Circle Dock / Re: Clock
« on: March 23, 2009, 06:54 PM »
I have a couple of days before I go into surgery on Thursday (for my knee), let me see if there is a rabbit to be pulled here.

I can not guarantee anything, but I would like to know myself :)

Circle Dock / Re: What's the latest version of circledock?
« on: March 23, 2009, 06:52 PM »
I want to say that it is.
VIP's last log was December 2nd.
His last Post, he states that he is dealing with life stuff

I have been attempting to contact VIP for a couple of weeks now, but have yet to receive any news from him.

Sometimes we all need time away.

I do not believe that VIP has abandoned us completely and I firmly believe that he will return to his projects in the future.

Keep the faith folks. I am

As of this posting, you apparently have the latest version.

Windows 7 is a 64 bit environment, and a beta.

My immediate guess would be some incompatability, maybe a mouse driver not properly loading.

These are all guesses.

If I am reading your post correctly; it will work sometimes?

Let me know, I will see what I can do.
Otherwise, it iwll be a kick to VIP when he returns.

Screenshot Captor / Portable?
« on: March 17, 2009, 06:00 PM »
Hello Mouser.

I have found a couple of other sites to download a portable version of Screenshot Captor, but I wanted to know from you their legitimacy?

Is there a version of Screenshot captor that is portable, or is there a version of this application that i sportable directly through your self?

Lightscreen is leaving me PO'ed, but I find I enjoy utilizing Screenshot Captor

Thanks in advance.

PS. I have not heard from VIP as of yet. Still trying though

A little help here.

I am looking to see if there is a seting, or something, that can be turned on to show total size, free space, and Percent full for all drives in Vista.

Please refer to image:
Screenshot - 3_16_2009 , 3_00_33 PM_ver001.jpg

I am trying to get the information shown for the Harddrives to appear for removable storage, mp3 players, and external Harddrives.
I do not even know if this can be done.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

True, this is not going anywhere, But all I am seeing here is a program run, but what You are running, how many processes, how often do they refresh, are you remote controlling any other programs?

I could pause Or close my configs and give the same number, besides, if your program is running, you are going to show something.

Are you trying to tell me that Samurize uses no resources at all?

I could pull the same thing from Process explorer.
How many meters and controllers are you running from Samurize and on what time cycle?

And you are absolutely right, I do not know much, but like the transmission on a car, I know enough to take the car to someone that does.
Using this analogy, does it not make sense to utilize a program that is easier to understand and intuitive?

So all I can assume is that the program is running no configs

Update here:
Below you will find a copy of the process explorer. You can clearly see that there are process running, as demonstrated by the desktop image in the prior post.
Now look closely you will see there are 2 Rainmeters running. One of these is Rainbar.
Again this is with 22 configs (19 meters, and 3 controllers) running, and I will note for you that this is also at peak cycle running a winamp remote.

When Idle, due to my update cycle, Rainmeters resource use combined is less than 1.4%

If Samurize is actually doing anything, it can not do it without utilizing resources.
Come on, this is Pre-101 computer stuff

At least there is something clearly running here:
Screenshot - 3_16_2009 , 1_38_28 AM_ver001.jpg

Actually the fact that you use Samurize is what I consider a good thing, it is not for me. I realy like Rainmeter, and I wish for it's revival.
I worked with Samurize for several hour, and it left me feeling confused and disoriented. With Rainmeter, I took to it like a fish to water.

This is what this poll is here for.
I placed my beliefs and findings to the public, in the hopes to find what others were using and why, and what configurations were available, I unfortunately found just one person who was not in the mood for debate, but was looking to out right disagreement, confrontational if you will; based on what?

If you feel Samurize is better, then show us, and tell us, debate with us, but do not argue a worthless point.
I want to learn, and I would hope that others do as well

I know that in many ways Samurize is superios, and for the average person, it will be great, but for folks like me, I want more, and apparently Rainmeter gave me that.

658
Anything over 3.5% for this type of software, on this type of computer, I consider bloated. Now understand that I am running 2 instances of Rainmeter and using nominally less than 5%. The very act of Samurize is somewhere from 3.7% to 7.8% in idle. Samurize at one point would sometimes hit less than 1%, but I have seen no evidence of this as of yet, in current builds.

Now if you will refer to the attached image:
I have 22 "free floating" configs that I can place anywhere I want.
I have seen  no evidence of being able to do this with Samurize.

What I have seen of Samurize skins, is that they are over customized sidebars. All items must be attached to that customized area. The various meters can not be made independently of each other, and must be based to a single running Config.

Now I am not saying that what you have listed here is incorrect, I am saying that I have seen no instance of being able to do anything like what I have on my laptop using Rainmeter.

Understand each meter is it's own config in Rainmeter, and although you can build customized area and place several measurement tools in it, you can also make independent meters.

Now understand I did not allow my meter to go completely idle, so look again and you will find all the meters, the Rainbar, Winamp, and it's Rainmeter controller, as well as a bloated version of Firefox, that has over 60 plugins, and it is set to reload this page.
And I am using about 10%
Also keep in mind that this is a none stripped down HP G50 series laptop

Do the math, and you will find Rainmeters footprint much smaller.

If you can run multiple meters independently and place a custom build where you want, similar to the HUD Vision I have customized here, I would very much like to see it.

659
And it still is, for now

I got hit with one very important fact, make that 2.

With Samurize you are limited to one config at a time. What ever custom design you make will be limited to the board that is created. If this works for you, then great. I prefer Rainmeters ability to make and place multiple configs anywhere I want on my screen.

The second thing I found is that Rainmeter can use significantly less Processes than Samurize. Something about the new Samurize can take up 42% of the processor, when you utilize remote software controllers, under Rainmeter, I am using far less than 10% even with the Winamp controller, Which uses the most processes.

Now I will grant that Samurize is more stable, but it's current stability does not make up for the other facts in my opinion.
I want to say there is an issue with the last update(s). Samurize is becoming a bloated piece of software.

There is now also the fact that there is movement on Rainmeter. Understand as of the post that you reference, the production of Rainmeter was in question. I have had a chance to communicate with Rainy and the folks that have Volunteered to advance Rainmeter, and I think it will be going again, based on all this, I have changed my recommendations, and am hoping that Rainmeter will once again be on top.

Besides, I am looking for a program to kick Samusize in the shorts, just like I am hoping to one day find a free solution that will truly compete with ObjectDock+

Of Course this is all my opinion, but refer to image below (hopefully the shrinkage, did not mess with the quality of the image, very quick work):

General Software Discussion / Re: Heuristic Antivirus

heuristic Only? I do not think so.

But I would look into Spybot Search and Destroy, ThreatFire, and Vipre

As for their documentation, I would suggest contacting the folks at Spybot S&D, as they have always been helpfull to me.

Good luck. :)

Hello Folks

With the advent of so many of these types of software, and the abandonment of several as well, also with the apparent re-interest in Rainmeter. I have opted to start this poll to find out where you folks stand in regards to these types of software.

If you use one or more, then great, how about listing a why and how it works for your, as well as the customization package(s) you use.
if you use one that I have not listed tell us about it.

I am a supporter of Rainmeter, but I am open to suggestions.

Tell us your thoughts, ring in on this one, as I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

I use Rainmeter 0.14.1
Config packs:
HUD Vision
4JL
Dreamline
Enigma
Quicklook

I also use the Rainbar (which is also Rainmeter)

663
Hello folks

I know that there are as about as many suggestions on different metering software, as there are users.

Of all that are available (Avdesk, Samurize, etc).
I use Rainmeter.

After trying numerous others, I just like the options and the programability of the software.

Rainmeter has almost died (in my opinion), but I still use it.

Well apparently Rainy has released Rainmeter to the general Public about a month ago and is looking for volunteer programmers.
More info From The Rainlenar Forum - Re:Development (Don't let Rainmeter die!)

I now use Windows Vista (almost exclusively), and would like to see this software grow.
The latest works to Rainmeter are now being run through Google Code (unfortunately)
the Rainmeter Google Code section can be found here.

There is finally a new Rainmeter Beta (Alpha?) download as well

Since I am no programmer, I am sorry to say that I feel very inadequate to take up the flag on this most excellent and proven software.

I am tossing this into our forum's hat to see if someone, or many, would take on updating Rainmeter to Vista OS compliance and then expanding the software, base.

Trust me when I say; "If you build it they will come", as there is a large community of skinners and customizers (like myself), just waiting for the really good folks with the programming brains to come along and help fix this slightly outdated software package.

The code is publicly available and can be downloaded from The Rainmeter old site

This is my plea, and I hope that there are those with the time to help make Rainmeter great again.

On a personal note I am looking to have Rainmeter kick the shorts of Samurize.

Thanks in advance
SGT. E. V. McKay

O apologize, I have been very busy. I am trying to find out myself. I normally do not use the stack, but I figured I would run it, and see if I can help you out.

Bare with me as the Stack is a new item for me.

Circle Dock / Re: How about swf files?
« on: March 14, 2009, 12:33 PM »
Understand the Clock. I have come across one myself, that I think would be a great enhancement.

have you seen the following page?
http://circledock.wi...ot.com/ideas-mockups

I thought some of these concepts were excellent, and would be great if all of them could be added under different shortcuts, but with the ability to customize.

666
Yes there are others, and yes some may have some more custom items available.
Some may have some security features, and some may have all or none of these.

My personal recommendation is and has always been PotableApps.
Of all the portable applications software and loose communities, PortableApps is the tightest and most supportive.
A lot of portable Beta testing takes place at PortableApps and the finding's are readily available through their forum.

I would also note that most other portable Launchers have a system support for PortableApp's installer.
Well lets face, most of the popular Portable Launchers base their work on what PortableApps has built.

I have never had an issue with utilizing portable software from other resources with the PortableApps Launcher.

As an IT Administrator, and someone who travels a lot, it is an excellent idea to have something.
in the past I have worked at Correctional institution that would not allow a Laptop, but would clear a portable drive.
The advantage of having your own needs to yourself, and leave little to no footprint is invaluable.

PortableApp has always been there for me, and drop dead reliable.

I create Portable Application drives locally for several local Business. A couple of customization tweaks(Company Logo and coloor ETC.), the agreed upon software, and encryption for the stick.
I charge $20.00 plus cost of drive. Having developed well over 1300 of these, using PortableApps, last year alone; well you do the math!
Now understand the $20 fee is for the customization and loading Labor) of the software. I do not charge for portableApps or the software supplied as it is all free. I also offer a years upgrades for an additional $5 (Of which I carry a constant 2700 -/+), this fee is to have the drives brought or mailed to me and I update all the free software, again only charging labor - not for the software. I notify my client of upgrades to software available via e-mail to an appointed contact person.

Now I am guestimating more than 5000 sticks sold to companies over the last 3 years all with portableApps, and all these have one thing in common; No complaints, and no break downs. Atleast on the software end.

I have tested a lot of the Apps out there, and have found many lacking, or they are too much, with little explanation on use, but in my experience PortableApps is the most stable and intuitive.

For all the options available and all the other portable launchers out there, I say go with PortablleApps and you won't go wrong.

On a personal note:
On my 16G OCZ Diesel
I Run Ubuntu, PortableApps, and a good number of diagnostics
So Yes I use it, and I openly support it.

Circle Dock / Re: How about swf files?

Hello videoInPicture, I do not know if you still want to do some updating of CD, but it would be possible to add support for animated swf files in the center button?

I myself do not see why it could not be done, but I will let VIP make a decision on this matter.
the only issue I see is a resource issue. If you do not mind the resources that would be taken by a SWF animation, then no prob, but I hit a point of where I get a little distressed when my objects start taking up more than 10% on standby.

But hey let's kick this to VIP and see what he says. I think it could be nice as an add-on
Would anyone like to tackle this?

I would also like to inform to all guys that StandaloneStack is slow when activated, so I swapped StandAloneStack by DockFolder. Improved much ...

Thanks.

This is great information, if you could add a link to this software, for the rest of us, it would be greatly appreciated.

Also keep inmind that there is a new Stack in development.
You can get more information at:
http://www.aqua-soft...c=51400&hl=stack
Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to beta test this new stacks with CD.
I had hoped that someone will try it, and submit a report to this forum for us.

Greatly appreciated.

Site/Forum Features / Re: Badge/Award Mod Rewritten
« on: March 08, 2009, 02:47 PM »
Hello Mouser

You and wreckedcarzz have been strangers to the Circledock forum as of late, but with everything else going on here, I guess you drop in where you can.

Anyways, I have a suggestion for a badge here, and I apologize if I am way out of line suggesting one.

I am by no means a programmer of the caliber that is listed in these forums, but I and apparently several others, dedicate numerous hours and support by offering software/forum support.
Software support, graphics, and presentations is my bread and butter.
Of late I realize that there a lot of forum goers that do not have the programming skills, but have offered great software support to various software that is offered here at Donationcoder.

I guess: to the point right?

I would like to see a couple of badges or just one that reflects the above.

A badge for forum and/or software supporter!

This badge would not be a self selected badge, but a badge given out by yourself, or what ever controls you have in place.

I think this would be great for those supporters that are doing what they can to support these software/forums, but who can not support by coding or software development.

This badge could also be handed out to developers as well, but would reflect their contributions to software/forum support.
This would allow the folks who are supporting the forums/software in a dedicated and helpful manner know they are doing well, based on others opinions.

I would start by electing wreckedcarzz, as I have found this persons help and assistance to be of great help and sometimes insight.

Let me know what you think

If anyone manages to get in contact with Eric please let us know.

I kicked an e-mail to VIP today, let us see if I can get a response.
Pulled e-mail for contact from a couple of his program pages, so let us see.

Circle Dock / Re: Shortcuts don't work
« on: March 07, 2009, 01:07 PM »
Okee Doke

I have beat this thing around for almost a week now, and I am afraid to say that I have not had the issues that you are experiencing.
Nor have I been able to simulate the issues in Windows XP home, XP Pro, or Vista Premium (32 bit).

In my cases, everything appears to be working as it should, albeit the games take a little longer to start, compared with just hitting the desktop Icons, or going into the start menu.

As I mentioned before I will have to file this in my "damnedest Thing" folder.

I will unfortunately have to defer to VIP in this instance when he returns.

If anyone else is having the same issue, please feel free to reply here and let us know.

If you have worked out this issue, please list what worked for you here as well.

Wish I could have been more help in this instance.
