my experiences with counterspy (and ms antispyware) have been very positive to the point where it has been the only program able to completely remove some spyware from a pc; adaware and spybot S&D failing miserably.
I tend to install it soon after os installation and I've not been plagued with huge numbers of 'errors'. It's a bit 'fat' but I'd call it the best of the bunch by a long margin.

V - The File Viewer should be on that OFM list http://www.fileviewer.com.
If being indispensable has anything to do with loving the interface. I can't say there's ever likely to be an app that I use regularly that I consider ugly.
So if it doesn't fit whatever I conisder to be the best app in the world; and if it doesn't look okay, I'm not going to use it. Heh! how unfair is that? :) I like function over form ANY time.

Most skinned interfaces that cannot be switched off I can't abide. Media players that try to emulate the machine I dislike too. Microsoft's media player being an outstanding example. The compact skin is the closest to usable.
In fact I dislike eye candy of any sort. I hope the candyfied Windows Vista gui can be switched off.

You've named them. mbm is no longer being developed but speedfan is excellent, (donationware).
