General Software Discussion / Re: how to make a list of fonts you have
« on: September 20, 2010, 06:07 PM »
Veign's CFont might do the job?

Nope. It can only list installed fonts. I can't install fonts. Not all of them at once anyway. Installing a thousand at a time, listing them, and unistalling them is a long ordeal.

It will browse and display non-installed fonts from a folder.  Its one of the key features of Cfont Pro.

Or in a niche where ISPs have closed access to newsgroups or the newsgroups have closed.  MS is closing all of their newsgroups - should be all closed by now.

Probably some DNS hiccup.  Not sure why this domain has issues.  Had problems with server's blacklisting it for email, problem with my ISP not properly handling DNS lookups.

@Deozaan
I just checked in Chrome/Firefox and it loads and renders as expected.  Anyone else see an issue?

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Open Menu Wordpress Plugin
« on: September 03, 2010, 06:10 PM »

The official Open Menu Wordpress plugin has been released.  This plugin allows you to easily integrate an Open Menu Format menu into your Wordpress site.  This was my first venture into plugin development for Wordpress.  Lots of work was spent on best-practice integration.

Features:
  • Open Menu Post Types
  • Widgets for specials, restaurant location and a cuisine tag cloud
  • Powerful [openmenu] shortcode lets you insert a menu in any page or post
  • Options to control how the menu renders
  • Site-wide settings to ensure your menu fits into any theme

Like everything Open Menu we thrive on feedback.

The first official Open Menu Wordpress plugin has been developed (by me) and released.  This is my first ever Wordpress Plugin and I think it came out great.

Same Request, Same Answer...

61
@mouser - good explanation.  Once I get to the point of moving forward with a JS version (for the same benefits you described) I will be in contact

62
You can't embed content in a DIV from a 3rd party website.

mouser,
Are you looking to get analytics from the page its being embedded on?  Are you interacting with the host page in any way?  Does an iframe version work the same as the more complex JS version?

63
Depends on what is being served up.  For Google Ads it makes perfect sense to provide fixed sizes, nothing more.  If it were a Google Map then offering resizing options is a must.  What it come down to is content being embedded - it should dictate the method.

For a recent project of mine I used an iframe method since it was dead simple to implement.

Sample:
http://openmenu.com/.../embed.php?menu=9529

Basically I made it customizable.  I would rather implement a widget/JS method but time isn't on my side.  Maybe we can compare notes at some point.

65
Time is winding down to get entered.  All it takes is a comment on the blog post.

Pandia Powersearch uses Google's results, by default, with lots of ads.  Its a junk website that doesn't do what the OP asked.

To locate someone, using a competition, go to Sitepoint Marketplace or Rent-A-Coder.

Best of luck.

You'll find many that will take the job (probably under $500) but it will be a complete waste of money (for a public website).

There are lots of dishonest developers out there who will happily take your money for projects that legally can't be done, or can't be done because of limitation imposed by supporting companies (the search engines in this case).

Try Copernic Agent.

That will work for personal use but not if this will be a public website - Google, and others, will block if they feel there data is being scraped for redistribution on a website.

1) It will be very expensive to do what you want
2) If the site takes off your connections with the other search engines will begin to fail.  Other search engines have strict rules against scraping their data and the correct channels to use their data (through an API) have daily limits.

So you need to ask yourself why you would be doing this.  If its just for your personal use then are you willing to pay the hefty cost for the project, if its for the 'public' then understand it will fail at some point and there will be nothing for you to do to get it to work.

70
I'm not worried anyone would think that...

71
Very simple (since I know lots of DC members are against Facebook), all you have to do is leave a comment on the blog post on why you want it and what you'll do with it.  Couldn't be easier.

Trying to convery "what" open menu is in a logo would make it too complex.  IMO, simple logos work best.

Wanted to keep it clean, professional, with a hint of a menu in the logo.

The re-branding of Open Menu has begun.  Starting with the brand new logo:

What do you think of the logo?

It's my pleasure to donate things like this to DC.

Congrats to Skwire, well deserved...

You can get one of the folders (base) to start opened but can't have it remember the entire tree structure.
