Hi! I have a DAC connected to my computer that sometimes doesn't wake up after my PC awakens after sleep.

If I go to Control Panel --> Sound and disable and re-enable it, it works again.

I don't want to use AutoHotkey, but if anyone reading this could create a tiny program that enables me to disable and then enable my default sound playback device, that would be really, really great.

Thanks!

Clipboard Help+Spell / Importing from old version
« on: March 25, 2020, 12:18 AM »
I hope that I haven't missed the discussion of this theme before but I just installed the new Alpha and tried to import the database from the previous version of CHS, and it didn't work.

I have a lot of favorites, etc. and at the same time I understand that the database format has changed greatly.

Do you think it's possible to have an import for users of the earlier version?

Thanks!

Clipboard Help+Spell / autocopy function?
« on: November 01, 2018, 05:46 PM »
I love clipboard help and spell. In fact, it's one of my most used and most valued programs.

I use Autocopy 2 in WaterFox to automatically copy to the clipboard any text that I select with the mouse, but that doesn't work anywhere else in Windows.

I would love it if you would add AutoCopy as a general function throughout Windows.

I did try DragKing, but it didn't work in WordPerfect or UltraEdit.

Any chance of adding this functionality?

Thanks again for a truly great piece of software.

I have a lot of articles that I've written that I want to assemble into one or more ebooks.

I can easily format each as a PDF file, but I don't know what software to use to merge them all, in the correct order, and at the same time create a table of contents that updates every time I add a new file.

Can anyone help me?

I've been searching the web for days now for a program that will convert an entire website (with links) into an ebook that will work on a Kindle ebook reader.

Does anyone out there know a program that will do this?

I was able to download a website completely using HTTrack and have it function offline, but when I tried to convert it to an ebook using Calibre, Calibre failed every time, even using the command line web2book and other methods.

I know that there are several programs that will convert one HTML page to mobi format, but I need to convert a whole website.

Help please!

General Software Discussion / Simple donut chart software?
« on: October 22, 2015, 12:16 AM »
Years ago, I owned a very simple to use free Windows program that allowed me to create Donut charts quickly and easily. But that was several computers ago, and I can't find any software that creates these charts easily and is either free or very inexpensive.

Do any of you know such a program?

Thanks.

Hi! I just spent hours trying to find a music player that will both:

1. Play FLAC files

and

2. Has multiple (snaking) columns listing the albums in the music library.

Basically, I want to see all of the artists in a listing, and I have too many to show in one column.

Has anyone seen this feature?

Hi!

I did a scan with Kaspersky and got three errors I just don't understand, or how to fix them myself:

service termination timeout is out of admissable values

and

process response timeout is out of admissable values

and

process termination timeout is out of admissable values

Because I'm using a different anti-virus, I can't install Kaspersky too, to address this issue.

Can anyone out there help me?  (I tried Googling these and got nowhere)

Thanks!

I don't know if any of you have experience removing the new V9 malware from a PC, but one of my closest friends got infected and has run scans from Prevx, Malwarebytes Antimalware, and MSE without success.

Does anyone know how to get this removed?

Please forgive me if this is NOT a topic allowed on this forum.

Donationcoder is a great community, and I just wanted to help him.

p.s. he has an older Windows XP system, and is getting redirects from email links, an IE home page hijack to the V9 website, etc.

I need your wonderful Clipboard Help & Spell to have the ability to be cleared of all stored clips.

(E.g. if I've copied a password and pasted it into a web document.)

Whether there would be a hotkey to press, a menu item, or whatever, it would be a very valuable function for me.

Is it possible and likely to add this feature?

Thank you very much for a great program.

Clipboard Help+Spell / CHS Feature Request: Clear items on request
« on: April 02, 2012, 09:43 PM »
For Clipboard Help and Spell --

Can you have a Clear Contents button or hotkey to clear both current and past
captures?

This would be great for security reasons.

I love the XENU freeware link checker but it doesn't have an HTML editor built-in and I have a lot of links to fix on my largest website.

Are there any free or low cost and effective link checkers with HTML editing capabilities? (Or free/low cost non-WYSIWYG HTML Editors that have link checking built in?)

thank you

General Software Discussion / Fastest Audio Converter
« on: December 01, 2010, 10:18 PM »
I regularly convert WMA audio files to MP3 files, and have tested many free programs including:

the Koyote Soft Free MP3 WMA converter

the open source Freac

NCH Swift Sound converter

Pazera Free Audio extractor

the BeeThink Music Handle

and a few others, and they all took over 3 minutes to convert a 93 MB WMA file recorded at 44199 Hz to a file @ 22,050 Hz   96 kbits per second joint stereo

and then I tested the Free Audio Converter 7.1.5 that I downloaded from http://www.free-audi...audio_converter.html

and it took only one minute! (over three times faster than the best of the other freeware programs!)

It can convert between MP3, OGG, WAV, and WMA files with excellent control over all settings.

I wanted all of you to know of this great program.

Thanks

I have searched high and low for an HTML editor that has a real time preview pane so that I can see the changes I make as I type them in.

Do any of you know such an animal?

(Preferably freeware)

For Windows XP

thanks!

General Software Discussion / Audio DVD software?
« on: April 01, 2010, 07:32 PM »
Hi!

I'm looking for a program that can both take music files on my PC (XP sp3) in FLAC and MP3 formats, as well as directly from CDs, and create music DVDs playable on my DVD player, complete with menus to choose which sets to play.

I found two choices of dedicated programs via Google: “ApolloAudio DVD Creator” and “Audio DVD Creator" and hear that Nero and Roxio have products that will do this too, but am a bit lost about which one is worth getting and whether there is a freeware alternative.

Does anyone out there know about this?

Thank you all.

Post New Requests Here / Get keystroke value
« on: June 08, 2009, 05:40 PM »
First, I'd like to thank everyone at DonationCoder.com and all of its members for the incredible quality and value of this website and its forum members.

I purchased a Kinesis Freestyle keyboard and it has "driverless" special function keys, some of which I'd like to remap.

I found the great utility SharpKeys at: http://www.randyrant...7/sharpkeys_211.html that allows me to change specific keys (so I changed my Caps Lock to an End key) but I don't know how to ascertain the value of some of the keys, and am wondering if anyone out there knows of a utility that displays keystroke values as you press a key, so that I can utilize the remapping of SharpKeys for the other special keys on the keyboard.

thank you very much

Post New Requests Here / "Backdrop" for Windows
« on: June 01, 2009, 04:22 PM »
I was visiting the wonderful website freedownloadaday.com and one of the most recent free programs offered was called Backdrop. Unfortunately it's for the Mac. Here's what it does:

Are you easily distracted? Do you have to turn your email off to keep from taking a look each time a new email from your favorite Nigerian prince comes in? Does your IM app keep you busy all day? If you lose your concentration every time something shiny flashes at you from your screen, maybe it's time to suppress all that extraneous activity on your computer.

If this all sounds like you, Backdrop can help make your life a little easier and more productive. Just fire it up, and it fills your screen, successfully obscuring all the apps running on your system except for the front-most application. Now instead of getting all bogged down with all the excitement happening in the background, you can focus on the task at hand, and actually get some work done.

Another use of Backdrop is for use when taking screenshots. If it usually takes you five minutes to tidy up your desktop to give your screen captures a clean background, all you need to do is invoke Backdrop and you've got instant clean.

Backdrop is a Mac application.

Can anyone easily create a similar app for the PC/Windows?

I'd really appreciate it.

Dealnews just published an interesting comparison of Pricegrabber, Shopping.com, and three other internet price comparison shopping sites.

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Multiple Sorts of Directories
« on: February 23, 2008, 10:25 PM »
Please forgive me if my request is already handled somewhere...  but let me know if it is.

I would love a utility that would allow me to view a detailed list of files (e.g. showing name, extension, date, time, attribute..) and allow me to sort on two of them simultaneously.

E.g. To sort on extension, with a sub-sort showing them in declining dates.

Like this:

     index.htm    02/22/2008
     books.htm   02/20/2008
     article.htm    01/15/2008

does any file manager allow you two types of sorting at once? Could anyone write a simple one?

thanks

When I do a search of my emails in Thunderbird, the program opens a Search Messages window which lists the emails that meet the search criteria.

In order to view any of these emails, I have to click on each one to open it in a separate window.

This is slow and annoying.

Does anyone know of a way to add a preview pane or other preview email method in this window?

I would really, really appreciate it.

thanks

I love using WordPerfect because if I type in "tehn", for example, it automatically corrects it (using its QuickCorrect function) to "then".

One adds words to QuickCorrect, first the misspelled word and then the correct spelling.

You can also add abbreviations of commonly used words that it will then fill in, e.g. if I type "Su" it replaces it with "the Sun".

I would love to see an extension to the Thunderbird email program that offered the same functionality.

Any chance of one of the programmers taking on this project?

Thank you for listening, and for all of the great programs you already offer.

many blessings to you
