chat into any website you goto. all you do is goto any page on a website (example donationcoder.com/forum/index.php) and then hit alt + y, and then leave the text box that pops up blank and hit ok, and then you can chat with other people on that page using the add-on. I figured donation coder could use it, because I can't use the irc chat, it won't goto the channel, so with this, all you do is goto the forums main page, and load the chat.

General Software Discussion / Desktop chaos please help
« on: March 04, 2007, 01:57 AM »
desktop.JPG
As you can see with the attached picture, I have a lot of desktop icons. I was hoping that someone had a program that would let me organize my icons between my two monitors. (better than the windows arrange icons by menu you get when you right click on the desktop, when align to grid is on I can't put icons on my second monitor) If someone could help me out here, I would really like that.

p.s. Yeah, its a bad quality image, I shrunk it in paint, to lazy to wait for photoshop to load, the small little program that you see in the bottom middle is at the bottom left of my second monitor.

General Software Discussion / limiting memory
« on: February 27, 2007, 10:27 PM »
I was wondering if some one knew of a program that would limit the amount of memory and virtual memory a program is allowed to use? I have a program that I run, and it can get up to like almost a gig of virtual memory, and like 7 or 8 hundred mb of regular memory, and I wanted to limit this, that way maybe I can use my computer more better. Please and thank you.

Skrommel's Software / Run
« on: February 23, 2007, 04:25 PM »
I was just looking at your program called run, the one that opens the run dialog box. If you hold down the right mouse button on the run button in the start menu, and then drag it to the desktop, or the quick launch thing(the one on the start bar), then it will let you put a shortcut to the run dialog, I don't know if this only works with windows xp or not. Just drag it to your quick launch, and then you got a quick run dialog. Works with the search button too.

Skrommel's Software / Noise
« on: February 23, 2007, 04:20 PM »
What exactly does noise do? I downloaded it, and then typed in a letter into the box, and then I walked away, and then came back to my computer a while later, and nothing was opened, and nothing looked different on my computer, and my screen saver was on. I don't understand what this program does.

General Software Discussion / virtual install
« on: February 18, 2007, 10:07 PM »
Hello, I was looking for a program that would allow me to install a program inside of it, and then the program would store all the registry files, and application files inside of it. A program that I did find was Altiris(R) Software Virtualization Solution(TM) 2.0, but it wont install on my computer for some reason, so I was wondering if some one could tell me another program that would do that. Here is the information of  the program I found.

Living Room / installing mods on smf forums
« on: January 24, 2007, 04:57 PM »
I was wondering if there is a way to install mods on smf forums with safe mode turned on? I would have to submit a proof of id to have it turned off (for security reasons). I do not want to do that, so I was wondering if anyone had a way to install mods on smf forums without having to turn off safe mode? Please help, I want to make my forums cooler.

Skrommel's Software / Idea for cutaway
« on: September 04, 2006, 09:25 PM »
It would be realy cool if you could have a version of cutAway that would have an icon in the task bar, and you just like double click on it, and then drag over the area you want to cut away. the current setup id confusing, I dont like the way that it cuts away everything wen u click it, and you have to drag over the parts you want to stay.

Post New Requests Here / Done: Batch mp3 bitrate converter
« on: August 19, 2006, 01:33 AM »
So the other day, I was wanting to convert a bunch of mp3's bitrates, but being that I have a bunch of them, it would take me way to long to convert them one by one, so I was wondering if any one knew of a program, or could make one, that would convert multiple mp3 bitrates. I had a program that would do it, but it wouldn't keep the id tags, and I dont want to go back and change over 100 id tags.
