General Software Discussion / Lock PC during Boot. ???

Hello,
        people if anyone can suggest me something regarding to Locking PC during the boot process, it would ask for a password or something. I heard about a program that would require a pendrive to unlock the PC during the initial startup. Then give a password.
I had heard about it a few years back, then i never thought my PC would require Locking, but now i see their is a great need for Locking my PC. Hope you understood my problem.
Google would bring a lot of results, but not the one i wanted.

General Software Discussion / Correct the Win7 Boot Menu, add Winxp entry...!!!

Hello folks,
               i have a dual aboot system, C: has XP and D: has Win7, although they boot preety well, i did a XP restore in C: yesterday ( for a test ), now this removed the boot menu and showed Press Ctrl+Al+Del during restart: this would mean the boot entry nor the mbr doesn't exist. 

After restoring an XP image it booted straight to xp, now i want the Win7 entry too in the boot menu. I am assuming the WinXP boot menu can't handle this( it may add an entry but it would not boot to Win7), and the Win7 Boot menu, would install certain files in C: when Win7 is being installed (certain files i noticed), the Boot Menu would show the XP entry as Older version of Windows.

So after restoring the XP image i booted from a Win7 Repair Disc and although it corrected the Win7 entry, and after a restart it would boot only to Win7. I had made a backup of bcdfile from the command prompt using Repair disc. Exporting it has no effect, and i tried the bootrec /rebuildbcd /scanos to and other commands , didn't work. It only noticed Win7 in D:

It was only during the Win7 fresh installation, which would make changes to the Boot Menu, and i have no clue how i can replicate that by using a Win7 Repair Disc or Winpe Disc.

Hope my problem is understood, i tried few things about adding the Winxp entry in the boot menu and add certain files in C: as well, it would add an Windows Xp entry but it didn't show in the Boot Menu during restart it would straight boot to Win7.


Can anyone suggest me something, i have been fondling with this question in my mind for a while.Please help me out.

Living Room / Staple of people from State and Europe !

Hello folks ,
 this is nothing related to program or software issues, all i want to know is that , are their any folks from United States of America or any other country like Europe : would you be kind enough to share your staple diet.
Like i see programs like Discovery , National Geographic and Travel and Living, where they show American people eating bread in many forms and name like hotdogs burger, stakes and dessert where you don't care to remember,
like i am Buddhist and i am from Sikkim (India) a small state actually the second smallest in Sikkim although their are many communities here too, but being a Bhuddist from Bhutia Cummunity our staple diest is rice, morning is fried rice with eggs or whatever remains of the last night supper along with a tea.
During afternoon its Rice, Millet and vegetable or sometine beef meat cooked sometime boiled and served.
Night is the same as afternoon supper.

What would be yours.

General Software Discussion / Visual Basic or Visual C++

Hello again, i am aspiring to be at least a novice programmer who can make a small clock for pc or making some little puzzle game that doesn't require some heavy duty programming skill, all i want to make a single exe programs that could be used by any user.

So far , i just got my head into QBASIC and slowly i want to move up to Visual Basic and then Visual C++, but what i would to know if, i can achieve this by using Visual Basic or Visual C++, lately i got this feeling of sticking just with one programm:  and achieve mastery in one tool of a trade.

So what would you suggest me with to start with QBASIC or move to C++ then Visual C++ and Visual Basic, hell i don't know what all this terminology mean even in theoritical manner.

Can anyone suggest me something to this dilemma.

PS: i already have Express edition which contains Visual C# 2008,Visual C++ 2008,Visual Basic 2008 and Web Developer: so i want to learn Basic now, so would be the choice.

Also i got a copy of microsoft Visual Studio 6, which also contains Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0

General Software Discussion / Checking Bad sector in HDD and ExtHDD

Hello folks, i was trying to recover some deleted Wallpapers in my ExtHDD i was using Active Undelete for this, but Recuva too performs equally good at this, Undelete showes few bad sectors, so now i am realising that i do not have a Sector checking software for this, the one that can detect it and mark as red colour which later on the OS would detect it and avoid writing on that particular bad sector.

Hope my problem is understandable.....

PS:Can someone suggests me some free as well as paid software for doing this job.

Hello Folks ,
            will come directly to the point and that is , i had updated my PC few daysback, and after the updates were done, i culd these folders in my my D:\ when i try to delete it show's something like this( see pic 2).

I know these are just the error when trying to install the residual files.

Can anyone tell me what to do with this file: how do i remove them.

General Software Discussion / Some errors on Defrag and issue with copying to USB

Hello folks i am getting this error  when i try to run the defrag function in WInxp: i clearly remember it was OK for at least 2weeks and suddenly the defrag feature is showing this kind of message.
Can anyone tell what could be the worst reason, i had installed and removed a  lot of softwares may be that could be the reason, can anyone tell what do i do from here:

My pendrive will not copy files larger, something like 1 GB : it would show an error saying that "Cannot find the specified file".
"Make sure you specify the correct path and name.

This error was seen when i used to insert my pendrive to my friends PC: and that message would prompt me with this message , i believe its some registry value that needs to be tweaked, i have a 8GB pendrive and i want to make full use my drive when i am at his place:

So like : can anyone show me the methods that will help me fix this:

General Software Discussion / Can anyone tell me how to extract or see the Mac Keys used Win7 Professional !

Hello folks, is their anyway i could even get a little peak of MAK key being used in Win7 Pro: one of my friend has a system having WinPro and he  used a MAK key to activate that copy, and i asked him if i could use that MAK key , since he too had his PC installed by some fellow, who used the Genuine keys to activate the Win7 copy.
I was wondering could someone or user be able to extract  the MAK key, i know it is valid only for some certain point , if their was a way to see it in the  Registry entry, sorry for having posted too many threads.

          i already have WinXP installed and i want to install Freedos in my second partition or logical drive. I know it has to be FAT32 formatted and only would the setup would proceed .
But what, i would like to know is: would i need to edit the bootini file in win XP .

Any suggestion is greatly accepted.

Helllo folks , this is another query :

 u see i have installed Win7 on my Second partition and for some reason my xp partition is not able to boot properly and now i have restored my xp partition from clonezilla which made my win 7 boot manager to be lost , i tried using the win7 boot disc and used these commands but was not able to restore it......
i initially used this command to backup the bootini of win7 (i.e., when i used from Win7 Boot Disc):

[Select]

bcdedit /export backupbcd.bcd

but after the restoration of winxp then using this command  didn't work (i.e., when i used from Win7 Boot Disc):

[Select]

bcdedit /import backupbcd.bcd

(For this which i believe was lost in the restoration of winxp )



I also used this command but couldn't get this command to work:

[Select]

To do this, type the following commands at the Windows RE command prompt:
bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd

=====================

So now i am on Winxp partition and my Win7 partition is untouched and only the boot manager is absent, can i use the Win7 Boot Disc to restore the win7 boot manager: hope my query is understandable,,,,,,

General Software Discussion / Error message when i restart my pc

Hello folks, i am getting an error when i restart my pc i.e., ?8?^ Program not found. Skipping autocheck.
       
          I know when i had used DiskKeeper lite and i used it couple of times, and after i had uninstalled and then when i restarted i have been receiving these messages, i don't know what to make of it.
                 Is their any way to remove this error messages from my PC................

Hello Folks, recentlly i tried Ubuntu skin pack v3 and after that my system tray moved upward,the wallpaper and the default startup changed to Ubuntu 11.04: please see the snapshot, i really like this way, only if the system tray stays that way:(Exluding the wallpaper , icons and the text ) after uninstalling this the system tray moved to its default position, what i want to know is that is their any freeware software that can do this.

General Software Discussion / Restore Ubuntu's 11.04 boot manager after installing WinXp

  i have installed Ubuntu 11.04 and i installed it in second partition and everything went well , during the boot process its Boot Manager ie., GNU GRUB  version 1.9~rc1-13ubuntu3 did recognise the Microsoft XP Pro (on/dev/sda1) on the last line the first being Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.38-8-generic .
     
      So what if i happen to reformat my XP partition  would that make the Ubuntu's boot manager useless does it , if it does then is their any safer way to do so properly ,i want  XP Boot manager to recognis Ubuntu's entry: i can do that by editing the entry in the boot.ini but would that make the Ubuntu partition to boot properly, since it is uses Ext 4 journalizing system, i can't see that partition when i am in XP, that's ok with me.
     
      Does or can any one give a nice suggestion with this, it would be a tremendous help.


P.S: I restore my PC more than i fix my PC if their are some nagging issues, since after installing UBUNTU , when starting the PC it will first show the Ubuntu's boot manager and their is an entry of Win xp, what would happen if i reformat my first partition would that effect the second partition where Ubuntu is installed.

General Software Discussion / Some dll errors

Hello folks i recently deleted somesoftwares and ran a portable version of different porgrams and while doing so Avira anitvirus detected msiwvm32.dll as a virus and it deleted it.

But after doing so after the system restart it would prompt as error loading msiwvm32.dll .

I can't figure it how this happened and where can i get this dll file and place it in its c:\windows\system32\ folder: anyone can me.
I do not want to restore my PC just because of this issue.


My system is running without a problem even with this error or is their any way i can make this error not show during the system startup.

Although i have been  using Dopus for few weeks and although i am not a great fan of it or any other explorer for that matter but once in a while i realize its great to have them, so i install Dopus 10 and one thing i am really bothered is the way i want the folder of any drive to look the way i want i.e., File View in List and Sort by Types and i want this setup to be permanent in every folder i view and next time i logg in the PC or Restart the PC i want Dopus to remember that setup can i do that also the icon in the Tray icon is really bothering , i.e., when i want Dopus to exit the icon sits in the Tray icon, please see the picture.



Although i would like some suggestion as to which versions have been well durable and stable in all these releases of Dopus.

General Software Discussion / Where do i find the SATA Controller !

Hello folks, i  need some suggestion here . U see i want to install Win2000 in a SATA HDD and i later came to know it requires SATA Controller. I have Win 2000 Sp4 Retail CD, i plan to do the installtion prior to 2000 Installation maybe integrate it in the CD itself.
    So somewhere i read CPUID would show  the SATA  Controller. I got the snapshot : is this the Controller i should looking for.

  This is the first time i have tried to do this. Any suggestion from any fellow dontioncoder would be great.
   
After rrunning Belarc Advisor it showed the Controllers as:
Standard floppy disk controller
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 27DF
Intel(R) 82801GB/GR/GH (ICH7 Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller - 27C0
Primary IDE Channel [Controller] (2x)

General Software Discussion / PING archive not able to delete 10 GB

Hello folks,
            yesterday i tried to make an image of C: by using PING (Partimage Is Not Ghost) 3.0: When it asked for the archive backup name, i gave it as Another_XP_Image_after_the_trash.
                   The mistake i made was naming the folder archive ending with a dot .:
    So i tried making another image by the same name, PING gave the option of overwriting which i choose it.  After the process was complete the folder had consumed 10 GB filled with archive.

 I can't get it to delete or rename it, deleteing would show an error like " cannot read from the source file or disk": Enter the folder would show this error:

   Is their any one who can suggest how to remove or delete this folder. Any solution for this would: i would remain greatful.

General Software Discussion / Any Software that would record the Activity in a PC !

     Hello ,
                 i am looking for such kind of software that at the Startup of Windows, would record everything i.e., the folder i browsed through
            the program i installed, uninstalled, the site i visited, the amount of time the PC was ON and Switched off. It can be freeware as well as any Commercial  program. 
 
          Lately my PC is being used by friends and, during that time: BSOD occcured at least 5 times a day, although i re-inserted the RAM and IDE snug at its place and that event hasn't taken place, but sometimes a small  bip.... can be heard and the PC stalls : at this time the running program stops responding, then i have to go for a hard reset.
 
            It could be a hardware failure, not to mention this is only 6 months old PC, and i wouldn't know who have done something stupid with the PC configuration ,  hence i was thinking may be a program would run in the background and keep track of all the activities ,  no matter who ever is sitting in front of the PC.


Any suggestion is welcomed.

General Software Discussion / How to update Bootable AVG Antivirus CDUSB

Hello folks i just downloaded AVG Rescue CD – Bootable AVG Antivirus CDUSB, and madea Bootable USB Drive, but i want it to update frequently.

                 And just a scan of c: and found 8 malwares or viruses and some buggies in the desktop like all icon getting selected and the left mouse click working like the right mouse click got cleared up.
                 
      i downloaded  an Updates  From Here:    the file is in u10iavi3771uy.bin format .
   

How to i go about updating the virus definition and keep it to date. I read From herehere it requires DHCP assigned IP addresses. I dont know what to make of it.
   
        Isn't their any complete virus definition package from where i can install it manually.



Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

General Software Discussion / USB Drive shows Write Delay error

 Hello their,,,i have 8 GB pendrive which is hardly 5 months old. When i use this on one of my friends PC, in the processing of copyimg and pasting especially only during copying something from his PC, the Win copy bar get stuck at 1/6th of the process of completion, however if i use the same pendrive in his other PC, it doesn't show anything of sort.
 
I am assuming that his main PC is infected badly, once i had to reformat my external disc (after inserting in his PC)  and restore my backup because of his infected PC i had to format my PC . However if i copy 3-4 BG sometime even 6-7 GB at one go: of video/songs data : it doesn't get stuck or show Write Delay error

Some i am assuming that it has got to be his PC, that is showing its bugginess.

Any suggestion from any person who went through this .

PS: i already checked the Properties /Change Settings/and then the Policies and Quick Removal[/b] is selected as default.

Enable write caching is disabled.

General Software Discussion / Install Win2000 in SATA Drive for a Dual Boot

Hello folks,
                   i wont beat around the bush but i want to install Win2000 for a Dual Boot , my Primary OS is Win xp and i had Win xp Media Center 2005 on my Second Drive i.e, D: , but for some reason i kind of fell its only Xp with very few whistles and bells, plus i can't get it to update it.
         That is no reason but i want Win 2000 in my dual partition and i do know that a user needs to copy backup NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM somewhere like floppy or usb disk. Then after the Boot to Win 2000 a user need to copy/paste these file to Win 2000 D: and then Xp would be bootable from BOOT MANAGER.
                   
But i tried this method but Win 2000 during Setup: Win 2000 doesn't recognise D:  since its a SATA Disc: it does show three partition D: and E: are show as unpartioned or unrecognised and when i proceed to install Win 2000 on D: it would prepare itself to install on C: ( On one occassion i had to quickly resent to prevent complete wipeout of C:) Any Suggestion as to how i would perform Insallation of Win 2000 on D: that too on  a SATA  Disc.

Any help from  anyone who have performed this task: i would reamin greatful.

Hello, folks, i really want to  learn HTML and found lots of articles (free stuffs from the web) and understood a little about it(basics), i was assuming if their was a good Video tutorial or good Web Tutorial that would explain in details and in a systematic way the proper structure to learn HTML in a proper way, the language seems fairly not too tough to understand except for the Java  Scripting part  . That aside i am ready for the amount of time it would take to understand  but can anyone guide me if their is a proper Tutorial material any video or free material not online courses.
