Living Room / Everyone is 2022 this year!
« on: January 01, 2023, 11:12 AM »
Seems adding your year of birth + age = 2022 for everyone this year.

A mystery for coders to resolve!  :)

Stumbled on this site today:

"Product Hunt surfaces the best new products, every day. It's a place for product-loving enthusiasts to share and geek out about the latest mobile apps, websites, hardware projects, and tech creations."

https://www.techsupportalert.com  :-* :P :)

Around March 2021, Google AdSense canceled their advertisement service for Gizmo’s Freeware for unexplained reasons. With that income breaking away, the cost for running the site could not be covered anymore. The site itself presented several technical challenges too, that could not be resolved in the existing environment. With a heavy heart, the management team had to announce the shut down of the site by mid of July 2021.

The site was taken down and a farewell page was posted instead. Many comments were made on that page, expressing how sad the shut down was and asking whether there was any way to keep the site alive.

Encouraged by these messages, the management team decided to regroup and come up with a new concept that will keep Gizmo’s legacy alive but that also marks a fresh start: Gizmo’s Best.

It is now managed by George “Sundance”, Jojo, Glyn “Midnight Cowboy” and Rhiannon. The four of them were part of Gizmo’s management team for many years.

Gizmo’s Best is all new and yet, continues with the best of Gizmo’s Freeware. A new site has been built on modern architecture bringing back popular content from Gizmo’s Freeware but also adding new stuff to serve our community.

Best regards,
Your Gizmo’s Best Team

Living Room / Looking for alternative script to search site
« on: March 29, 2021, 10:06 AM »
Have a script in my bookmarks to search a site, but it always uses Google.

Is there a way to have one that can use another search engine?

Startpage, DuckDuckGo, Presearch, Qwant are some of my favorite alternatives.

5
From a users point of view...

Is there an installable script to make Youtube automatically translate and show in English subtitles?

Independent of any browser?

Would be handy for elderly who are often non-geeks and deaf.

Thought the good folks here would appreciate knowing:

How one guy made his (heart wrenching) way to Python:

I'm not a coder, but similar stories will surely help some to appreciate and maybe eventually embrace this.
The above story i originally found at:

Have been using this security software at the free level for a while now and find it quite helpful.
Hope it can be of help to members here.

Find And Run Robot / What is FARR's connection with Onedrive?
« on: July 23, 2019, 08:10 AM »
I've got Onedrive by default and sync it only with Documents.
Why FARR is messed up with this is beyond my understanding:

Must always exit FARR for Onedrive to finish its sync.

I'm most certainly no coder, but... did spot Snippetnote on MakeUseOf and thought i'd share since the author saw it as useful to coders.

Living Room / Why doesn't DC make its own browser?
« on: December 25, 2017, 02:32 PM »
With all the decent coders here (many of whom are doing some good, honest, free-will work) could we not come up with a viable alternative to present browsers?
I'm sure plenty of donations would come in to encourage this kind of venue and who knows just how far the project could go and be of benefit to all.

A 2018 N.A.N.O. project maybe?

Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year to all!

Have an Excel file set up with 14 tabs (12 for each month, 1 for reserve & 1 for monthly results).
Let's say the reserve tab has various $ or Euro amounts to be used on a monthly basis.
So far, i've had to copy/paste from the reserve onto the specified month then clear the reserve items, thus leaving a space of many items that can not be deleted without breaking code.
What i'm hoping to do, is that the empty space created in the reserve tab be automatically filled or moved up with remaining items (monetized items) instead of having to copy/paste again and clear the lines where they were before.

If i can get this part done, i would be a very happy man!   :)

Living Room / Good bye Firefox
« on: October 29, 2017, 09:05 AM »
Once upon a time...

There was a browser far superior to others.
Unequalled in tweakability (extensions, GUI etc.).
With Firefox 57, all the legacy extensions have "gracefully" been kicked out the door (or will be crippled in their new version).
Even basic options such as ctrl+shift+b to show/hide bookmarks toolbar have disappeared.

If it took more than 10 years to get a fast loading Firefox with increased webpage rendering,
how long will it take to get back some decent extensions to give back its initial splendor?

It was nice to have you as my default browser for over 13 years and more!

Thank you Mozilla for this great now defunct browser.

Hope this noble effort will help Legacy add-on devs to continue their good work.

Living Room / Can DC member bail out Firefox via Waterfox ?
« on: August 20, 2017, 10:55 AM »
Firefox as most longtime users know has been going downhill for quite some time (cf. Dedoimedo's recent article).

The Waterfox Project seems to be the only viable alternative that bears the promise of maintaining the legacy add-ons which shall soon no longer be compatible with Firefox.

Many legacy devs have already abandonned ship and so, i was wondering if DC members could come to the rescue and help with the upkeep of these illustrious extensions or to even touch base with the add-on devs to let them know that we are people wanting to help them?

Just a thought.

It could be part of a N.A.N.Y. project.

Screenshot Captor / Is there a time limit on 3rd party hosting?
« on: July 07, 2017, 08:06 AM »
Other than an eventual option to remove an uploaded file image to 3rd party hosting service...

Would like to know if there's a time frame limit to the hosting of these "clippings"?

Just noticed the other day that i can get a preview of all open tabs in Firefox on Windows 10 taskbar.  :-*
Is this a new feature or an addon that slipped this one in?
A mystery for me right now, but a welcome one which reminds me of Vivaldi's similar preview feature.
This, and the DuckDuckGo which can be tweaked in so many ways now, makes me want to go back to Firefox as default.

Firefox has (afaik) only 3 extensions for Google Keep, none of which offer option to "add to Google Keep" on right-clicking selected text.

Perhaps some gifted hacker here would know how to it with Firefox?  :-*

Recent "Google Keep Chrome Extension" has this...

Living Room / Newbud - a new independent news project
« on: January 16, 2016, 01:40 PM »
This might not come as news to those familiar with James Corbett and friends.
Just thought a bit of good publicity could help the cause to get that extra thrush for a good start.

Newsbud is a new independent news project being promoted by Sibel Edmonds.
You can view a presentation through her weblog here.
Do wish Sibel and company all the success possible on this new endeavour!

A quick trip today to see how Onenote online is doing and alas, it seems to be broken.

First, you can "find in page" or "find in section" but there's no more "find in notebook".
Second, a search result of "find in section" showed 8 to be found but only clicking on those findings only resulted with certain elements on the default start page being hightlighted. Sheeessh!

Another Microsoft blunder, i say!

Living Room / Stuff you need to know
« on: March 10, 2015, 08:01 AM »
A friend fooled me with the title of this composition.
What did you think it was about?

Stuff you need to know

1. Your shoes are the first thing people subconsciously notice
 about you. Wear nice shoes.

 2. If you sit for more than 11 hours a day, there's a 50% chance
you'll die within the next 3 years.

 3. There are at least 6 people in the world who look exactly like
you. There's a 9% chance that you'll meet one of them in your lifetime.

 4. Sleeping without a pillow reduces back pain and keeps your
 spine stronger.

 5. A person’s height is determined by their father, and their
weight is determined by their mother.

 6. If a part of your body "falls asleep", You can almost always
"wake it up" by shaking your head.

 7. There are three things the human brain cannot resist noticing
 - food, attractive people and danger.

 8. Right-handed people tend to chew food on their right side

 9. Putting dry tea bags in gym bags or smelly shoes will absorb
 the unpleasant odor.

 10. According to Albert Einstein, if honey bees were to disappear
from earth, humans would be dead within 4 years.

 11. There are so many kinds of apples, that if you ate a new one
everyday, it would take over 20 years to try them all.

 12. You can survive without eating for weeks, but you will only
 live 11 days without sleeping.

 13. People who laugh a lot are healthier than those who don’t.

 14. Laziness and inactivity kills just as many people as smoking.

 15. A human brain has a capacity to store 5 times as much
 information as Wikipedia.

 16. Our brain uses the same amount of power as a 10-watt light
 bulb!!

 17. Our body gives enough heat in 30 mins to boil 1.5 liters of
 water!!

 18. The Ovum egg is the largest cell and the sperm is the
 smallest cell !!

 19. Stomach acid (conc. HCl) is strong enough to dissolve razor
 blades!!

 20. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day & while you walk, SMILE.
 It is the ultimate antidepressant.

 21. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.

 22. When you wake up in the morning, pray to ask God's guidance
 for your purpose, today.

 23. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less
food that is manufactured in plants.

 24. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries,
 broccoli, and almonds.

 25. Try to make at least three people smile each day.

 26. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires,
issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control.
Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

 27. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner
like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.

 28. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

 29. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Forgive them
 for everything.

 30. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

 31. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

 40. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your
 friends will. Stay in touch.

 42. Each night before you go to bed, pray to God and be thankful
for what you accomplished, today .

 43. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.

Now: Forward this to your friends to help them lead a happier and
 healthier life...
