I re-tested ACEHtml and it has several problems:

one cannot see the preview pane at the same time as the coding pane,

and worse, even when you decline to accept it taking over your home page and installing extra software (MyStart Toolbar), it still repeatedly tries to install the toolbar for hours, and when you uninstall ACEHtml, the MyStart Toolbar remains in the system.

 Bad software.  >:(

I explored Nvu and it does not have any ability to show code and preview at the same time.

I am exploring the 2007 Sharepoint Designer, which does indeed seem powerful but unfortunately only has the preview below the code not side-by-side which I would find ideal. Still, I'm going to look at it more.

53
David.P Thank you very much! I found it.

Now for more testing!

:-)

54
Dear David.P,

I just installed the 2007 Sharepoint Designer to evaluate it again, but it didn't create an icon on my desktop.

Can you tell me where to find the .exe so I can run it?

thanks

Hank

To David.P:

I had evaluated Alleycode during my first swing years ago, and must have left it out.

I re-evaluated it just now and still don't find it worthwhile because:

1. It only offers a horizontal (and on top!) preview -- I wanted a side-by-side preview pane.

2. I am a big fan of macros, snippets, etc. and Alleycode doesn't offer these. They really speed up my coding, and I really need them.

And yes, I wasn't specifically referring to you with regard to people not reading the whole post before.

The yearly fee for MyEclipse seems a bit much to me, given that you can purchase other programs just once and be done with paying for them. But I will probably examine it too.

Thank you and everyone very much for keeping this thread alive.

I wish those adding comments would look over the whole thread first to see if a program has already been mentioned.  :(

I just tested Webcoder 2010, and corresponded with its very nice author.  :)

Unfortunately, while it has an active preview, one has to hit the F12 key every time one wants a refresh. I have been looking for a program that has an effective auto-refresh.

In answer to the query, what did I think of the Microsoft Sharepoint, the answer is that the preview was well executed, but the HTML editing functions were way too few compared with most solid HTML editors.

Thank you all of your contributions. You have inspired me to keep on looking.

57
I had already evaluated SharePoint Designer and Amaya on earlier pages, and the problem with urlwolf's suggestion, which I tried out, is that you have to save the file to see the changes in FireFox, which is inconvenient at best. :(

And I tried Webcoder 2010 and the preview was not active, or at least when it refreshed it jumped to the top of the page, instead of keeping focus on where one is working. That's not useful. :(

Am I missing something?

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Another tool....
« on: March 08, 2012, 12:59 PM »
That's a great question.. there currently isn't a way to do this, but it's a great idea for a feature to add.
I will make it so you can click on any group node and say to delete all notes in that group (including child groups).

ps.
I'm going to split off this thread into it's own thread since it probably doesn't belong as part of the "Another tool" thread..

I want to add my vote for a quick means to clear all current clipboard content.

Thanks for a great tool!

I haven't been at all happy with The Sage or WordWeb myself. I'm a bit of a thesaurus aficionado. And the Roget's online seems very limited.

I always go to  http://thesaurus.com/ for a truly excellent online thesaurus, myself.

If anyone can find a really excellent software thesaurus, I'd certainly like to know (word compatibility or not).

I have used the WPrinter utility for years and love it.

The download link is:

http://www.usysware.com/downloads.aspx

and the WPrinter home page is:

http://www.usysware....Printer/Default.aspx

there are free and pro versions, and the utility lets me switch between multiple versions of the same printer (draft, regular, and high-quality) with a simple, configurable hot-key

Timns Apps / Re: Auspex
« on: May 14, 2011, 11:16 AM »
I would like to add myself to the list of those who would like an easy way to import ones own corrections and abbreviation lists into Auspex.

e.g. using a delimiter to separate the two:

so I want the phrase   uset he  to be fixed to use the  and the word   ast to become astronomy

in the import list, I would show these as:

uset he/use the
ast/astrology

the reason that a space cannot be the delimiter is obvious from the above example.

Also, am I the only one who wants the option for Auspex to NOT show a pop up window of choices?  If the word is not in my autocorrect list or in Auspex's, then I don't want to be distracted, even for a second, by a pop up window.

thanks!

62
By the way, the Yadabyte Subtext program seemed simple and fine, until I rebooted and it lost all of my newly entered abbreviations and corrections :(

63
I installed Phrase Express but could not figure out how to customize it to autocorrect my spelling errors.

It has built-in correction dictionaries but didn't make it obvious at all how to build one's own.

I uninstalled it right away.

64
I have been using the third party ink cartridges from LDProducts.com for my Canon iP5000 printer for many years, and they work flawlessly and save me about 70% of the cost of a new OEM cartridge.

I wouldn't go back if you paid me    :)

Dear Timns,

Thank you very much for your clear and prompt response.

Yes, I was talking about the completions, and now understand that I have to use Tab or the numeric keypad number to select the right word.

I do suggest that you allow users to also specify a different activation key than Tab, if they'd like.

thanks again for your great response.

I just read this thread over to see if I could find out how to use the autoreplace feature, with no luck.

I'm sorry to be so dense but:

I'm typing a word and Auspex pops up a window with correct words and numbers before them to help enter the word quickly, yes?

But how do I select one of Auspex's suggested words?

thanks for what looks to be a great program

67
I've spent a lot of time examining free and commercial programs (under $100) and so far none will do the job.   :(

68
A search and replace won't do the job, because I have to handle each broken link individually.

That's why it's so important that the functions be integrated.

69
The HTML-kit Tools professional version has a link checker but no plug-in for the free version   :'(

70
I love the XENU freeware link checker but it doesn't have an HTML editor built-in and I have a lot of links to fix on my largest website.

Are there any free or low cost and effective link checkers with HTML editing capabilities? (Or free/low cost non-WYSIWYG HTML Editors that have link checking built in?)

thank you

A couple of issues that I encountered:

1. auto-correct of com with compatibility messed with my entering URLs!

2. on my win 7 64 bit system, Auspex notably slows down shutdown

thanks

General Software Discussion / Re: Fastest Audio Converter

I tested the Factory Audio Converter and the dBpoweramp, and they are both slower than the best one (although Factory Audio Converter was only a little more than twice as slow, and thus comes in second place)

It is amazing how my work flow proceeds better when jobs are done efficiently.

I upgraded my PC recently, and one program that took 14 seconds to load now does so in 2 seconds.

All of the delays add up, and I'm much happier and more focused when I don't have to wait an extra 2 minutes to proceed to the next task.

Another review of NoteBurner said:

. It must be used in conjunction with a media player that can burn CDs because it makes the media player “burn” the song as a file on the hard drive instead of onto a real CD. This is the major drawback in the program: you have to use two separate programs just to convert your music.

so it's not really what I'm looking for

Did you read this paragraph in the Noteburner review?:

NoteBurner audio converter adopts virtual burning technology, so it's required that you must have iTunes, Windows Media Player, Real Player or other kind of media player to co-work with NoteBurner audio converter.
