Well, at least I'm happy with Cox cable. BTW  I had FIOS when I lived in NY and it was VG, ( upgraded from DSL ) but I don't remember it as being any better than the cable I have now.

There has to be something wrong with these tests.  Here are two from two different servers in GB.  Must have more to do with the servers than with my ISP.

On my machine it both goes to readability and  reverts back in less than a second.  Now I am retired so I have plenty of time.......
I actually uninstalled the add on because I thought it was too slow

33
I've been using it for about 6-8 weeks.  It's great .  I e-mail  articles to friends ( and ememies )directly from the " readability page "
From the readability website   http://lab.arc90.com...riments/readability/    just drag the       READABILITY   to your tool bar ( i use Firefox ) and you are set.

A really great and useful application.  AND  customer service is terrific too !   I had a slight problem ( couldn't e-mail from readability ) I contacted the company  ARC 90 and they answered almost immediately and my problem was solved

I have had a WD  NAS ntfs drive for 2 1/2  yrs.  I run Win 7  home premium
I created a file named     Abc„def”  – ghi « jklm.htm  ( your file name example ) on my C: drive  and copied ( context menu ) to the NAS.
It copied without a problem
I have been using Win 7 for about a year  XP  before that. But I have had the NAS drive for over 2 years with both system without a problem
I use GoodSync and also Cobian Backup without any problems

Cpilot:

I bought a Belkin pad for my wife's laptop.  Puts it at a nice angle .  Speedfan consistently shows the core temps between   25 and 34 C.

She had an old Dell Inspiron 2600 from 2001 or 2  HD  fried . I put in a new HD and reinstalled XP.  Speedfan only shows the HD temp on this one so I tried your  cputemp.
It shows temp of 0 C or 32 F which I don't think can be correct.

now I'm confused  :tellme:

I installed  Speedfan on her computer  .  It reads 26 C  for Core 0
                                                                         29 C  for Core 1

What are the safe parameters ?  I tried googling  " Safe Temps ' and found a range of 20 to 65 C.  Seems pretty big spread to me.

Living Room / lap top cooling pad
« on: July 29, 2010, 07:47 AM »
Are these cooling pads effective ?  My wife's laptop died after 5 years.  Motherboard failure.  It is plugged in  from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM every day.  Would a cooling pad have prevented this ?
I notice that the cooling pad plugs into a USB port - are there ones that just plug into an electric plug ?
If they are effective is there a brand you would recommend ?

Thanks

Barnes & Noble, Amazon and Borders  are mainstream retailers -  and they are the leaders in the e-book revolution

electronic books are a victim of their own success.

A ways to go on that..

Just some very rough figures   Total  Sales of e-books  first 4 months of 2010                                         $117 Million
                                               Barnes & Noble Sales   Qtr ending   May 2  ,2010                                     $ 1.3  Billion of which B & N .com  was $ 191,000,000

Add in Amazon and all the other sellers of books ( Costco, WalMart, Borders  2500 independents. )

Isn't this potentially the same as saying the point of selling cars is to sell oil changes, tires, air fresheners, etc?

Well,  think about it.  Every time you go to buy a new car the second thing the salesman says to you is " Our service department is world class. "  Then he ( she ) takes you to meet the service manager. Why ?  Cause that is where the money is .  HP  sells printers for low prices ( and has low margins ) so they can sell INK at high margins.  HP  gives away the printers to sell high margin ink.

And if not semi-open, then able to use open standards.
I agree that there will have to be one standard for all readers (  See Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD ) before e-books become really mainstream.  Also, at present you are really just " renting " the book.  You can't loan it, sell it or donate it. That will need to be addressed also.

Could be  ... but it is my view based on my experience in retail.
You only buy ONE reader ( game console, razor. cell phone )  etc  you potentially buy 100's of games, blades, software, and air time.
