I have it work by dropping the file onto ImgFloat.exe, but that's all.
With the ImgFloat service running.

How do you start ImgFloat?

your screenshot looks correct... and you're using the default SSC settings, i.e. let it name and save the image, correct?

yes saves with date and time
i use the pop-up dialog

Set the memory use higher.
See if that helps.
+ maybe don't show the quick capture bar
or use it, as it seems to capture quicker then the tray icon, i think...
i use quick capture bar for last active window and it's pretty quick...

Interesting to note here.

I had the same deal as skwire.
I was taking shots of regions in Firefox.
Messing around I saw that F9 brings up this in Firefox.
With ICUP closed -see shot attached-
Closed tabs I think....
Then after a few tries, ICUP started working like it should.
I noticed when it misbehaved, I could take the first shot in Firefox and the second of the desktop and it worked. But not two consecutive shots of Firefox.
And after that it started working normally for some reason.

Ignore this post if needed, :) , I'm just rambling on with what I saw....or think I saw.

I don't see it as the same as a normal region capture.
Did you try it this way?
You can adjust the box width and height by pulling the sides of the red box.

In the preferences, Selection Capture Options, if you set When to use Red Box to Objects and Regions, you will get an easy adjustable red box using Region Capture. It can not be adjusted with the arrow keys, but with the mouse pulling it around, it may be a more accurate capture then using region capture without the red box mode.

I use Windows Live Mail as my default mail handler. That may not matter, but it seems to work well with any app that can send from the default. Using the 'send mail' from any app will fire up the Windows Live Mail "new message" window, and close after you hit send.

Using Firefox along with Fireshot I think I can do what the request is, except for the hotkey. You can do it from the icon at the top of the browser or from the add-on bar. Fireshot will work in IE and Google Chrome.
