Living Room / Re: New iPad owner. Please suggest Apps.
« on: April 11, 2012, 12:32 AM »
phitsc welcome to the apple club :D

I use a number of apps listed above by nosh. One, in particular, that i highly recommend is AirVideo... in addition to streaming videos *from* your Mac/PC to your iPad, the recents version can also stream the output *to* any Apple TV that connects to the TV.

Deo: you best bet is to get one of those jailbreak dongles (such as the E3 Flasher that I have, costs $20) and upgrade the PS3 to 3.55 then jailbreak.

You will have blu-ray and tons of additional features (via third-party apps) including OtherOS.

There're a lot of dongle dealers on psx-scene.com.

Living Room / Re: NAS Recommendations?
« on: February 29, 2012, 05:27 AM »
For anyone live in Australia, a great deal has come up from Harris Technology and is available till March 1 AEST:

http://www.ht.com.au/part/AA927-NETGEAR-ReadyNAS-NV-RND4000-v2-NAS-server/detail.hts

Please note this is the upgraded v2 from the original RND4000, essentially the same unit as the one listed on Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-RND4000-200-ReadyNAS-Diskless-Network/dp/B006427IY4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330514497&sr=8-1

For AUD $248 this is a steal. And one additional big plus for this unit is it supports 3TB drives! So you can have a 12TB NAS for just $248, WTF!

Just ordered it myself from the link above, and it will be my ninth 8TB-12TB NAS appliance. I'm not affiliated with any of the above companies above, just wanna share this great deal.

Not too certain about FAA rules but it's probably a US thing.
-lotusrootstarch (February 11, 2012, 08:17 PM)

Yeah. Sorry. I forgot who I was talking to. For some reason I was thinking you were from the USA.

That said, these iPads are to be used for the USA military, in which case 40hz may have had a point:

Unfortunately, the FAA will not allow them to be switched on while the plane is in the air for fear they may interfere with aircraft's flight instruments. hahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!  :P

This is just dumb. Like prohibiting mobile phone usage in the gas station, as if it'd rly trigger an explosion.
