What is the default file size produced from your digital camera?
do you mean pixels? - I see the limit for QuickThumbnail is 1MB

Olympus c5060: 2592 x 1944 pixels
That makes a file up to 3MB & it's only a 5 megapixel camera, (at highest quality setting though)

General Software Discussion / Re: IE7 Rant

Could never understand why people wouldn't use Opera instead of IE
(reading the first half of this page I kept thinking "WHY NOT OPERA???")

but
now i understand
shame really, cause Opera is such nice software to use  :-*
Off topic=Other Opera Annoyances
I have my own dislikes/annoyances with Opera - cant create profiles, cant save single window sessions (I mean if you've 2 windows open, you cant save ONE window as a single session) - again Opera forums clogged with people looking for both, but nothing doing this version. (In fact i think things got worse if i recall correctly). Now I have Surfulater - no plugin for it ... I keep on using it (Opera) though :-\

don't wish to hijack this thread but this might be of interest:

hmm

I find Pavlinas stuff (what I've read) sometimes helpful, sometimes agravating -
I think (scratch that - I know) he's a very different person to me and his advice just doesn't work sometimes, or I don't (want to) subscribe to it.

But, on the other hand, this guy (link above - "Daldianius") seems to have a large chip on his shoulder.
He's one of these people who believes: if it can't be proven, it's not true.
Claims that Pavlina would belong to those that believe:
I say:The Law of Attraction/Nessy/the aliens/the angels don't exist as long as their existences have not been proven.
They would say: They exist as long as their inexistence have not been proven.

I dunno,
I haven't read enough Pavlina to say,
but neither view seems attractive to me ..

must go checkout the forum now  :)

if you've fallen off the GOE wagon, just pick yourself up, make a post

getting better at that -
or,
"if you've fallen off the GOE wagon, just pick yourself up," - and start another will-do list...

bad link:
... must have been cause I accessed it through Surfulater
(its corrected)

Here's a good blog post (Ishbadiddle) about a combination GTD/Ternmouth system with photos & PDFs etc.

What is so bad about piles of papers all over if you know what is in each pile and can quickly find what you want & need? Would it be better to 'put it all away' and then not be able to make sense of anything later and not be able to find what you need?  Or worse...forget something because it wasn't within sight reminding you of its existence?
-app103
App, have you come across this article.

Called "The Social Life of Paper",
its an interesting one about how paper is persisting in this "digital age".

But,
more to the point:

The messy desk is not necessarily a sign of disorganization. It may be a sign of complexity: those who deal with many unresolved ideas simultaneously cannot sort and file the papers on their desks, because they haven't yet sorted and filed the ideas in their head. Kidd writes that many of the people she talked to use the papers on their desks as contextual cues to "recover a complex set of threads without difficulty and delay" when they come in on a Monday morning, or after their work has been interrupted by a phone call. What we see when we look at the piles on our desks is, in a sense, the contents of our brains.
&
...a photograph of an office piled high with stacks of paper. The occupant of the office -- a researcher in Xerox's European research facility -- was considered neither ineffective nor inefficient. Quite the contrary: he was, they tell us, legendary in being able to find any document in his office very quickly. But the managers of the laboratory were uncomfortable with his office because of what it said about their laboratory. They were, after all, an organization looking to develop digital workplace solutions.
... Whenever senior colleagues came by the office, then, the man with the messy desk was instructed to put his papers in boxes and hide them under the stairs.  ;D

(6) automatic coloring. Set up colors in the scheduler so they can be assigned to any feature of a task. I like to color (by hand) blue the recurring tasks, red the 'have to do' tasks, with a strong deadline (i.e., if I miss the date the opportunity is gone) and white everything else.
-urlwolf

It would be great to be able to do one or both of the following:

1) Mark a block of time in the day-schedule for a sinlge project/Main-task (could be done using colouring).
Then, to be able to add sub-tasks within that block
e.g.:
Mark [8am till 12noon] for Project A
Then: [8.00 - 8.30]-Prepare text; [8.30 - 9.00]-Talk with J.; etc. etc.

2) It would often be helpful if a sub-task in the scheduler had a reference to its parent/main-task (be it colour, text, numbering)

e.g. at the moment I have:

Maintask=Broadband Connection:   Subtask=Phone.
Maintask=Pay Bills:                      Subtask=Phone.

I drag a "Phone" subtask to schedule, but then I dont know which task it refers to.
-
(I realise there are ways around this - being more specific, notes, etc. but I think this feature would be very helpful & would love it to be implemented in some way)

in case your monitor shops ...
:D

anyone ever read the book by Bill Bryson about English in America & how it differs from in England/Britain (& Ireland & elsewhere ...)
It's called Made in America & its a fascinating read.

Often pronunciations, meaning & usage of words in the States stem back hundreds of years -
meanwhile they changed in Britain - AND vice-versa (eg Fall was formerly used in England instead of Autumn)
It's the same in Ireland actually - sometimes Irish pronunciations can be similar to English pronunciation of a couple of hundred years ago (Tay=Tee, Faather=Father etc.)

7 - if I delete the task from the scheduler in a marticular day (as a ruimentary way of marking that I completed the task that day), it disappears from the entire scheduler, but it is still present in the todo (grr!  )

I already miss this: -
you might have a recurring task which you want to do most days (i.e. I have it in the daily planner for the same time everyday),
but I cant remove it from any single particular day if I want to.

        Ha,
Brownstudy got there before me -

        I have a similar story:
I have found the "clean you sink" - or whatever - the
reminder-emails, well, i find they remind me to think -
what am I doing ?
should i be doing something else ?  :)  etc.

Then the baby steps idea i find very helpful - including the caring tone -
much better than me thinking- god, i should have that done by now & what about the other, god, i'll never get this all done (Tom's Conversations with God  :) )

With the help of Flylady I've also so far:
  • started keeping a daily journal (re GOE but including anything i want to write about)
  • got a clean sink - not polished but clean is good too!
  • & yeah, started working a bit better again

Also think not implementing too much at any one time is a good idea.

Re an action routine that you try to implement for 28 days, I'm still a bit fuzzy.
I want to implement that I do the "boring" aspect of my work say X number of hours per day, or (X by 5) hours per week.
I think it wasnt intended for this use but I'll try it anyways ...

One entertaining thing i find about the Flylady mails is that the reminder to go to bed arrives here (GMT+1) after 5 in the morning  ;D
off surfing tonight

Cant get rid of these list thingies ->

I'm one of those people who brush their teeth straight after getting up - do others not ?!?

OK stay calm now & please dont over react:
I dont brush them after breakfast - but, in my defence: i dont eat anything sweet for breakfast, nor anything strong tasting/smelling (e.g. cheese/ham!)

Do most people, for example,
brush their teeth straight after dinner ? (I dont think so, but who knows - maybe they sneak off to the jacks with their travel toothbrushes straight after eating at that dinner party .. :-\ )
Personally,
I would find that would ruin the nice "aftertaste" you get after a good meal (in fact i dont usually eat desserts for the same reason)

Funny the way we all (most of us?) are very set in our ways - I'd be shocked by someone not brushing their teeth straight after getting up - others seem shocked by not brushing after breakfast ....

I'm just after installing this, (thinking of buying before the weekend)
It does seem very usable & useful :)

Urlwolf's requests would be great if implemented.

For me,
I dont like sound reminders - prefer a popup window, that doesnt seem to be an option at the moment.

Also, maybe I'm just a very superficial guy,
but the colours out of the box are terrible imho.
I know you can change some, but not the calender colour - & its a struggle to find colours that dont clash with that colour!
I think if you trying to get people to try & buy - if its more attractive out of the box, I reckon you'll sell more/quicker  :)

PS thanks to Urlwolf for the review & to Vladimir for the programme and for coming to the forum  :)

You can also use Evolution in Windows. It works quite nicely I did try it out. I have now totally switiched to Linux so am using it in Linux now. I am growing quite fond of it!

Helen
anyone got any more info/opinions about Evolution ?

11193
that thread has been very helpful to me.

Jeez, it was really hopping for a few days there,
I'm still digesting the stuff.

Checked it again tonight:
heres an interesting one!
I work, sleep, eat, socialise, play with the children, warch TV (I leave it on all the time) have business meetings, listen to music (I have it playing all the time), do my accounts, read books, build shelves, repair computers, all in my office/lounge/bedroom. It's not because there are no other rooms. I have ten children and we rent a big house. It's not even a big enough room. (If only it was bigger.)
Of course I don't change into 'work clothes' when I get up, nor do I shave (not in the last 30 years anyway). If I didn't mind doing that I could consider working for a company.

I think he ("No Thanks I'm an Introvert", 22 October) should write a book
(I need it :D )

Oh I missed you have TMP. It takes control over close button - Display, Tab, Show section.

Only "hacking" Ive needed with TMP is to increase coloring of tabs. You can look up code at their forum for more, ie. for a "Proteted" tab.
yeah I just discovered that, in the cold light of morning ...
brain doesnt work so logically/practically for me late at night!
thanks, tom

11197
thanks for your help dk70

unfortunately
neither worked for me -
the about:config one didnt work, but then I couldnt erase it so tried the other too -

I'm going off to sleep now & might try again another day,
but think I may have some quality that causes things to function not as expected - when it comes to modifying programme files at any rate .. :-\

I have TabMixPlus installed anyways so theres no problem with space  :)

Like this:

"For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin –– real life.  But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid, then life would begin.  At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life."

and this:

helping ... meet the basic human needs for safety, self-maintenance, security, and self-esteem, as well as a sense of belonging to a family or group
off to look at a couple of those sites ..

Actually, you can point PDFCreator to wherever you have Ghostscript installed:
Open PDFCreator from the start menu.
Select "Printer -> Options".
In the "Program" box, select "Ghostscript".
From that dialog, you can manually enter a path to gswin32c.exe, wherever it may be.
Hope this helps.
Yeah!
thanks Edvard,
would like to clean that all up  :)
cheers, Tom

http://kb.mozillazin...er.tabs.closeButtons show how to rule close button - so a value of 3 will be "(Firefox 1.x behavior)".
didn't find that very clear -

does anyone know which file I'm supposed to edit -
is it:
userchrome.css
usercontent.css
user.js
config.xml ??

or is it something else -
I couldnt find "browser.tabs.closeButtons." in any of those files
maybe I'm supposed to add it myself,
as i say, not very clear to me from that link - any further advice would be mucho appreciated  :)
