NOTE:  Sale ends in 6 days !

I hope other folks find deals like these to be of interest, though it is not "specifically" a software deal per se. When I utilize IT training books and/or reference books to help with learning about software, its proper and advanced usage, I tend to feel that there's a useful relationship. That it might also benefit others as well.

It's posted on Humblebundle as, "$565 worth of digital books".
This times the bundle is regarding  Security/Hacking and is called, "Hacking REloaded".
All books are from No Starch Press.

Many of the  books are fairly recent releases. With release dates as recent as 2017, 2016
So the books are not some old , outdated stuff.

This deal came up on humblebundle recently. I also received an email newsletter from them.
The direct link to the offer is:   link to offer

I have their desktop/laptop version. A multi user [family?] license. I've had good success with it so far.
It does find quite a lot of extra garbage that is left by window's and the vendor's, uninstall programs.
Only one minor issue with the desktop version,  there was a licensing number mix up and they had to reissue 1 or 2 new license numbers.

I jumped in on their portable deal when it was available.  Hopefully it will use just the one license number , as it moves from one pc to another. Without having any problems like the other license did.

Hi,

This isn't software per se,  but it is IMHO,  a decent looking set of ebooks on Coding and Programming of software. Along with performing better at your current IT related job. And/Or making the move into the arena of IT related jobs out there. If you are so inclined to do so.

The folks at Humble Bundle have another bundle, that include titles related to Python,Javascript, HTML5 plus other titles for those folks searching for jobs within the IT and/or coding/programming community.

As usual with Humble Bundle, a donation [payment?] of $1.00 gets you the 1st level of books. An $8.00 or more gets you the 1st AND 2nd levels of ebooks. While $15.00 or more gets you access to the entire collection. Levels of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd sets of ebooks [The whole enchilada].

While not for everyone, myself I've normally found enough value in a few of the coding/programming ebooks, so as to purchase the entire collection with the $15.00 or more price tag.

Below is the direct link:
Coding, programming and IT related ebook bundle from HumbleBundle
[Note: I'm not affiliated in any way with HumbleBundle, except being a customer. Nor do I receive any financial gain, from mentioning this offer].

Hopefully someone finds something of value there.

Note: Sale is supposed to only run through Aug 26,2017. (occasionally I've seen software vendors allow their coupon/discount deals to run beyond the stated END DATE, but this has not happened very often with Codeweavers).

ATTN all linux or mac users wanting a decent emulation product, allowing you to run Windoze products on your Linux, and/or Mac computers.

I just received an email from Codeweaver with the following offer:

Codeweaver Crossover for Linux (or Mac) $26, thru 8-26-17

[NOTE: I am NOT an affiliate, nor in anyway associated with, nor receive any compensation from Codeweavers. I'm just a customer, who has bought their Crossover-Linux product in the past and I receive their email newsletters].

I have purchased  a few times from Softmaker.  I use their Office product on several of my PC's [I had the opportunity to buy "One Copy" of MS Office through my employer for like $9.99, but it was only a limit of ONE. Plus, it could only be ONE license; for either a WIN or MAC. I could not buy one of each]  So I used the MS Office on my faster, most used PC and Softmaker's office product on my other PCs]

Their mailing list is one of the better ones to be on.  From time to time they offer some pretty good discounts on their products.

I haven't conducted any extensive, side-by-side, feature comparison between softmaker office and ms office, but for my basic uses, Software office has been a good product.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Softmaker Shop 40% 0ff
« on: August 17, 2017, 05:41 PM »
I notice that sometimes offers from softmaker seem to have **hard-coded discount links, for use only by the email receiptient [**if that is the proper term].
In that, no specific discount code is mentioned, yet the link they send their subscribers of their newsletter takes me directly to the discount offer.
[this happened to me a few times with the Abbyy Finereader program, when it was offered in softmaker newsletter emails,  several times in 2016 for just $39.95.
There was no obvious "Discount Code" embedded in the link they sent, so it was most likely obfuscated somehow in the sales link.].

Regarding Soda PDF, I got V7 a year or 2 back and have used it on my main laptop for printing online receipts [vs sending to a printer and killing trees] and saving copies of webpages [though I know better programs exist for saving a webpage and it's "look" and "data", on a specific date in time].

I haven't been a hardcore, look-under-the-hood-to-see-what-it-can-do type of user.
Just create PDFs , read and/or open, modify PDFs.

In that regard it is about like any other PDF creator program.
I do like the fact that if I create a PDF, it is smart enough to gather data from the PDF to automatically add a title to the file, right before I click the Save button.
[I've had a few PDF programs that wanted me to type in my own file name and that became a real PITA].

For me it's a basic, no problems yet, type of PDF program.  But then, I am not a PDF poweruser.  I  can't say it has bells and whistles that other PDF programs don't as I have not done any side-by-side comparisons.
It would be nice IF they added the OCR feature to the lessor editions of Soda. I think it is only offered within the highest edition of Soda.

Just arrived in today's email from Humble Bundle.

Several windows software programs. All on a Pay-what-you-want promo at Humble Bundle. Estimated value, as high as $534
At present time, it would appear a $12.00+ donation gets all software in this particular bundle.

SOUND FORGE Audio Studio 10,
Corel Painter Essentials 5,
Corel Aftershots
Corel Photobrush
Soda PDF V9
Magix Music Maker
a 1-year subscription to LastPass Premium,
Windscribe VPN [1-year]
CloudApp Pro,

and more On Humble bundle website, look under GAMES BUNDLE for this offer. Located right below the website's SEARCH box

Note: I'm not sure if this Soda PDF V9 is a perpetual license [without upgrades beyond current V9 version] or  "yearly" type license. I have used Soda PDF V7 and never upgraded.
When SODA PDF V8 came out, online end users complained that Soda PDF had become a 1 year "subscription" model/type license, requiring renewal every year. So I never updated my V7 , as it stayed a perpetual license.

@Curt,

Thanks for the info.  I certainly have a use for something like this.

I have an older version of encase and X-ways forensic softwares.

I noticed these guys also listed several software products that were previously PAID programs, that are now FREE. Might be of interest to other folks here on DC.

As far as I can tell this is the same program as that sold on their website.

A pretty decent help authoring creation software program.

3 versions. Starting at $57:
Today's promotion includes the following 3 version choices:

Prices of each of the 3 versions.

Dr.Explain Regular License v5.4.1030 ($57)
Dr.Explain Advanced License v5.4.1030 ($87)
Dr.Explain Ultima License v5.4.1030 ($117)

Comparison table link [no affiliate link added], Features comparison table shown, just scroll down a bit from top of page

Note: If you intend to order, please review the FEATURES COMPARISON table.
Several report pages are watermarked in the regular version vs the advanced. Also, some features are missing in the regular vs advanced.
Dr Explain tends to neuter the regular version , to the extent a person is almost forced to buy the $87 advance version.
But at 70% off I guess I shouldn't complain.

Software overview [from BDJ]:

Dr. Explain is an automated help authoring tool that produces your choice of output formats - CHM, HTML, online manuals, and even printed documentation. Dr. Explain analyzes the structure of your software's screens and forms and automatically generates numbered annotations for each GUI element - every button, icon, field, menu, and toolbar. As the help author, your job just got a lot easier. All you need to do is add the descriptive text to each annotation to explain each function. Dr. Explain condenses hours of work into just a few minutes!

Please be sure to disclose referral links.

Sorry about messing up this Camtasia sales post.

My above DC post for Camtasia at 50% off  was created from the info I had received directly from an appsumo sales email.
I didn't even think it would have any sort of referral link (I have bought software from Appsumo before, so I'm on their mailing list. )

As far as I know, since appsumo is the website coordinating this Camtasia 50% off sale,  appsumo is the sales processor and the referrer.

I admit I'm somewhat ignorant on the topic of "referral links" and such. I have reviewed the sales link I originally posted and noticed the suffix(?) on the end of the sales URL. (If suffix is the correct term?)
The URL ended with ?rf=emst
I have removed it from my original post's sales link. The Camtasia sales link still works; taking you to the 50% off Camtasia sales page.

(I googled the term "?rf=emst" and several of those search results relate to previous Appsumo sales. I am guessing maybe Appsumo uses that "?rf=emst" to track some sort of sales metrics.)

To the best of my knowledge, regarding referral links, "emst" = Appsumo.

65
Received an email this morning from Appsumo. They are running a 50% off sale on CAMTASIA STUDIO.

Camtasia Studio link at appsumo

There is a price disparity, so Mac users pay $49 and Windows users pay $149

Camtasia Mac for only $49 (reg $99).

Camtasia Studio for only $149 (reg $299).

Supposedly the reason is:
Quote:  (Price difference is due to extra features like quizzing, screendraw, and edit presets on the PC version.) Unquote

This is for the latest version of Camtasia - Camtasia 8 for PC (or Camtasia 2 for Mac)

General Software Discussion / Re: Fake equivalent for Windows
« on: June 25, 2016, 05:49 PM »
A few that come to mind:

1.   Lord of the user interface
About $40 last time I checked, a year or so ago.

2. ubot - 3 versions: standard, pro and developer. Pricy. Starts at about $250 I think.

3. autoit

4. zennoposter - similiar to ubot. A bit less expensive though.

5. G2crowd's listing of automation software:  automation software list and comparisons.

Abbyy Finereader V2 Pro and Serif's Scan,Stitch and Share , both software pkg's for just $39.95 8)

I have received this "Abbyy Finereader" offer like 5 times now, ever since registering a copy of Serif Webplus X6 back in Jan of 2016.
It is apparently a joint venture software offer between Serif & Abbyy .

[long story short]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I bought the older Webplus version X6 off Amazon for like $10, as a retail box  software.
I needed an html program and had used Serif's WebPlus X6 and X7 where I worked.
I registered it and signed up for the serif newsletter.
Been getting some pretty decent deals via serif's newsletter emails, especially this Abbyy offer, ever since.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This Abbyy Finereader OCR deal is the cheapest I've ever seen Abbyy Finereader pro V12 OCR, anywhere on the net. 8)

The offer is two scanning software programs:
1. Abbyy Finereader V12 Pro  [physical disc only, but with free S&H. Takes 1-2 weeks to arrive.]
2. Serif Scan,Stitch & Share [download only]

Just $39.99.Save $100+

sales number to call is 1-800-489-6713
Coupon code to use is :  ABFREw100

Note:The offer is supposedly for Serif software customers, but I'm not sure how strict they are.

They also say a limit of 1,but I was able to order 3 copies by spacing out my orders.

So all my home computers now have Abbyy Finereader v12, for less than the price of 1 retail priced Abbyy Finereaderv12.

Also, serif sells a lot of "previous versions" of their products, normally for $19.99. [originally retailing for $99.99].
A cheaper alternative to the current version and a cheaper way to test drive their products.
Software such as :
  • DrawPlus
  • WebPlus
  • Photoplus
  • Movieplus
  • Pageplus

I'm including screenshots of the offer since the sales link inside the latest serif email offer was hard-coded with my personal customer info [when clicking on the email link it took me to a pre-filled order form containing all of my serif customer info such as my name, address, etc].
Screenshots give details of both scanning programs, the sales 800# to call and PROMO/Discount code to use.

I have worn several IT related "hats" over the past 20+ years:
 PC Tech/Sys Admin/IT Security/Data recovery.
I came across this program a year or so ago. Tried to get the employer to purchase a license to use onsite.

We had so many other diags/cleanup/IT testing utilities that I was never able to be authorized to order this particular one.

Was wanting to try this program out.

Thanks for the heads up on this offer.

70
Something to note on the Directory Opus offer . Their price on the order form, (at least on my order form) showed the price in AUD.
Good news for folks in the USA.
The AUD is weaker than the USD.

I priced out the 5 user package. The AUD price on the order form is like AUD 174.
The online currency converter shows that AUD 174 equals approximately $127USD ;D

Good deal for US customers :)

71
Note: Extra 10% discount pop-up was offered when trying to close browser window at ABBYY website !

I found a  couple items of interest, for anyone wanting one or more of these ABBYY products.

1. POP-UP offering an Extra 10% off item(s) in cart:
ABBYY activated one of those "One Last Discount" POP-UPs, when I tried to close their website's browser window (clicking the upper right hand corner X).
As soon as I tried to close their browser window, Up popped a dialog box and it offered AN ADDITIONAL 10% DISCOUNT on the contents of my cart.
(So it wouldn't hurt to try ADDING your items to the CART, then try "Clicking/Closing the browser window by clicking the upper right hand corner's X.
I let my basket set for like 30 minutes before trying to close. Not sure if that determines if you'll received an "additional 10% off discount" Pop-up or not).

2. The reason ABBYY offers a BUNDLE consisting of Finereader AND PDT Transformer+:

You can only add ONE discounted item to your cart and get their advertised discount.

When I tried adding the FINEREADER 12 and then adding the PDF Transformer+ as 2 separate cart entries, one of the 2 cart items would TOGGLE BACK to its FULL price !?
Yikes. >:(  Now I see WHY they offered the "Bundle" option when I first selected Finereader 12. The BUNDLE option WILL go into the cart without issue, IF you want those 2 particular items.

Hope this helps anyone interested in the ABBYY products on sale.

72
I didn't want anyone to miss out on yet another ABBYY finereader discount, (by just adding this as a reply to someone else's Finereader posting).

PLUS, this offer is for either the Finereader 12 software AND/OR the PDF Transformer software. Their discounts are 40% and 60% respectively.

1. 40% off Finereader 12 for windows.   Now $99 for full and $59 for upgrade.   Windows version

2. 40% off Finereader for MAC  $69 for full, $47.99 for upgrade  MAC version

3. 60% off PDF Transformer  $29.99 for full. [No price difference for upgrade, it too is $29.99 !?]   PDF Transformer

4. Finereader for win & PDF Transformer "bundle"  $129.98   [discounts stay at 40% for finereader and 60% on PDF transformer, they just let you "bundle" both, LAME!]
If they knocked the price on both down to 60% by purchasing this "Bundle" then I'd be all over it.
Anyway, if interested, choose Bundle Options after selecting the windows version for finereader 12 full.]

Happy OCR'ing  :)

73
Went back to try again and noticed the redemption link had TWO sitepoint user account options:
1. create a new user account
2. Log-in to existing account.

I logged into my account, claimed the voucher and now my account toggled to Sitepoint Premium.
No more $99/annual fees. ;D

74
Definitely a great deal if you read a lot of IT related books and/or like to view training  videos about IT topics as well.

My ONLY problem after I bought this deal was that the Appsumo redemption URL takes you to the Sitepoint website, has you create a new user account, then proceeds with the  rest of the redemption process.
A GREAT walk-through for people NEW to Sitepoint.

But......I have had a Sitepoint account for years. I'd like to keep it and would like to maintain only ONE site point account, if possible.

I cannot find any way to ADD the $49 LIFETIME ACCESS deal into my existing sitepoint user profile.
I have trouble-tickets submitted to both Appsumo and Sitepoint.
(I bet they make me create a new, secondary user account JUST for this new, $49 deal).

75
Thanks to everyone for the inputs.

Time for me to sign up for a few more newsletters, to keep up to date on these various software websites.
