Question relating to Windows 10

Is there a way to run the program in "Program files (x86) and sub directories and get it to work there?

Currently, it does nothing (i.e. doesn’t give you an error or anything).

Thanks

skrommel,

Thanks for your valuable suggestion.

I have found a utility called View and renamer which opens up the files you specify, you input a new name, and it then creates renames the old file to the new file name. This is a bit more long winded, however it meets my requirements. The link to the page is :-

http://www.neosoftwa...php?cid=8&lid=68

Thanks

Thank U VERY MUCK, much appreciated.

rjbull, thanks for your valuable input so far, however I have the following question:-

The fact that I use the code lmod /L5 [$!] < temp.txt, I have several temp files and if I run the command several time, will it not just override the file? I need to be able to append to the file.

The file is created by using Crystal reports.

The text that is required to be extract will always be on say line 5. There is a date at the end of line and therefore if there is a way to extract text from line 5. The delimiter should be say 3 continuous space.

How would LMOD input cards look like?

Thanks for you input so far.

I have had a look rjbull recommendation, and not been too techie, I am finding it hard to work out how to do it.

If anyone can give further assistance of LMOD, then this would be appreciated.

As a short term measure, I am going into the PDFs extracting the required description, closing the file and renaming the file all manually.

Coding Snacks / Re: Idea for a simple program !!!

have a look at the thread here

I have a lot of PDF files called file001/002….. (100’s of files), all 1 page documents.

Is it possible for some code that would open selected files, extract the description from the next line after the word Remittance and save the file with that name? Please note that there is a date format dd/mm/yyyy on the same line which is not required as part of the file name.

(e.g. file001/002 opened, the descriptions extracted would be ‘This is the file name for file 001’ and ‘The file name for file 002’,

Therefore file named file001 to be renamed This is the file name for file 001, file named file 002 should be renamed The file name for file 002.

If the files cannot be renamed but can be saved as with the required file name, than this would suffice as well. I am quite happy to delete the files manually.

Any assistance offered would be appreciated.

Excellent list and presentation makes it easy to identify exactly where U need to look.

Keep up the good work.

I would wait a couple of year at least until the majority of bugs are worked out.

How long has XP been out and how many fixs' have they released. I can understand that you need fixs' to enhance the product, but the thing that annoys me is the number of security threats that they seem to be plugin.

I seriously hope that they have learned from the security issues and at least visited them in the new version.

Additionally, by waiting a couple of years it will allow new programs to be availabe which will run on 64 bit and hopefully be time to upgrade to a better processor.

That my pennies worth.  8)

I read a few weeks ago that this series was going to be awesome.

I unfortunately missed the first part, but when I watched it yesterday, I was absolutely gob smacked at the scenes of the snow leopard.

BTW at the start of yesterday show they commented that they had 9 million viewers to the first part.

Twmailrec

Thanks for your prompt.

I have had a look at the Site for the product you mention and notice that it is quite expensive.

I also notice that the product does not offer a trial version. I don’t really want to pay for something and then find that it does not met my expectations.  :'(

Thank you for taking the time in pointing to the S/W.  :D

Ladies and Gentlemen:

I think I have stirred quite a bit of interest.

 Firstly, thanks to all for their constructive comments.

Secondly, I will address the comments individually: -

Skrommel – I understand your concept, however I would prefer to have a program that allows drag and drop that does all the background work.

Baseman, Black Mamba, I am aware that Ghost and Acronis Migrate Easy would allow copying to another drive once an image has been taken. However, the comments Nudone are spot one. I am not just after migrating to a new disk (I probably will do that), but ultimately I want to be able to move a program from one drive to another.

Nudone, your observation of what I am asking for 100% correct.

Mouser, I will have a look at the program you have recommended. From reading the documentation and looking at the screen shots it seems to be just what I want, I note that there is a charge of $15 for a single user. I will see if they have an evaluation copy that I can try out and If available will try it out over the next few days and advise. (Does this forum get a discount?  ;)  ;))

Lanun128, Thanks for pointing me to COA2, for me to try it out I have to subscribe to a one-off fee of $5. I am not willing to do this, as I would prefer to try out an evaluation copy to ensure it is what I want.    :(  :(

Db90h, thanks for assuring me that there will be not performance issues. I note that you say that not only will it do folders but also volumes. I think the volume aspect is an excellent idea, as it will allow people to move their operating system to another drive and avoid the re-activation process. I will try out your alpha version and send you a PM with any comment that I may have (hope you are OK with this).

db90h

Look forward to it.

Thinking out aloud, I am assuming that the linking will not cause any performance issue?

I have many programs installed on my C drive, which unfortunately is getting rather full.

I have a secondary hard drive that is quite large, and I was considering moving programs from C to F.

However, the problem I am faced with is two folds: -

Firstly, I have misplaced the serial number for a lot of the S/W and therefore uninstalling and re-installing to the new drive is not an option;

Secondly, my moving programs from C to F will cause all the Registry and Desktop icons to fail as the programs have been physically moved.

Is there a program which will physical move programs from one drive to another, update the registry and lastly change the shortcut/desktop shortcuts to point to the new place on the new drive?

Your assistance would be most welcome.

 :) :)

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Multi program update scheduler
« on: February 08, 2006, 08:52 AM »
I have various Anti Virus programs and Spyware programs that once I logon, and dial up, I will systematically go and check whether there are any updates for them. If so, they are allowed, if not, then do the next program.

Wouldn’t it be nice if somehow a program would allow these programs or indeed user specified programs to be put in a list and then systematically check for updates?

I am assuming that some form of Key Stoke logger would be required to simulate key depression to allow the next action of the update to continue!!

Anyone know of a program or is it possible to do this?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I have been using this utility for about 6 months and would say that it is MUSTARD .

The times that I used is to rename a large number of photographs.

I have used other rename utilities (cannot remember the names as they were not up to scratch), and this one beats others hands down.

  :up:TOTALLY RECOMMENDED.
