Been using Mint-MATE since version12. Made a clean install when 13 came out and was running that until 17 came ou. I have quite a few computers and dual-boot all of them with Linux17-MATE, and Win 7. I only get into Win 7 a few times a year, as I've decided that for over 95% of my computing, Mint is great.

I've used several of those mentioned here, but finally settled on DoubleCommander. I particularly like that it lets me change the attributes of files and folders. .

I thought I would write this up to maybe help those who are tired of Windoz. I've used Windoz since 1998 and have a small computer repair business, so I am fairly savvy in Windoz. After toying very slightly with various versions of Linux over a few years, about 9 months ago I downloaded the "live CD" of Linux Mint 13-MATE.By booting with the "live CD" you run it from RAM, so nothing affects your regular install(of Windoz). I liked it so much that I've installed it and running(on 3 of my computers) it, dual booting with Win7. I'm using Linux probably 99% of the time, and really prefer it to Windoz. To further inform you-Linux is completely free, as are over 31,000 programs for it. Another thing I particularly like, using the dual boot is that I can go in Windoz partitions using Linux.You don't even need to run an anti-virus program.
Try it, you'll like it!

Just to put in my two cents worth. I have a small computer repair business and consider myself as pretty well qualified in Windows. Toyed very slightly with various Linux distros over past 10 years and didn't care for any. However, about 5 months ago, I d/l and played with a Live cd of Linux13-MATE. I liked it so much that I am now dual booting it on all my machines, and tend to use it 95% of the time. IMHO it has Windows all beat. Incidentally, I turned 78 today. I highly recommend Linux Mint, any version.

In fact, as I'm using Linux Mint more and more, have done the same there.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm familiar with Launchy, but preferred SlickRun over that. Might have a go at it as I'm tending to use Linux Mint12 more and more.

Thanks for the info. I had already downloaded, but not installed, awhile back Softmaker Office2008. I've just finished downloading the portable version of LibreOffice. I'll wait on that too, as LibreOffice came along with my installalling Linux Mint12 on another machine, and I'd like to check it out there. As an aside, I've been using WinOffice2007 since it came out, but only use Word and Excel.

I've tried several different ones, and they were pretty sad. Am running XP Pro/SP3, 2GB RAM. Thank y'all very much.

Thanks for your input. I just downloaded the apps linked to by PhilB66. When next the printer stalls I will try them out and report back here as to whether they worked for me. Again, I thank all for the assistance.

I don't know if it will solve the problem-when next it happens. I cleared the problem by going into registry. BTW-I've tried that app sent by nogojoe in the past, and it did NOT work. Here's hoping it was updated, and will work when needed.

Thanks for the quick reply Am using XP Pro/SP3, 2GB RAM. This happens at times using various apps, and various printers. It occurs when I click on "Print" or on File/Print. BTW- It occurs on both, laser printer and inkjet printer. I do know the registry work around(to delete the spooled docs), but would like a quicker solution. Again, thank you.

When printer seems to "lock-up", it doesn't let you cancel all(or any) documents, would like an app or batch file to clear it quickly. (The batch file presently available at: http://lifehacker.co...ithout-waiting-years  is not working.) Thank you so much.

When I delete an app, I also go to appsdata and remove it, plus check the registry. I left the plugs in directory as I figured to save time upon next installation of FARR. Again, thank you.

I had installed, and run FARR several months ago, but for some reason, uninstalled it. I've tried to reinstall a fresh download several times now, but when I click on icon to run, I get pop-up "MS Visual C++ Runtime Library, Runtime error, and it closes. Running XP Pro, 2GB RAM. Please assist. Thank you
