Cool, it rubricates!  :tellme: I had to look that one up. It sounds too much like Calvin and Hobbes' transmorgifier.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Delete an Alias
« on: July 27, 2007, 09:18 AM »
No, they are not in the "Installed" directory. I'm using Vista and FARR (or Vista) creates directories all over the place. My alias files are in:
C:\Users\Ed\AppData\Roaming\DonationCoder\FindAndRunRobot\AliasGroups\MyCustom

I also have FARR related directories in:
C:\program files
C:\Users\Ed\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\DonationCoder\DcUpdater\RedirectFiles
C:\Users\Ed\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\FindAndRunRobot\Plugins
C:\ProgramData\DonationCoder\DcUpdater\RedirectFiles

It's a real mess. But, the alias files in MyCustom are not readonly.

Find And Run Robot / Delete an Alias
« on: July 27, 2007, 07:43 AM »
How do I delete an alias? I created a test alias to try something out and now FARR will not let me delete it. It says it is read-only. No big deal as I can uncheck it, but I am curious.  The alias is in MyAliases.alias and the file is not read only.

Beautiful! Thanks jgpaiva.

Okay, my media player doesn't have a command line option for loading folders. But, I do have a utility that will recursively create playlists. So, how could I implement this so that FARR will search folders and find m3u playlists? I already know the command line to load them (Play | MC12.exe /PlayReplace "$$1*").

331
does it really improve pc performance like the sales pitch claims?

I have tried several defrag software and have never noticed much of an improvement, so I would be curious if this is really noticeable.
I own PD8 but now I use JKDefrag. It seems just as effective and is more minimalistic.

332
Does anybody know how to do this using JRiver Media Center? I am using the following:
Play | MC12.exe /PlayReplace "$$1"
Append | MC12.exe /Append "$$1"
Back | restartsearch m $$c

This will not load folders of music but will load individual songs.

hehehe thanks edbro, ended up at $7.56 australian, less than a packet of cigarettes  ;D
And significantly better for you!

This is a great deal. But it gets sweeter. If you buy one product you will be offered the others at a big discount. Then google for "Zoner discount" and you will find some old coupons out there. They still work, even after the 90% discount! (try WUGPHOTOSTUDIO1 for 30% off). I ended up getting Photostudio for only $6.xx (I forget the exact amount).

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: NirCmd Setup, a guide of sorts
« on: July 17, 2007, 09:46 PM »
Okay, I got it now. Yes, it was competing commands causing the problem. The real problem is the way Vista handles the %programfiles% directory. It will not allow any program to write to any directory inside program files. What it does is redirect all writes to a virtualstore directory buried deep inside the Users directory. I had manually copied some plugins and alias groups into the program files directory. Some stuff was mirrored in the virtualstore directory. When DCUpdater does its stuff, all the updates get written to the virtual store directory. It was a real mess. I ended up uninstalling/reinstalling FARR and manually cleaning up the duplicated items out of program files.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: NirCmd Setup, a guide of sorts
« on: July 17, 2007, 08:58 PM »
Well, I must be doing something wrong. I put the entire nircmd folder in /Aliasgroups/installed and this is what I get:
Untitled.jpg
The alias shows up in FARR options as shown here:
nircmd.jpg
Why don't I get the full set of commands with the icons?

Edit: I also have trouble with this inline attachment thing. The images are in the opposite order. This way of attaching images is pretty screwy. You can't preview them and it is impossible to see from the code exactly what you have attached.

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to find where I'm supposed to put this. Right now I have the entire nircmd folder in the /Aliasgroups/Mycustom folder. The "nircmd icons" folder is in the "nircmd" folder. I'm not getting all the commands to show up and the icons don't show at all. Am I doing this correctly? Do I need to configure anything inside FARR to tell it about the new alias group?

338
Hmmmm.... Might have to take another look. Although my filemanager has bookmarks which reduces the need for this.

339
Yes, I took a look at it also but uninstalled it because it will only work with Explorer. I prefer to use another file manager.

340
Try J.River Media Center. It is the cadillac of media players.

341
I simply placed another copy of the plugin in another folder renamed to ShowPrinter. Then in the alias override box I gave them unique aliases.
Farr.jpg

Mouser, How in the heck do you attach images? I'm semi-intelligent but I can't figure it out!
I used the "attach" button above and browsed to my image using the browse dialog. But, how do you actually attach it???? I have "Link Inline Image.." selected in the top drop down box, although I tried all the combinations. Previewing each of them showed nothing.

edit: never mind. I guess it works after all. The preview didn't show the image though.

342
I'm using setprn to set default printer and showprn to show the printer dialog.

Uploaded 0.0.0.3.  Please see post #1.

Great! I made a copy with a different override alias so now I have one that sets the default and another that shows the queue.

Living Room / Re: Wine Ratings Are For Suckers: Fun Article

I agree for the most part but, I have been turned on to some pretty good wines by reading reviews. Lately, I have been drinking a lot of Australian blended wines. My current favorite is a Rosemont Shiraz/Grenach blend. The current Australian blends are a great value for your money.

Ran a tweaking program without making any registry backups
Say it isn't so!!! :o

Which tweaking program did you run? Have you rebooted since then? You might want to reopen the tweak program to see if it tells you which services it turns off, although I can't think of a service that would disable FARR's ability to launch a program.

Your best bet is to refer to Black Vipers Services page to see what the recommended settings are. You can go to his homepage to view each setting and its recommendation. Or, just download the reg file from MajorGeeks:

Great plugin, thanks. How do you setup multiple copies of a printer driver?

Find And Run Robot / Re: FARR v2 Tricks and Tips Clinic
« on: June 30, 2007, 02:03 PM »
Not really a FAR trick but just a tip. For OneNote users (and Evernote), you can create hyperlinks to individual pages. For some of my most used notes I use those hyperlinks to create shortcuts which I place in a folder searched by FAR. Now I can go directly to an individual note in OneNote.

I have a problem with Barnacle causing my system to slow way down. I'm running Barncle .992 on Vista Business. Currently, I only have one toolbar with 24 buttons for xplorer2.exe. 3 of those buttons are just blank icons for spacing. I noticed that if I leave xplorer2 open for a while with the toolbar running, after a while my system will really slow down. For example, if I type anything in notepad, it will take several seconds for the text to appear, as if was coming across a 300baud modem. It seems to get worse the longer the app stays running. The first indication I get is when I run my mouse across the toolbar icons it will slow down as if I was dragging it through molasses.

I suspected it was Barnacle because the problem appeared shortly after installing it. Tonight, I closed most other processes and ran xplorer2 and Barncle by themselves. After about 30 minutes the problem appeared. Taskmanager does not show high cpu usage. When I shut down Barnacle, the system sluggishness dissapeared.

Is this a Vista problem? Does Barnacle play well with Vista? I use Autohotkey with several other scripts and no problems.

Developer's Corner / Re: Announcing a New Project

Is it a launcher or a configurable, app specific toolbar? Currently, I use Skrommels Barnacle which is very neat.

I have noticed that Explorer's Open with ... also is missing.  :(
It is there on my system here at work. UE 1.4.2 on XP SP2. All the standard Windows context menus are there.
