Give up, Lastpass use AES-256 encryption on your local hard disk so just as safe as Keepass. If browser integration means less risk of keylogger, and it does if you are paranoid or extremely careful, you can argue more. Have not checked but I would think it is possible to disable sync, is not mandatory or necessarily automated. Obviously the great idea behind their service but if you can avoid Lastpass might be acceptable?

Actually it is mandatory and I was thinking about Xmarks ;) Well still encrypted etc. http://helpdesk.lastpass.com/ Anyway, in case of attack main target will not be Lastpass servers but your computer but of course there should be some sort of trust towards them.

177
It is a 180 degree turn from them. Developers should not be locked in to year old optimistic promises but they could easily have made transition easier to accept. There is no choice other than to bend over.

There is a site called lifetimelicense.com or something like that. There a Roboform rep. say "In my 11 years at this company we have never charged for upgrades" blah blah. Without guaranteeing they have definitely sold Roboform on 1 time payment. Now all is changed, accept or find new tool. I would have chosen something in between if possible. Can see 7 is not just a polished 6 and also ok to pay for online sync but too many changes too fast :) Also they are idiots, at least marketing dep. is.

I bet 90% of non-business users would be more than happy with a limited 7, most probably also without any online bank. Feature like log-in to applications is for the few.

Site is Lifetimeupgrades.com - may be a scam but am sure I saw the quote there www.lifetimeupgrades.com I have also seen someone finding their old site in Google Cache where they clearly say "lifetime upgrades". Roboform acknowledge (on twitter) but say that was for older versions ;) New site, new version, new rules. Stupid way of dealing with customers.

178
But is it not weird that cell is in full working order though? Can be fixed so easily? How can Open/Libreoffice remove what must be tiptop protection code? Not worth much I guess.

179
Protection can be removed in Libreoffice 3.3 RC1. Reason is probably this http://user.services....php?f=9&t=34865

180
Nope, not unless you recently bought a 6.x license and get a free upgrade. Those 2 licenses I have are 9-12 months old so since Roboform Online used to be free total upgrade cost for same features is 40$. Because I have 2 licenses I save 5$ for each. Would not be surprised if they mess up payment page as well.

If you purchased your license before September 1, 2010, as an existing RoboForm Pro user you still qualify for a discount on your upgrade for a limited time. To enjoy all the benefits of RoboForm 7, please upgrade your order here.

How long can you wonder about benefits is not clear. Next step must be to make sure 6 does not work with latest browser versions.

Don't have it installed now so can't say if beta will upgrade by itself or need help - but final is out today https://www.microsof...13687a7f&pf=true

182
Strange with ideas of what is safe. Everything of some value to me is in the sky or vault in far away country :) 24/7 worldwide login to both web and normal applications is the way to go. Another new feature in version 7 is it can handle login in to programs. Not sure how great it works but that is probably going to be a major feature towards business clients.

I would guess most do get risks about letting browser auto-remember and insert codes but much in Roboform is also overkill and can be seen as bloat and annoying. They need a simplified version of Roboform, cut down to the bone. Can even take away secure notes, just keep free upgrades from 6.x, 5.x licenses. Ok to charge for online sync though. Majority of those now running to Lastpass etc. would stay and perhaps buy stuff later. They would also live up to very old promises as much as can be expected. Now they are idiots :)

Living Room / Re: Host I Can = Steal I Can
« on: December 16, 2010, 01:33 PM »
From a quick glance at their terms it seems like there is a clear policy regarding suspension. He get 7 days to respond/fix issues or else... He claims he never got a chance to respond and they even deleted all content. That must be strongest and perhaps only point holding water. Rest are not really arguments but comes down to him making a stupid Admin decision based on wishful thinking.

They also have a term about choosing service. If you beforehand or when signing up know you have a high traffic site it is your responsibility to not chose shared server :) That alone can be a problem perhaps. In more words but that is what they mean. They have covered them self many times but should not delete site. Not even in their interest, they just want him more powerful and more expensive server. He should claim valuable content was lost and has been suffering ever since because host went berserk and wiped him out with no option to rectify his mistake.

184
Depends on what you use it for. One of the major new features they hide under "fresh new look" is that secure notes now are usable, "the editor" I think. Very slick with real time search and what not.

7 just made Roboform too expensive. Older versions were sold on "lifetime" updates/upgrades, you also got the online account for free. Not so any more. New business model with yearly fees, typical "for this version" upgrade policy and they are screwing over those who recently paid for 6. Only go back a few month for a free upgrade. If 7 "suck" or "is not worth it" I think change of license has much influence on that opinion.

"after all four years of shared hosting for $78 is a banging deal" is the real problem, his own. Another thing is the TOS he was under. He does not say much about that. He can be pissed all he wants, does not help much if he violated TOS. Such hosting deals can typically be nulled in a flash if that was the case. Does not have to be traffic, too high cpu usage is enough. Should they promise unlimited bandwidth there will be something like "unless traffic hurt performance on shared server" - which it will ;) Don't think it is typical to delete content during suspension though. He should still have access to ftp and database but if they really did delete stuff so he could not even upgrade = not in hosticans interest, he probably have agreed to that as well when signing up. He will need a good lawyer to get anywhere.

He is a fool with strong opinions so not easy to move. What I can do is take advantage of him. He will pay 20$ for BitDefender and be happy :) Ok deal for him, better for me.

I honestly cant see a single positive feature about Aurora, subtle is the last word I would use to describe fixed slow working presets for basic image manipulation any online editor can do, not to forget Picasa. But good there is something for everyone in that package.

I did not think much of this offer but a friend wanted to buy Bullguard which use Bitdefender AV. He will not use free security software. I managed to convince him BitDefender AV would be better, less is better for him ;) Thanks to those idiots at Roboform I needed Lastpass and have always wanted Earthdesk just because it looks coole so went ahead and bought the package. Have not installed all of it but as far as I can tell there are no special limits to licensing. No Giveaway small letter crap.

Can say so much that Aurora sucks (seems to be a big Adobe Air program) and that the apparently long due upgrade of Postworkshop will be free to existing users. Tuneup Gold is a lifetime license as are Screen Calipers + Screen Protractor (if you buy this week that one is free). Movavi, Earthdesk not, typical minor updates free, major not. If you look up Earthdesk on Youtube you find a couple of reviews, how it is, but the smart real time change of settings they do on Mac is not possible on Windows. Tray button is little use so less easy interaction. What I think some will go WOW about.

Be careful about downloads. Some of them seem to be available from Avangate only. Like the fonts, Movavi, I think 1 more. There is a limit of 3 download slots. Site for those fonts is here btw. http://www.softmaker.../english/hand_en.htm now Bitsdujor FORGOT to make easy to find LINKS! Those slots made me think they made special constructed exe files = limitations but so far I cannot see any.

Living Room / Re: What the heck has happened to Google search?
« on: December 06, 2010, 01:51 PM »
Does not work that way in all languages so they are testing again :) Do we sense a buzz or not?

I think left sidebar is best thing ever since it tells people who think Google is a phonebook that there is more to it. Make an effort in search terms etc. or get generic noise, up to you. Helps a bit with Advanced search page but how many can be botered? All automated/intelligence stuff is crap and only encourage lazyness and more of the same thinking/searching/results. Making use of ones web history is ok though. Instant search and this auto approved suggestion is not good.

Good link rxantos. Hope you read it all or you have been tricked :)

Closer to the real world with nice kick at those stupid newspapers. He know it is the same money and clicks fight is about. Clash of interests, zero to do with consumer rights or anything. Some prefer Microsoft, old newspaper methods, anything non-Google because it is trendy - others prefer Google world. Be careful who you join hands with :)

If you step back from the rhetoric, the political jockeying, the concerns that Google is just too big so let’s use any argument to stop it — if you logically think about this argument from a user perspective — it makes no sense.

If you missed his link at bottom Google has responded to the hunt http://googlepolicye...pean-commission.html

Did not see you mentioned Itunes. How can you want a simple snatcher and then consider that one. Is a monster and overkill. At least also consider Miro once again. Not that intrusive and has become more stable with 3.5. I use it for both podcasts, video stuff, rss feed from torrents (ooops). Use an internal VLC to play, can it get any better? Dont let start page with video search annoy you too much. I particularly like the auto download and auto cleanup features. Nothing to mess with, just works.

There are some stupid things in Miro though. Browsing features are limited and studpid though it has full access to Firefox/Xulrunner. Wants to be a "Media" thingy but not really the case. Even Winamp has better integration of features most would expect in "Media" something. But may be also why it qualifies as simple. Possible program has an identity crisis.

I was close to using Itunes recently since a podcast was ONLY delivered through that. Found a evil rss -> real rss converter which works great. http://picklemonkey.net/flipper/

If you try it out but find that it cannot close database files or open them, you will see a popup, exclude them in your AV. Have had that problem a couple of times.

Does add to his string of articles, will be linked to later, so make sense. EU investigations will not go unnoticed since he believes they back up his crazy translations of problems.

But may be more interesting to list what exactly Google is stealing/preventing you from/forcing you to. That is what he is hinting if not saying out loud. Also how that non-Google internet world would look like. Why would it be better? Some must have more understandable arguments than stating the obvious side effects of running such a business, ignoring freedom of choice like you are a kid and Google candy, or oh no, I have written all those articles while using more and more Google services - I must write a new article about this problem. And remember to mention I now use Iphone4 which is something completely different in my little tech-world. Also I must mention that Facebook is probably worse so all understand my huge dilemma.

I would not have big hopes for EU to learn Google a lesson. Microsoft has some sweeeet deals with most computer makers, why we got all those Windows. And as Apple, Adobe and others they practically do communist trading with their stuff to students, business with volume licenses. Close to freeware. Many complain when they get free stuff right? Market place is raped and they misuse their size to screw competitors over. They were told to let "people" tick a browser off and something about a Media player no one cared about.

Some old news paper dudes will probably agree with you. So they can control market in a more peaceful way. Many happy victims disagree. They feel "compelled" to disagree is a better way of playing with words :)

May be you already have it installed. VLC. Not sure it is useful for more than may be 25-35 entries, or I cant figure out how to make folders.

Time to remind your self that only about 30% of world population has access to internet. So 70% are free and happy. Not more twisting argument than he does :) How old is he?

General Software Discussion / Re: Outpost Security Suite Free
« on: November 30, 2010, 12:22 AM »
Tech sites and technical software is a strange combination. They love to highly recommend in their "reviews" yet give no information, leave out information, misunderstand information because they know too little and cant be bothered to find out - since they will not come off as too technical to their core user base. If people can sniff a giveaway around the corner nobody complains, is probably not wise either :)

This might be interesting to inform about http://free.agnitum.com/learn-more.php or a quote from a moderator saying

The free version is an inducement to obtain the pro, not a replacement.

more so since Agnitum have the idea this is the first free SUITE.

General Software Discussion / Re: Windows Live Sync Alternative?
« on: November 28, 2010, 03:03 PM »
Not what you asked for but I hope you test and report back ;) Gbridge http://www.gbridge.com/

To get you interested a quote from their forum:

I got to gbridge because I was looking for an alternative to microsofts live synch which no longer supports xp. It would be nice if there was a simple way to setup two synch. I got it to work relatively easy but it seems odd to have to set it up in both directions. Would be nice if you could just click a button for two synch.

Close but close enough? May be the closest you can get.

If on XP Malwarebytes wants you do exclude their stuff http://forums.malwar...018&#entry181018 Besides such official recommendations I dont know any. Each program can have special problems, like Avast which excludes Firefox Session files http://forum.avast.c....msg445148#msg445148 Latest version still has that entry (and still not in effect if you move profile folder to alternative location). MSE forum should have such info. I would guess they recommend no tinkering at all.

Kaspersky has some https://support.kasp...e/tech?qid=208280767 Taken from a MS kb about AV vs. "Enterprise" computers http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822158 May be MS own AV is aware of this?

I have had problems with another AV and Miro Media player/center thingy. Had to exclude folder with database files or they would corrupt. Process Monitor reveals all activity, filter out MSE process http://technet.micro...ernals/bb896645.aspx
