the first one - no-one mentioned the name yet  :D  - Uninstall Tool 1.6.6 - it's portable.

It does load icons so reckon Safarp would be quicker that way.

mentioned in this thread here:
https://www.donation...83.msg33577#msg33577

and a couple of posts later Carol says:
No - it doesn't mention dates - but it does nice things like open RegEdit and jump to the relevant part for each app or jump to the installation folder. You can also trawl through 'hidden' installs.

TrueLaunchBar (http://truelaunchbar.com $$ - This just makes my computing life easier.  I actually run with my taskbar at the bottom (with a truelaunchbar enhanced quick launch) and a toolbar across the top of the screen with some truelaunch plugins and my clipmate toolbar.  I loose a tiny bit of screen real estate, but I work faster.

it'd be nice to see a screenshot if you could?

Attached to this post is the grid you asked for, singx7. I also fixed the 3-part reversed grid, it had an error. Thanks for noticing it ;)

hi jgpaiva,
dont think I've posted here before - it's a wonderful thing is gridmove !!
I actually dont use it that much due to nature of my work, but when I do, boy do I appreciate it (should go donate then  :) )

Anyways, the above grid doesnt seem to be attatched to post as you say - also your whatchamacallit - signature - the image link is broken (from my perspective at any rate!)

I know nothing about mp3 players - always hated wearing earphones ...

but this about gapless recording of continuous albums may be of interest to people here. (There's updates towards the top of the page)
Most MP3 players cannot play albums; do you care?
The MP3 format has inherent flaws which, unless worked around, mean it cannot move seamlessly from one track to the next without adding silence or at least a click. Some players (and encoders) address these problems and perfect gapless playback is possible with MP3 but, rather than address these problems, the majority of MP3 players, both hardware and software, actually make things worse by inserting additional silence of their own.

I you only use WP occasionally why not just use WordPad ? It does most things needed for quickly typing a letter etc. and it is on your computer anyway.
tried it but even though I dont use it often, I want to be able to make tables, see where the page ends &, I dont know - have more control ( I must ... have control ...   :tellme:  :-[ )

I installed the trial version of Textmaker
http://www.softmaker...m/english/ofw_en.htm
(SoftMakerOffice - with Word & Excel replacements)

I was having trouble, or rather I should say someone else was having trouble with an OpenOffice word .doc I made - when they opened it in the latest Word all the colour-highlighting was gone.
Sorted that out in textmaker.

You can also open OpenOffice documents.
It seems to hold the original layout much better than with OOo/Word or AbiWord/Word or OOo/AbiWord.
I read somewhere but cant find it now (should be working :) ) that you can install it on a USB stick.

But the most impressive thing - for a lot of people here anyway, is that you can get an Academic/Student/Teacher liscence for €14 - i dunno - but estimate conversion @ around $16 & (my god, theres no Pound symbol on my keyboard) maybe 7Pounds sterling or so.
(You do need to prove your studenthood or academic status.)

They may as well give it away, well, unfortunately I dont qualify
- it's still under €70 full price so certainly compared to MS it's a bargain.

See Zaine's review (below the Open Office one)
http://www.anova.org...are/index01.htm#word

...but it's java >_<
does that simply mean painfully slow (I'm thinking of OOo)
or is there worse?

« on: January 11, 2007, 04:16 AM »
Hi Arjen

went for it (workcoach) again this morning.
Was having some system problems (genaral high CPU usage) but seems fairly okay now (dunno, I rebooted ... :) )
Listed as AMD AthalonXP 1666MHz 2000+
Win XP uptodate

Using Process Explorer:
CPU rates vary between 15 & 30%
still seems very high - it seems to fluctuate a lot as i work even though I havent changed window/programme. (CPU changes every second or so but then I notice they all do that in ProcessExp.!!)
Also seems so far not to vary that much between different programmes (including surfing)

hope that helps ??!!

i  trust  that  you  did  not  know  that  spyware  terminator   was  on  the  rogue  software  lists  with  spyware  warrior...since  being  de-listed  has  been  heavily  spammed  on  numourous  forums  with  a  great  deal  of  encouragement  from  its  developers....and  i  for  one  do  not  want  an  app  thats  developed  by  a  company  whose  main  objective  is  in  advertising....

please  research  your  recommendations  more  thorouthly  in  future.....
I suspect a lot of people aren't aware of that ... could you give us a link there?

quite apart from that, it's not getting very good results - see

pity, it was so nice to have auto-updates  :-\

Will someone get this stupid attach system a useful help section!!

Mouser already did, Curt.. Check out https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1996.0

(i edited your post to show the screenshot)

It would be helpful if this link could be added to the "post reply" window.
(Dont know if that would be possible?)
A lot of people (me included  :) ) have difficulty figuring out attach images first time round ..

jeez,
there's enough in that review alone to keep a body thinking a while  :)

"learning to take care of ourselves creatively rather than resentfully is a big step in growing up"

Along those lines I also recommend you buy the book Radical Honesty. Not an easy read but well worth the time invested!

brotherS, any chance you could tell us something about the book?
thanks, tom

« on: January 05, 2007, 01:57 AM »
If I understood you correctly the program currently keeps a much simpler counter of time used per window and simply increments this and saves it in a file. Adding timestamped events if this is the case is probably too much to ask because it is a departure from your current lean and simple approach, what do you think ?

have you looked at TitleLog
https://www.donation...45.msg33062#msg33062
It keeps track of all windows used - to the minute - which is great as a record of what you doing but not so good for keeping track of how long youve spent on something throughout the day.

Anyone else having problems with WorkCoach using a lot of CPU ?

11116
The notifier displays a number of recent posts in a pop-up window upon user request and when it detects mouse hovering on the title bar of one of the posts, it shows the content of the post in a floating window and closes the window when the cursor moves out of the area. In a word, shrink and expand.
..
any idea?  :)

great idea

11117
I think the problem here lies in how we can effectively determine "missed notifications". Imagine the user sits right before his display when the notifier pops up, he was staring at his monitor, probably daydreaming and then only scans a few words on it and decides to ignore it, letting it automatically fade out.
...
Maybe one of the criteria could be "no keyboard/mouse activity for ## seconds", same way how screen savers work. What do you think?
-mobysaurus
on thinking about it i think theres too many variables (for me at any rate :-\ )

I think if it was available I would use a universal hotkey to bring up the popup showing recent posts (i.e. preferably directly to the recent posts) & I probably wouldnt bother with anything else

also, for example, a couple of times today I happened to hit return as a new post was materialising in the corner - it disappears - then the hotkey would come to the rescue again  :D

I havent read the full thread so it may have been suggested already:
possibility of changing number of recent posts would be nice.

ta, tom

11118
would it be possible or what would you think of an option to show it as a minimizable window - I mean from the point of view of being able to Alt-Tab to it & then check recent posts -
if I am staying at computer I could minimize it to system tray - then maybe a hotkey to bring it up as a window if I'm coming & going ?
-tom

I was thinking very complicated there !  :)

A universal hotkey to bring up recent posts would cover it - think you were probably considering that anyways

thats impressive drawing

 - woman is still a bit skeletal at the end though !

11121
great stuff mobysaurus

I really like the interface,
but because at times I'm repeatedly away from the computer for short spells, I then dont know have I missed new posts or not -

I'm wondering:
is there already an option i missed out on that would help, or
have other people this problem & have solution/ideas ??
or, e.g.
would it be possible or what would you think of an option to show it as a minimizable window - I mean from the point of view of being able to Alt-Tab to it & then check recent posts -
if I am staying at computer I could minimize it to system tray - then maybe a hotkey to bring it up as a window if I'm coming & going ?

or is there some other way?

« on: December 29, 2006, 11:11 AM »
no, it was a copy -
but they had one liscence for, I dunno, maybe 25 computers ...

I guess when i think about it the liscence would be in their name & probably for use on copmuters also in their name.. so I'll forget about it & continue the search for a sub.

11123
loads of good stuff there  :)

General Software Discussion / "Word" liscence query
« on: December 29, 2006, 08:48 AM »
I use word processers very little (is that even what the're called?  :D )

I'm giving up on Open office - probably mainly cause I use it very little - it's starting it is such a pain !! but also its been pretty buggy for me & considering how little i use it I dont want to be spending lots of time trying to sort out stuff ...

I was given a copy of MS office years ago (it would suit my current requirements fine) by a company I was working for at the time (as selfemployed)
I always presumed as such it would be an illegal copy, hence I eventually got rid of it & moved on to various free/open source*

I'm now wondering if it really is an illegal copy.
Is there a way I can check without actually installing it - it would be a pain just to have to uninstall it again (I remember having major problems trying to uninstall some version of office..)
I do have the serial number

anyone got any tips?
thanks, tom

*the best one I've found so far (not free, but very reasonable) is Polyedit but it doesnt seem to have a page layout view so youve no idea where your pages begin/end. (I just posted a query at their forum)
Abi Word seems to have a lot of trouble opening Word docs - layout changes all the time (maybe I can change the margins of the default document .. will go look)
I know Zaine raves about some word/excel replacement for around $80 I think, which sounds great - but when you literally hardly ever use the thing its MONEY!

11125
I used live around the corner from a market where you could order a bike of your choice -
& they would have it for you within the hour - while I was then less upstanding than i am now, that was just taking things too far ..

Re locks - i dont think theres any that hold out for long - it's a bit like virus & antivirus etc.
