Good to know, thanks.
Ah, BTW... m_s if you have some .ZNO files at hand, you may create a new def for TrID with the TrIDScan tool. If you the send me the new def, I will add it to TrID's db giving proper credit & link to an URL of your on the supported file types pages.
Google's bots like to crawl on them! :)

What's the extension for Zinio's files? Is there any free downloadable sample?
I would like to see if it's possible to make a new TrID's definition for that file type.

Thanks,
Bye!

Strange, the link seems to be down for me also.

Speaking of top ten... I'm not sure about what apps I will choose, but surely, it will be starting like this:

1. TotalCommander
2. TotalCommander
3. TotalCommander
4. something other...
...

I just use it so much! :D

BitTorrent is not really a file sharing program, like for example eMule, Kazaa, etc.
It's more a file transfer protocol (like FTP, or even HTML in some sense) that just happens to leverage on a file swarming / P2P tech to delivers files with great efficiency, even with "small pipes".

For example, it enable a small developer to deliver his last ZIP package to a giant audiences even from his small home server.

Since you (the BitTorrent client user) have to click on a .torrent link to begin the download, there's not really much more risks involved than downloading from any others "usual" HTTP/FTP links.

You may want to give a look to the BitTorrent home for a better explanation than mine! :)

P.S.
Sorry, I know my English is terrible. I hope to be understandable! I'm also glad that there's a Spell Check button on this forum! :)

I second that.
Most versatile, feature packed and still easy to use for any BitTorrent things.

Just saw this on the PowerBASIC forum.

Topic: Egrid32 PRO - Second special offer

Egrid32 is a very flexible grid control (as a standard Win32 .DLL) by Elias Montoya.
If you don't know it, I think it's worth a look.
Here's a link: Egrid32 Pro home
The code samples are in PowerBASIC, but it should be not a problem to use them from, say, C/C++. The PowerBASIC syntax to deal with this things is very "Petzold style"! ;)

Do you have access to your raw logs files from the server?
Unfortunately no.

I have been playing with it a bit, and StatCounter seems to be really good.
Worth a look!

Living Room / Any free web counters recommendations?
« on: September 23, 2005, 04:33 PM »
I used the free Nedstat service for nearly two years, and was very satisfied with it.
I had various counters on many of my pages at Mark0's home and it was very handy to check how things were going on.

Few weeks ago, they sold/changed to Webstats4U. Things seems to going on well, but in the last days I started to notice some times some pop up ads when browsing trough my pages. After little tests and searching on the web, it come the confirmation that they have started to inject pop up ads trough the counters links.
Not that I think they didn't have the right to do it, but I simply don't wont to bother visitors with annoying pop up, so I removed them all and cancelled the account.

So, I'm in search for a nice replacement. Any idea / experiences?

Thanks,
Bye!

I'm from a place very near Venice, Italy. About 15-20 min. by train.
The fact that there's is a 5 minutes approximation in 20 minutes total says all about the trains service here! :)

But I prefer to consider my home a place where I spent three years as a kid, and where I try to return whenever possibile.
It's Misurina, one of the so-called pearl of the Dolomiti mountains.

Another intresting option is to use a sandbox tool, for example the free Sandboxie.

Once an app is run trough Sandboxie, all disk & registry access go trough a transient temporary area.
That is, if you run Notepad trough Sandboxie, open a file, modify and save it, that file will results modified for that Notepad instance, but the "real" file (outside the sandbox) will remain intact.

You could also run a virus trough it, without worrying about it infecting/modifying the registry or any files, so it come handy if you need to run some EXE that you don't trust too much.

Speaking of virtualization, another viable option is the free QEMU, by Fabrice Bellard (remember the good old LZEXE for 16bit DOS EXE compression? Yes, it's that Fabrice!)

It started as a (very fast, trough dynamic translation) emulator, but now it's also available a so-called "Accelerator", that can skip on the CPU emulation if both host & target CPU are x86.
On Linux it can be used both as a full system emulator, than as a user mode emulator, so it that it can run code for one kind CPU on another CPU (PowerPC, for example).

An impressive software.

General Software Discussion / TrID file identifier
« on: September 16, 2005, 09:55 AM »
Hi!

I would like to present this tool I coded, hoping that it may prove useful to someone.

TrID is a free tool designed to identify binary files regardeless of names/extensions. Instead, it use a library of XML definitions that points to recurring patterns for each "knowed" formats.

Actually, more than 1.600 file types are supported, as you can see here:
http://mark0.net/soft-trid-deflist.html

You could also easyly build new defs for some file types you are familiar with. Simply point TrIDScan to a bunch of files of a specific type, and it will generate a newtype.trid.xml file. Rename it so something more meaningfull, edit the file to fill some description fileds, and you are done.
More details here:
http://mark0.net/soft-tridscan-e.html

If you send me the new defs, I will add them to the base library, and update the file types page giving you the proper credits.

There are 3 flavours of TrID.

Cmd line version:
http://mark0.net/soft-trid-e.html

GUI (.NET) version:
http://mark0.net/soft-tridnet-e.html

Also, an online/browser version. This one can be used from any PC with a browser and an internet connection.

Here's a sample output for an OpenOffice document:
