T-Clock / Re: T-Clock 2010 (alpha - download)
« on: March 21, 2010, 07:09 AM »
Thank you for this Windows7 compatible utility.

If I could ask for one feature: Week in "Date Options". Would be very useful. Thanks.

Hm... Let me make sure I got this right; You're looking for the week # (1-52) of the year, yes? While I've not a clue what this is used for, it's got to be the (hands down) most requested feature in T-Clocks history (at least the part I've been involved in). So it's definitely on the To-Do list. I can't say when it will be added (i gota figure out how first) but it will be added at some point.

If I'm of base, feel free to clarify, and I might give that a shot too. ;)

True. Week 01-52 would be fine.

Why I need it? Well, I've to deal a lot with week numbers at my workplace, like ... "this reports is for week... ah, what's the current week number again?" Right now I'm using BetaClock, but this tool isn't working under Win7 and my workplace PC will get an update to Win7 soon.

If you have time for this feature and want to make it the best ever seen, offer "Simple week number" and "ISO 8601 week number" (http://www.proesite.com/timex/wkcalc.htm) and do your own calculation. Do no rely on what Windows returns as week number, as it gives wrong results under Win7 (possible bug in the international settings. HKCU\Control Panel\International\iFirstWeekOfYear should be set to 1 for ISO 8601).

I am sad for the future of mankind.  :(

If you want to be sad, see the future of online chatting: http://chatroulette.com/

Click away people you don't want and get a a new chat partner in an instant. And you better be interesting yourself, else you'll be clicked away before you can say a word.

"Hitler finally declares war on Hitler Parodies" is really funny.

"I'd post it again!" ... *lol* :D

Some ideas:

I wouldn't launch the "10 mins wait then hibernate" command via Autostart but the "runonce" registry setting (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/137367)

The "10 mins wait" command should also check if the system is idle and/or do a "10 seconds to hibernate" countdown.

General Software Discussion / Re: FinePrint vs. priPrinter
« on: January 21, 2010, 03:52 AM »
- is it?? €65 for the option to edit the text before printing!!!

Including Austria VAT I paid about € 15 for the standard version.

- sure, they are "clever": keep version 3 Pro Beta and get used to it so you simply will "need" to upgrade to the final Pro because your program has "auto' search for updates" as default

You're acting like the "standard" version is a crippled light version of the software and everyone has to upgrade to the pro version.

Here are the differences:

The Professional Edition of priPrinter 3.0 includes all of the functionality of the Standard Edition with the following additional features:

    * PDF output directly from priPrinter application.
    * Text redaction, highlighting, coloring and deletion.

Also, nobody is forcing you to install the "3.0 preview" version. Just go for the stable 2.5x and you'll never know what you're going to miss.

IMHO, 3.0b is open for all users, because there are no "pro licenses" out yet. Once it's relased you can decide to install 3.0 standard or 3.0 Professional (+upgrade).

Thanks for the info, AbteriX.  ;-)

With today's 50% discount and upgradeable to 3.x (and 4.x?) PriPrinter is a real bargain.

Pelikan Software KFT Developer Aron Torti (Pelikan Software KFT Developer) Says:

- License is for v2, v3 Standard and for next one.
...
- priPrinter does more than FinePrint . At least we think so.

No problem. It'd be nice to see this (with even more features) in a proper GUI. The AHK source is included.

Finished Programs / Re: DONE: Script help request
« on: January 04, 2010, 12:05 PM »
Here are two scripts for your request.

Read the Help file for each command and try to understand what the commands are doing. I couldn't write a script without looking in the help file. :)

Something you can try: If the download is OK, check the size of the downloaded file. If smaller than let's say 50 kb, read the file in a variable and check for a "not found" string. (If the file is not found, AHK will save the 404 error page.)

msgbox, 36, This box has a title, This is a message
IfMsgBox, Yes
run,http://www.autohotkey.com/download/AutoHotkeyInstall.exe

or

msgbox, 36, This box has a title, This is a message
IfMsgBox, Yes
{
ToolTip, Downloading...
UrlDownloadToFile, http://www.autohotkey.com/download/AutoHotkeyInstall.exe, %A_scriptdir%\AutoHotkeyInstall.exe
Tooltip
if errorlevel = 1
msgbox, 16, This is another title, Download failed
else
msgbox, 64, This is another title, Download OK`n`(but can't be 100`% sure`, check AHK help file`)
}

N.A.N.Y. 2010 / Re: NANY 2010 Teaser: SubDiv
« on: January 04, 2010, 10:02 AM »
Not meant to discourage but maybe you can get some inspiration from Belvedere
Maybe adding options to dynamically create folders based on date, or put up some pre-defined rules like, auto-sort by extension and create folders based on the extensions and/or type. Example predefined rules would be:
*.pdf --> Goes to PDF folder
*.xls; *.doc; *.ppt --> goes to MSOffice folder
*.jpg;*.gif;*.png --> goes to Images folder

...and yes, it's great that it will be a portable app.

You can also try this tool...

https://www.donation....msg159246#msg159246

Would be great if pyrohacker adds the same features in his tool. Especially the "keep .ini and .exe together" feature request was a great idea.

Instead of Right clicking each folder in your User Home Folder going to Properties and under Location, Moving it to a new drive. Can this be automated.

Just hold down shift and Drag & Drop.

Windows realizes what you want to do, and will do all the necessary registry changes. Works already under Windows XP.

Thanks for the links. BabySmash is kinda cute. :)

Another one: Kid-Key-Lock. My favorite, because it really blocks everything.

>Now if Win7 is similar to that Vista behavior of hiding options 'too deep' without an option to disable all the eye-candy...

Right click desktop, select properties or customize (using a German version here)
Scroll down to "Windows - classic", click on it
Close window

Easy enough? :-)

Nice, but WSCC seems better. Easier to update (just click Update) and a description for Sysinternals utilities.

I don't understand what's wrong with the JK/MyDefrag "screen saver" solution?

  • It starts the JK/MyDefrag GUI and defrags if the PC is idle and stops if the user returns. Other solutions (task scheduler, IdleStart, ...) would keep the defrag task running if the user returns
  • It will start another screensaver after defrag finishes. If someone hates screensavers and won't use any energy savings option, just select the LogOn or Black Screen screensaver.
  • And - nice feature: "Do not run if the last completed run was less than xx hours ago". Other solutions would start defragging again and again...

@jgpaiva
Agree 100%! I defrag my system partition once a month... ;)

Use the screensaver installed with jkdefrag/MyDefrag.

FWIW, the new jkdefrag is now called MyDefrag:

Post New Requests Here / Re: Utility to find UNIQUE set of files

Interesting request...

Here's a tiny AHK script. I'm just an amateur script writer, so I'm sure it can be done much better, but it works (at least on my system). Please do some testing of your own.

See attachment for compiled AHK script + source

1.) edit the ini file and enter the paths you want to check
2.) run unique.exe

You're talking about Hotstrings.

Documentation: http://www.autohotke.../docs/Hotstrings.htm

Script example for your request:

:*:MaxHeadroom::This is the first line{enter}This is the second line{enter}This is the third line

Save the script as "whatever.ahk", launch it and if you type "MaxHeadroom" it'll be replaced.

in germany as of 15 july until the middle of august - or until supplies run out [whatever that means] you can get Windows 7 Home Premium E for 49.99 euros

Until middle of August? I've to agree with Carol. This is truly a marketing scam.

Amazon Germany sold out in 7 minutes. :tellme:

Apparently they just got 1500 copies to sell. Another German dealer got the same amount. Others less.

> I have read that a single, all-zero free space pass proves to be unrecoverable, but I need to ensure that this data can not be recovered and read from the "real" drive.

According to this study a plain format (writing zeros, one pass) makes it impossible to recover any data.

You can use File Scavenger (http://www.quetek.com/prod02.htm) to make sure your data is unrecoverable.

>What is the best thing to do then????

J-Mac told you many times what to do. I told you what to do. This is the last time I write in this thread:  :-\

As paying customer you shouldn't mess around with system restore and stuff. You paid for an working system, demand it. If your tech guy can't do remote desktop sessions and fix this minor problem remotely, this guy sounds like a loser and you should really really find another person for your PC troubles. Installing Windows XP all over again is no solution to every problem.

IF your tech guy is willing to DEMAND MONEY (and quite much) for installing a PIRATED Windows XP, he should accept the consequences... like you, the customer, following the "Bought a PC with no genuine installation of Windows" steps if Activation/Windows Genuine Advantage fails.

> I just paid $243 on May 11 to have my hard drive wiped and Windows XP reinstalled and I already have a problem.

There could be two things.

This tech guy installed a VLK version of Windows. Microsoft blacklisted some widespread VLK keys recently, so there...

Or you got some malware.

Anyway, this person who cleaned and installed Windows XP for you, messed up. Call this person and demand to have these issues fixed, for no cost. This can be done by remote desktop software and probably takes few minutes only. A not working Windows XP version or leaving someone with administration rights + no protection against malware isn't worth $243 at all.

Here's a simple Access database. Perhaps you'll find it useful.

Another simple solution would be to use Treepad Light.

DC Gamer Club / Re: Game endings (no spoilers)
« on: May 17, 2009, 04:39 PM »
Game endings... why invest work in something people won't see or when they see it, they bought the game anyway. So, why bother? :)

My very first experience on a good game ending was in the first computer game I ever owned: Mastertronics "Human Race" on C64. As end sequence a starship appeared with some nice written congratulation text. Loved it.... incredible how much they put into 32 KB memory. Video: http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=zw2dqAxSo3I

My worst game ending was also on a C64 and the game "Commando". The game was incredible difficult and all I got was a lousy "Congratulations! Mission Complete!" text. I was quite pissed. ;-) Video: http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=kcfKJGVwjzU (player seems to be cheating)

Use TweakUI to activate the x-mouse setting (http://articles.tech...0878_11-5082157.html) or change the registry (http://www.pctools.c.../registry/detail/18/).

In Vista this feature is part of the OS (Control Panel > Ease of Access Center > Make the mouse easier to use)
