Aw smokes, I did a search, why did I not see this before I posted? :(
Sorry for the dupe.  Mouser, you can erase mine, it doesn't add anything but the misleading tagline, and I totally missed the fact that it was the extension that had the bug, not VS.

Still, it seem somebody at MS or GitHub should have caught this bug long ago.  Is it that uncommon to make private repos on GitHub?

Comic Sans all the way.  Bring it.

I'm Comic Sans, A**hole
...
You think I’m a malformed, pathetic excuse for a font. Well think again, nerdhole, because I’m Comic Sans, and I’m the best thing to happen to typography since Johannes f***ing Gutenberg.

P.S. I'm still looking for a monospace Comic Sans-like in bitmap font format.  To code in.   8)

Laser printers have their own caveats, namely that the toner cartridges can be quite spendy, and you have to worry about the photoreceptor drum as well. but just like inkjets, you can get remanufactured and replacement brands much cheaper.
Pro Tip: Do not buy laser printer cartridges from your local office supply unless you are in a REAL bind.  They can cost you MUCH more than ordering online.

Case in point:  I have a Brother HL-1440 that has served me well for about 8 years now.  It uses the "TN-460" High-yield toner cartridge that gets me about 6,000 pages, and the "DR-400" photoreceptor drum unit that is good for 20,000 pages (YMMV).  Last time I checked all the major office supply stores in my area (there are 4) had at least one toner in stock and only one store had a drum unit.  The toner unit was $103.00
 :o
Their online price these days is about $90 for toner, and almost $200 for the drum if you buy Brother brand stuff, but the R&R brands can be had for almost 20-30% lower.  Amazon and eBay have even lower prices, with OEM Brother stuff remaining about the same, but R&R brands down to $10 for toner and $25 for drums.

I would definitely recommend laser printers if you do mostly black and white printing, but do your research and choose your poison...

Using Windows 10? Microsoft Is Watching

One thing I'm still unclear on is whether or not WiFi Sense will recursively share your WiFi AP info with your friends and their friends and their friends, etc.
...

Just found this:

http://www.zdnet.com...not-a-security-risk/
Windows 10's Wi-Fi Sense is not a security risk. Here's why

Yesterday, tech sites went full Chicken Little over a Windows 10 feature that allows you to share your wireless connection without having to give away your Wi-Fi password. If only those alarmists had actually used the feature first...

YMMV

Just wondering, based on your reviews of Settlers of Catan and Heroscape, if the two could be blended; combine the fast-action gameplay of Heroscape with the simpler map and social aspects of Settlers?  For the record, I never played either, so...

Also, while looking for piecepack, I ran across this:
http://theboardgamedesigner.com
Heard of it?

260
I was reading through Mouser's board game mini-review thread, and suddenly I remembered something I had checked out a few years ago, called "piecepack" (lower case intentional).  It's basically a free (public domain) set of counters/chits/cards/ in pdf form you can download, print, and make up your own rules for.  There is a board where you can browse and download different game rules, and there are game design contests where presumably, the cream rises to the top.  Check it out:

http://www.piecepack.org
What is a piecepack?

Flexible. Portable. Affordable. Public domain. The piecepack is a set of boardgame parts that can be used to design and play a wide variety of games. Anyone may design and publish a piecepack rule set. Any manufacturer or individual may produce piecepacks.

Tom Vasel in the video says the piecepack is best for abstract strategy-over-luck games, but because it is simply an open-ended system, you can make up your own story or theme, or simply make up your own pieces using the piecepack system as a base, or use the piecepack bits as an add-on to other games that may need a little "extra".

How about a 'crust of Pascal devs'?

They're usually thinly layered on top of a deeper substrate, often older and fragile if stressed, but quite stable if left alone.

Two police officers responding to a domestic disturbance with shots fired arrive on scene.
After discovering the wife had shot her husband for walking across her freshly mopped floor, they call their sergeant on his cell phone.

"Hello, Sarge?"

"Yes"

"It looks like we have a homicide here."

"What happened?"

"A woman has shot her husband for stepping on the floor she had just mopped."

"Have you placed her under arrest?"

"No sir.  The floor is still wet."

I'm curious to see if somebody clever reverse-engineers a server so that people can keep playing.  That would only work for people who bought the game in time though, and also who's to say that Steam wouldn't disable the game at the devs request when "the end" comes?
 :tellme:
Or maybe somebody will simply make a clone of the game if the gameplay is that compelling...
 :P

Strange premise for a game...

the-flock.jpg

Gameplay and setting, from the official website:
Description
The Flock is an asymmetrical multiplayer thriller. You get to play as one of the agile hunters that make up the Flock, but your goal is to become the hunted Carrier.

As the Carrier you need to shine your light upon objectives placed in the world in order to win the game; while at the same time fending off Flock that attempt to gain the Artifact for themselves! The Flock are vulnerable to the Artifact's light, but their key to survival is to stand still when the light is shined upon them..

Aahh... but there's a twist:

From VG24/7:
This is how it works, from our understanding: once the game is released on Steam in Q3 of this year, every time a player dies in the game, it will drop the game population. Once that population reaches zero, “the game will never be purchasable again.”

Only players who have The Flock in their Steam library will then be able to partake in the yet to be announced climactic finale.

After the ending, the game will go offline permanently and no longer be playable.

But why?

“A multiplayer game can take players to incredible heights, but at some point gamers will start to play less, get disinterested and stop playing altogether,” said Jeroen Van Hasselt, the studio’s creative director.

“In opposition to other multiplayer games, we want The Flock’s experience to inspire a sense of awe, to keep players eagerly anticipating what is coming next and to end with a memorable climax.”

Sounds legit...

So, when is Facebook going to put their money where their mouth is and ban all the flash based social games on their site?  :tellme:

Good question... and I wonder how casual flash gaming sites like NewGrounds and ArmorGames will do when it is finally killed off?

It was bound to happen.  Even some Lazarus/FreePascal questions I searched for came up with similar questions on StackOverflow.  :-\

In fact, many of my general tech questions I've searched for came up with the most popular answers being similar questions from the StackExchange network, especially since they've added SO MANY categories over the last few years.

He reports he is still alive and kicking, and though I hesitate to reveal more of his situation out of concern for simple privacy, I can say life has taken him in a direction somewhat askew from most things tech, getting more active in music and it's doing his spirit well.  He does miss us all and hopes to soon pop in for a bit here and there, though it will probably be later rather than sooner when he crosses this path again.

I assume you're asking for a Windows solution, but I do have a solution if you have a spare box or old laptop sitting around, and can install some flavor of Linux on it (*cough* Debian *cough*).  After setup, install a sync service like Dropbox or Copy, then install Motion.

http://lavrsen.dk/fo.../view/Motion/WebHome
Welcome to the home of Motion, a software motion detector.

Motion is a program that monitors the video signal from cameras. It is able to detect if a significant part of the picture has changed; in other words, it can detect motion.

It's a command-line program, so it's very light on resources, the sensitivity, snapshot interval time, and snapshot folder location can all be set.  So just configure it to dump snapshots in your Dropbox/Copy/SpiderOak folder, and voila'... remote monitoring.

For Windows, I know WebcamXP was one of the more popular webcam softwares around, and the free version has motion and audio detection.

http://webcamxp.com/home.aspx
News:

webcamXP Free and webcamXP Private now with Motion and Audio Detection. We have decided to extend the features of those 2 versions to allow everybody to put in place home security even with the free version. The only feature which remains specific to webcamXP / webcam 7 PRO is the continuous recording (DVR). A license for webcamXP Private allows supporting up to 4 cameras and removing or changing the webcamXP watermark displayed over the video streams and recordings.

Dunno other than that...
