I'm now running Everything version 1.21.452a. Don't ask where that info/announcement is on the voidtools site. I've no idea --never could find it.

I took the 1.21.451 download link provided here and substituted .452 in place of .451. Voila! The newest version exists. Why do we have to treasure hunt for the latest version of this fine software? :tellme:

Hi mouser. Yeah, acolburn has a good idea! I also have left my flash drive at home plugged to the PC..uh...a few times. :-[

Among the choices are...

Flash Drive Reminder:

FlashRecall:

...One small concern: Zentimo might have caused a small bit of instability on my Vista desktop -- a major crash a couple of hours after installation, but it hasn't recurred so it might have been a coincidence...

Unfortunately I had a similar experience with Zentimo on a XP system several months ago. I had no stability issues before installing Zentimo, and I've had none since deciding to uninstall. After several crashes with Zentimo I had seen enough to uninstall. But I will probably try it again in the future. :-\

I have also found Text Filter to be a useful little tool, but currently updating the app is an exercise in futility.

And it would be interesting to hear from musetips regarding the development of this software.

56
JavaJones, I am happy to join the chorus of positive comments.

Very nice comprehensive review.

Thanks PhilB66 for the info and link to Text Filter's portable version. :)

I always grabbed the portable build so I didn't know about the installer issues. Previously the portable build was located on the main page, but at least it's still available.

General Software Discussion / Re: Undelete utilities?
« on: March 28, 2011, 07:14 PM »
Undelete 360 is another freeware with a portable version. Looks like it can both recover and securely wipe files.

However, it seems Recuva is currently outperforming Undelete 360 on my system. Recuva displayed and recovered files which Undelete 360 marked as corrupt. And I didn't even have to use Recuva's deep scan.

Still, I suppose Undelete 360 is likely to improve.

So I go to musetips site today to update my version of Text Filter to the latest 1.1.0.683...

First, I notice there's no longer a portable version so I decided to grab the setup file this time.

Then I see where the setup offers the "Facemoods Toolbar Software" for sharing my mood.  Well, at least you can cancel the facemoods crapola option (with accompanying browser toolbar, registry entries, and its own service facemoodssrv.exe) without incident.

I didn't install Facemoods, but I bet you can still guess my mood--annoyed.

Coding Snacks / Re: Quick Simple MP3 Player
« on: March 28, 2011, 01:32 PM »
Hi,

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I think the tiny MP3 player named M3 deserves a mention here.

M3 is approximately 100 kb and can be found in l.madhavan's software archive along with other minimalist/smallware apps.

Another alternative is the freeware MF Shutdown Manager.

...Now I have come to realize that several are stand-alone programs, so of course I started testing right away....

Yes, several nice little apps there. I've used DesktopOK for some time.

63
Bywifi Video Downloader claims support for Justin.tv.

Never used it myself so I don't know if it identifies a stream address or just downloads the media. Either way, Bywifi looks to be a viable alternative based on the generally favorable comments I've seen.

64
Sorry, no first had experience with Bufferzone here.

I've often thought about checking it out but never seem to get around to it. I suppose I've been content with Sandboxie for so long I don't want to "rock the boat". Pretty hard to beat Sandboxie's protection IMO.

Ah, the innovative 1:1 file copy in version 6. ;)

Just kidding, the program looks good. Lots of features including versioning.

Curt, thanks for telling.

Ah, interesting to see PortableApps has released a version of Iron Portable.

Thanks guys for the find and review. Nemo Documents looks  unique and innovative-- at least I've not seen anything else quite like it.

Those interested can see the freewaregenius review here. There it indicates .NET 3.5 SP1 or later is required.

Contro, some interesting freeware such as STDU Viewer and STDU Explorer can be found here:

http://www.stdutility.com/index.html

Interesting indeed, but don't cover dwg and doc. Or I think so.

Unfortunately true. But when reading multiple PDFs, I like STDU Viewer for its "Show thumbnails" which allows me to see all the selected files on one page.

Ah, how nice to be able to put a name to the face. I've seen her image on countless sites and always wondered about her.

You never know what you will learn around here.

Nice to see a "boot time" option appearing in more of the free defraggers.

Lots of decent choices nowadays. Still content with Puran Defrag here.

General Software Discussion / Re: Your most used SPECIAL programs

Ha! I know what you mean about overload--when they say "a huge amount of info" they mean just that.

Sorry, I checked and don't see how to exclude certain info such as the Huffman table data.

When I first started using JPEGsnoop, I was a bit overwhelmed as I parsed through all that info. Really more than I want to know, to be honest. At this point, I scroll to the bottom where quality %, chroma subsampling, and editing assessment are given.

74
OIC. Now & forever, huh?  You've thrown in the towel? Called it a day? Waived the white flag?  ;)

Well, I'm sure you will find a worthy replacement. Or at least use an older version without the current installation issues.

Suppose you have a JPEG and are curious about its specs. Common questions could be...how much compression was used? was chroma subsampling used and how much? has the image been edited?

JPEGsnoop is a JPEG file decoding utility which can answer these types of questions.
http://www.impulsead...hoto/jpeg-snoop.html :
JPEGsnoop reports a huge amount of information, including: quantization table matrix (chrominance and luminance), chroma subsampling, estimates JPEG Quality setting, JPEG resolution settings, Huffman tables, EXIF metadata, Makernotes, RGB histograms, etc. Most of the JPEG JFIF markers are reported. In addition, you can enable a full huffman VLC decode, which will help those who are learning about JPEG compression and those who are writing a JPEG decoder.

Neat little utility--seems "special" enough to me. And lots of interesting information on that ImpulseAdventure site.

NOTE: The site says its portable, but apparently they mean portable in the limited no-install sense (ie. JPEGsnoop writes to both registry and user data).
