Post New Requests Here / IDEA : sleep on click, wakeup with Esc
« on: November 18, 2009, 05:56 AM »
I've tried looking through the forum with search for "sleep" but there are really too many references !

What I'd like : to put my PC to sleep with a click on a gui button and then be able to wake it up with the Esc key and ONLY with the Esc key.

Why ? : because with other progs you wake up the PC by moving the mouse -
this is no good for me because either my companion inadvertently moves the mouse when she's on the phone or whatever, or it's the cat that jumps up on the desk and moves the mouse !!!  ;D

Anyone like to have a try please ?

You could also try DragTargets

Circle Dock / Re: Circle Dock v0.9.2.7 is now released!
« on: October 28, 2009, 07:28 AM »

My bad  :-[. When adding code to automatically remove Dock Items for which there is no valid target, I'd completely forgotten that this would also affect (empty) Dock Folders. I've fixed that and refreshed the download - see the first message in this Topic. (This refresh also addresses other problems and includes one new feature: who'll be the first to spot it!?!).

Thanks Markham - I don't think I've spotted the new feature unless there's no smoke without fire ...?  ;)

Circle Dock / Re: Circle Dock v0.9.2.7 is now released!

Is anyone else experiencing this : with v0.9.2.7 it seems to be impossible to add new dock folders, or am I missing something ?

431
Thanks Markham - I hadn't checked the changes !

Hi,
just an idea which may be feasible : when you drag-and-drop applications onto the dock they appear as their file names, e.g. : myantivirus.exe, if you do a lot of this then it becomes a bit tedious to have to open Item settings for each one to change the name : soooo would it be possible to add an option which would wipe the extensions from the link name ?
I hope that's clear ? !!

The scenario : I have a built-in sound card and a USB sound card (with mike and headphones) - I listen to the radio (RadioSure ! - the best) on the built-in sound card which outs to the speakers and I use the USB soundcard for Skype.
However sometimes I would like to listen to whatever is streaming through the browser (K-Meleon - dare I say the best ?) via the USB sound card while leaving the radio on the built-in sound card.

I hope that's clear - so I'm looking for a freeware that allows me to control what goes where.

Thanks in advance... !

General Software Discussion / Re: AccellMan and More now Free
« on: October 18, 2009, 06:29 AM »
I've been using Accelman for quite a time now and once you get used to its particularities, it turns out to be one of the fastest and most useful managers (that I have ever tried, and I've tried most of them).
It's true that it has some quirks and a few bugs but it also has many half-hidden wonders.
Just wish it were still being developed...

Have you tried Universal Viewer - it might work ?

What's the Best? / Re: What's the best Journal (Diary) software?
« on: October 12, 2009, 07:51 AM »
This may have been mentioned before but there is also : idailydiary which is pretty good as a diary.
P.S. I am NOT affiliated with this app....!

PPS yes, sorry it was mentioned - I'm going blind ?

Thanks lanux but I was talking about extensions, i.e. suffixes, not prefixes - however Filesorter will help for other things.

438
Forget it - I found one : FileSort  :-[

439
There are a few threads here about automatic file sorters but I haven't found what I'm looking for : an automatic file sorter based on extension, for example, that would scan a folder or folders, or even a drive, find all PDF's and move them to a folder, even to a new folder called PDF - any ideas please ?

Hi,
not easy to find a one-shot sound maker but maybe you could try these :

Ambient Grains (great stuff !!!)

Ambiloop (perhaps not really what you're looking for)

ChaoSynth (does what it's called)

If you enjoy conspiracy theory then here is some fun :

Facebook and the CIA

Facebook and the CIA 2

@Curt - I don't use FF, I use K-Meleon and VideoCacheView works fine with that. But it should also work with FF, particularly the latest version of VCV.

445
You could try using VideoCacheView - you can not only use it for video but also for audio files.

I must be chicken too - that's why I asked first before trying it myself. Well, maybe not chicken, just wary.

I can't understand some of these arguments about owning music (I'm not talking here about the ethics of downloading or ripping) - it's so easy to record streams to mp3 or other formats, what's the hassle ?
