General Software Discussion / Help authoring
« on: September 24, 2005, 09:05 AM »
For those who have to write help files, my suggestion is to have a look at Help & Manual.
Web site: http://www.helpandmanual.com/

Very complete. Very active web support.
At the same time you can produce many output format (.chm, .html, .hlp, .doc, .pdf, ...) starting from the same help file.

Not cheap but worth all the money. I use it everyday.

Cheers

General Software Discussion / Personal suggestion: CodeCharge
« on: September 24, 2005, 07:23 AM »
I would like to suggest a product I consider really fantastic for web site development: CodeCharge from YesSoftware.
Web link: http://www.yessoftwa...ail.php?product_id=1

Not easy at first but if you work on dynamic web sites both for intranet or extranet you will have big advantages for its ability to work on databases.
Many, many features. Some:
  • ability to keep separated user interface development from data integration and handling.
  • automatic generation of code in many different web languages: asp, php, .net, jsp, ... other
  • RAD visual development
  • many different DBMS support

To be clear, I'm not in any case affiliated. More, I criticize them in the past but so far I didn't find any other good product compared with CodeCharge.

Hi all.

Site

Well the site is not my creation but I've done a quite big job on web templating and site organization/design.

I'm using the following:

You will be able to find in PostNuke site all the information about this really good CMS.

thinBasic
thinBasic will be free.
We have introduced an expire date because we are at the very beginning of the project.
There will be numerous updates and we do not like to have around old thinBasic version maybe with bugs or missed functionalities.
So, for the period thinBasic will remain in beta stage we will always leave an expiry date.

There will be a commercial part of thinBasic but now it is premature. Mainly this will be around embedding thinBasic in 3rd party application as application script engine.
Also we will release in one of the next version an SDK interface that will allow development of personalized thinBasic modules. Modules are one of the core part of thinBasic. The idea is more or less the same as php modules/extensions.
Latest version have fixed some bugs but mainly we have improved execution speed and general runtime performance by a factor of 2 compared with previous version.

Hope someone will have some spare time to download thinBasic giving a try and reporting impressions, comments, or bugs found.

Thanks a lot
Eros

General Software Discussion / Re: Macro programs - advice sought...
« on: September 20, 2005, 09:16 AM »
Thanks.

We are just at the beginning. thinBasic is evolving continuosly every week.
Our effort is to keep the language very close to BASIC like syntax but at the same time adding many functionalities with "module" functionality.
Modules are special dlls loaded dynamically and automatically (if needed) at runtime by the script engine.
We will release very soon SDK interface in order to be able to develop personalized 3rd party thinBasic modules.

Hope this project will be of interest for other people who likes scripting.

Regards
