The main feature of my request was that different scans could be run each time instead of all together or requiring manual alterations.

But thanx for the links lanux128 & jgpaiva.

It appears a program doesn't need to be set as a screensaver to run when the computer is idle.  It can be run in addition to the screensaver & after a different period.

That's what the xCAT program above seems to do.

Hi guys.

It's important to perform certain maintenance tasks on the computer.  eg:
Malware scan
AntiVirus scan
Defraging drives
ACDSee database scan
Double Killer scan http://www.bigbangen....de/en/doublekiller/
Winamp database scan
other scans

The sheduled can be found via the programs GUI or sometimes Windows' Scheduled Tasks while others.  Sometimes the responsibility to scheduled tasks is on the user.

It is annoying if you are using the computer & a scheduled task commences.  It often interferes so the tendency is to stop or pause it (if possible).  If you stop the task it doesn't get done.  If you are able to pause it you have to remember to resume it (something I forget to do) so I end up canceling it anyway.  I don't want tasks like this overlapping.  My harddrive wouldn't enjoy being scanned & fragged at the same time.

But you can run programs (ie tasks) when the computer is idle.  The problem is you can only setup 1 program at a time to run when the computer is idle on the programs I have found:
xCAT - Program Saver v1.10 http://www.xcat-indu...l/software.php?cat=3
Screen Launcher http://www.bartdart.com/
It would be just as easy to run a program manually than constantly change these programs' settings.

A program to manage these settings would be optimum.  It would run a maintenance task when the computer becomes idle.  It would pause the task if the computer is used again & then resume when the computer becomes idle again.  When 1 task has completed it will do another task from the list.

Am I dreaming?  Does this require some heavy duty cross-program integration?  I would have thought this has been tried before.

Thanx 4 looking.

Hi guys.

Some of the screensavers I have use a lot of memory &/or CPU &/or GPU etc.  I'd like to reduce the strain on my system by stopping & preventing the screensaver from running if the monitor is off.

Also, can Windows tell if a monitor is off at the switch?

Thanx 4 looking.

Analysing the system before & after an install is the wrong way to go.  Total Uninstall would take 10 mins to analyse my system before & after a new installation.  A program that can analyse the actual installation file would be far more efficient.

I emailed DiskKeeper a couple years ago & suggested they add an option to defrag when the screensaver is active.

I never received a reply but when the next version of DiskKeeper came out (Surprise, Surprise!) my suggestion had be incorporated.  I think that's a bit rude!

I have.  My computer is lagging.  I think it's time for a reinstall of Windows.

Thanx anyway.

(It's still a problem that shouldn't occur regardless.)

Interesting.  I use Maxthon which is based on IE so that's why I still get the problem.

Maybe the beginning of the text can be selected with the left mouse button, & the end of the text can be selected with the right mouse button?

I have been using Take Note http://users.forthne...ograms/takenote.html for a year or two.

I thought it was the only program that saved notes in a tree hierarchy & I love it.  It doesn't save pictures or allow you to click links however.

The biggest problem I've had with this program is rearranging the order of notes - It cannot be done.  I would like to rearrange notes by "drag & drop" & simply arranging alphabetically.  Can any of the other programs mentioned do this?

I've always wanted a better way to organise my Start Menu.  If you drag an item on the start menu before it's sub-menu becomes active then it won't actually drag.  This is very annoying.  There is also the problem of dragging between the Current User & All Users if you use Explorer to tidy up.

The download from 1 Hour Software is version 1.2 according to the "About" option in the system tray icon's context menu.

This is supposed to do a similar thing.

http://www.virtualpl...rum=0&thread=737

When I tried it, it became unresponsive after a while but it seems to work for others.

166
Sorry Skrommel, I should have seen that.

After a while this stopped responding for me leaving my taskbar transparent permanently.  I tried disabling it via it's context menu & got this error message:
---------------------------
1.2.exe
---------------------------
Error: Can't load icon.  The current thread will exit.

Specifically: FadingTaskbar.exe

   Line#
--->   190: Menu,Tray,Icon,FadingTaskbar.exe,4,1

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Maybe this is because I renamed the exe?

167
Whoops!

I meant to say:

However, I AGREE, I think the taskbar should only be transparent if no window is maximized.

Skrommel, I think a seperate setting for fading in & out would be best.  Waiting for the taskbar to fade-in so that you can (for example) read the clock is annoying.  The fade-out is very cool though.

168
Great idea!

I've been using NoSleep! for years without a problem.  Though the icons seem to be back to front.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Fewer system tray icons?
« on: February 04, 2006, 08:54 AM »
I would like a program like SysTrayX that can detect when a program's system tray icon changes.

For example I'd only like to be able to see my modem's icon when it has changed from the connected to the "no connection" icon.  I don't need to see the icon that tells me it is connected.

I only wish to see the MSN Messenger icon when the service is disconnected.

etc

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Select Text Using Arrow Keys
« on: January 03, 2006, 09:18 PM »
Hi guys.

Try this.

Select some text by clicking the mouse in the middle of a word then drag to the right.  When your selection gets to the second letter of the next word Windows will automatically select the whole of the first 2 words.  So this "assistance" is of no benefit if you wish to select only the first word, because you must tediously select exactly from the first letter to the last letter of that word.

But, you can double click a word & select that whole word, but this method also selects the space following that word.  Maybe the best method would have been 2 clicks for a word, 3 to include the following period, 4 for a sentence, 5 for a paragraph, 6 for everything?

Anyway I was thinking maybe text could be selected by holding shift & using the left & right arrow keys to select the beginning of the text & selecting the end of the text by holding the control key?

Maybe someone has a better suggestion than me?

FocusAlpha's page says it was released in February.

There is a similar program here: http://www.marcandre.info/focusalpha.php
But it doesn't have the options that TransOther has.
