how are you configuring apps to run after idle time?

36402
well it could be done with a global keyboard and mouse hook - but it might not be worth the price in cpu cycles it would eat.

36403
ah yes, i see now completely - that makes a lot of sense now.

of course you're original idea about detecting mouse click or keyboard click to change focus would be ideal situation, just have to figure out best way to do it.

36404
maybe ill make 1.05.16 the default public download, that makes sense.

so currently you use the right click menu to launch the first app?
i was just suggesting an additional (menu would still be available) way to launch an app and leave F&R open, by holding control key down when launching (not implemented yet).

36405
the new hotkey options only work when the program is used in the main tray version (not low memory helper).
i should have made that clearer.

the new focus options aren't perfect, but i think they are an improvement; i will try to figure out a perfect solution soon.
right now the last option basically works based on elapsed time.  so for 4 seconds after you launch a program from F&R it will regrab focus; but any other time you switch away it lets you.

kfitting, do you often find yourself launching apps from F&R and leaving F&R open on the screen.. is that how you use it?
if so, what do you think about having F&R check for control key when launching app from # key or double click, and leaving F&R open if so. seems better than using the right-click menu.

superslapper comes with some example insults and compliments but i'd love to add more.
if you add some, please send them to me ([email protected]) so i can add them to the official release.

36409
james, don't forget to send me that config file if you get a chance.

36410
hi lanux,
you can do Ctrl+C followed by Ctrl+V to create a copy of any file, which will create "Copy of ..."

ps. DonationCoder.com is going to come out soon with a new context menu extension with tons of features, and one of the features will be very flexible rightclick on file/folder and create backup copies with various options.

here's what i'm going to try to do when i get a little bit of time,
i'm going to make all the installers zip-compatible, so that you can double click them to run and install,
OR unpack files manually and do what you want with them.

just give me a little bit of time to get it working.  I already do it for mircryption, which is a security program and so people don't always like running an installer, so I know how to do it, just requires some work.

Best Firewall / Re: Sygate - Very Strong Firewall
« on: July 24, 2005, 08:13 PM »
i consistently hear good things about sygate, and it's definitely good product, and has some very nice displays of activity if i remember correctly.
when we started reviewing we didn't spend as much time on competitor products as we do now, otherwise we surely would have talked about sygate.

i can't remember exactly where i felt sygate fell short - if i remember correctly it was the ease in customizing rules at the time of the alert.  when i get an inbound or outbound alert i want to be able to say "configure" this rule and then be able to customize ports, direction, ips, etc. from the next screen, and i think at the time sygate wasn't good at letting me do that; im not 100% sure though, and/or it may have been improved by now.

comparison of free vs. pro features and more info: http://smb.sygate.co...spf/summary_pspf.htm
(looks to me like the personal is too crippled to be useful so you'll have to go with pro version if you want this)

don't deny yourself, mirc all the way.

36418
personally i've stopped worrying about a few mb of memory usage of an app -
just like i stopped worrying about disk usage of apps.
why have a good machine with lots of memory if not to take advantage of it.

that said, if hoekey works for ya..

It looks to me like PsPad word wrap works, works well, and might even have some useful tricks up its sleeve -
like a couple of different ways to show you the dif. between linebreaks caused by wordwraps or hard CRs.

i'd like some more feedback and then im going to update our text review to highly recommend PsPad again, if others confirm that wordwrap works well.

General Software Discussion / Drag and Drop Robot Movie
« on: July 23, 2005, 09:14 PM »
Here's a plug for one of our own DonationCoder.com programs that no one uses, Drag and Drop Robot (https://www.donation.../dragdrop/index.html).

Now I admit that it's only a tool useful for a small group of power users, but i think even people who have a use for it might not realize they do.

So this is just a reminder that there is a movie demonstrating the use of Drag and Drop Robot here, in case you are not sure if it's something you have use for:

oh nice.  for those of us not subscribed to the plus letter, what does it say about us?

36423
just to clarify - this was from newsletter of 6/27 and i believe was the only time dc(c) has been mentioned in langa's newlsetter.

but hey, always nice to relive the good days, and hopefully he'll notice our other apps eventually :)

one main thing to remember about irc is to learn to appreciate idleing.
sometimes one just connects to a channel, says hello and idles.
ie you just hang out in the background not talking, just listening.  it's one of the nice things about irc.
