So I'll need to buy another hard drive just for Calibre? 
Does it at least give you the option not to put all of that on your OS drive?

eBooks aren't all that big, so it's a reasonable choice to take a copy of them into it's library tree, rather than try & track changes that would occur if it just tried to reference them 'outside'.  I've currently only got just over 1000 books in mine, and the library around 912MB  (Mostly ePub, rather than PDF though).

One advantage not mentioned is that using Stanza on the iPad or the browser on a Kindle, I can access them wirelessly via Calibre's server & WiFi!

It does allow you to choose where to place the library (and to have more than 1 if desired), including moving an existing library tree around.

Note that the blog author appears to have had one "software" problem, which might have been that his WiFi switched off and he didn't know how to re-enable it, while the other problems he writes about are pure hardware issues with his netbook's case - he doesn't really mention anything general ...

I've had my Sony 505 for a bit over a year now, which I got via mail-order from B&H in New York.  I considered the Cybook, but the Sony seemed to be better suited to what I needed (e.g. instant on),  while it's disadvantages compared to the Cybook (no dictionary, no easily changeable fonts) weren't significant to me.

One that I've just come across is FlowBreeze http://www.breezetre...owcharting-software/, which is a a Microsoft® Excel® add-in that automates the flowcharting process by converting your text into flowcharts.

Sounds odd, but I'd say that it's definately worth a look....

Hmm, interesting.  I found that apart from not being able to get the bases of the letters in the right place, they all came out very small, which wasn't really apparent, or at least obvious from the preview. 

I'd suggest seeing if there's any way you can show a size 11, 'standard' char for size comparision in the preview - it might have people trying a couple more times, but they should be happier about the result.

I've also had QImage for years, but the thing that I found most useful was the layout options - I'd often want to print 4 images on an A4 page so just had to set width & height to "x2" (or "x4" for a 16-images contact sheet).

Ralf, dude! You're killing me. You are doing everything you can to avoid using an actual version control system. You are doing extra work, that you would get "out of the box" with version control.

I've got to second that - Ralf's built his own VCS there, but I'd strongly suggest he trial subversion and TortoiseSVN alongside it (which shouldn't be a problem) and see if that might be easier.

While I'm not really using any virtual desktop app at present, Flash Desktops (http://www.flashdesktops.com/) is the best one I've come across when I did try various others a while ago.  It looks not to have been updated recently, but the author's still active in the support forum, so maybe it's just working well enough as it is and doesn't need updating!

The category that I'd be interested in at the moment would be "Best Time Tracker" application - I'm currently seeing how I get on with the following, but it's early days yet...

It's an interesting question ... I read an article a while back that suggested Wikipedia was at least as accurate (and more comprehensive) as Encarta and Britannica.

One alternative option with GTD is the Hipster PDA. 

You may initially laugh, but also take a look at things such as the D*I*Y Planner Hipster PDA Edition 3.0 templates before 'writing' it off!   It also fits in with the GTDWiki mentioned by the OP. :-)
