I'm not aware of any contemporary architectures that have a loadable microcode, though.

Intel processors certainly do.  For example, here's a KB article from Microsoft describing an update that contains microcode to fix a Spectre vulnerability: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4090007/intel-microcode-updates
