Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Selling off Veign assets
« on: December 15, 2010, 11:15 AM »
I've decided to sell of all of the applications developed by Veign.

What I'm selling:
- All applications
- All Source code and application assets (graphics, installers and information)
- Cfont Pro's website: http://www.cfontpro.com/

There will be no restrictions once the sale is completed.  You will be able to do what you want with the applications.  Currently they are all donationware but if you want to make them into shareware applications that would be your choice.

I've thought about turning them into Open Source but I don't think that would work with these applications.  Hate to see the 1000's of hours of work go down the drain because my focus has shifted to web development only.

Feel free to ask any questions you want in this thread except price (that will be discussed in private via email).

Very simple, all you have to do is leave a comment on the blog post on why you want it and what you'll do with it.  Couldn't be easier.

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Open Menu Wordpress Plugin
« on: September 03, 2010, 06:10 PM »
wordpress_plugin.png

The official Open Menu Wordpress plugin has been released.  This plugin allows you to easily integrate an Open Menu Format menu into your Wordpress site.  This was my first venture into plugin development for Wordpress.  Lots of work was spent on best-practice integration.

Features:
  • Open Menu Post Types
  • Widgets for specials, restaurant location and a cuisine tag cloud
  • Powerful [openmenu] shortcode lets you insert a menu in any page or post
  • Options to control how the menu renders
  • Site-wide settings to ensure your menu fits into any theme

Like everything Open Menu we thrive on feedback.

Developer's Corner / Geographical Heat Map
« on: June 02, 2010, 09:31 AM »
Anyone know of anything around that lets me create, and manage, a heat map of the world.  Its has to be an online solution that I can host locally on a web server - Google Map solution preferred.

The way I see it working is the map, or code, makes calls (Ajax) to the database to retrieve values for a square being viewed and displays a heat map overlay on the view.  Some initial settings determine values corresponding to colors.

Anyone know of anything around?

edited: Should note that this is for a PHP / MySQL project.

« on: April 04, 2010, 04:09 PM »
Hoping this is the correct place for this.

Anyone that knows Veign know that I giveaway lots of free software.  Anytime I can I give stuff away.  Well, I now have a copy of Camtasia Studio 7 to giveaway.

All you have to do is download the demo, become a fan of Veign on Facebook and leave a comment on what you like about Camastia Studio 7 here:
http://www.facebook....?eid=114924205188892

The reason for the above is I want to give it to someone who really would use Camtasia Studio and who has tried it and it fits their needs.

Thanx all...

Developer's Corner / Minify Javascript Code

Does anyone have a recommendation on a Javascript minifier script/interface that is trusted to produce solid results.

This is a personal project of mine that I wanted to share with the DC community.  Before I tell about, I'll share why I created it.  I was on a weekend getaway in a new city that I had never been to before.  Walking around the city I knew that friends had visited but didn't know where they had gone or restaurants they liked and would recommend.  It would have been nice to know what my friends would recommend (what I consider a trusted source recommendation).  This is why I created Plarker.  Basically I would have a single map made up of my places and the places of the users that I am following.

Link:
http://plarker.com

What is Plarker?
Plarkerâ„¢ is a way discover new places to visit. You add places to your map. Your friends add places to theirs. Then share your maps. The places on your map and your friends map are overlayed onto a single map.

Thing you can do
# Create a map of places you've been
# Discover new places using your friends' maps
# Combine maps for a personalized map
# Embed maps on your website

Some usage ideas on Plarker
# Create a personal map and share your places with friends
# Setup a corporate account to let people add your business locations to their map
# Create an account for your town and tell others what's cool
# Like to hike? Show the trails where you've been
# Create an antiquing map and share the hotspots

Living Room / Looking for help with a Logo
« on: September 13, 2009, 09:27 AM »
I have a personal project I'm working on that needs a logo.  I have the logo basically designed in Photoshop but really need an EPS / high quality version and don't have the skill to get it done.  Is there anyone that can take my logo and get me an EPS / high quality version back?  There is no need to change anything just convert what's already there.

Thanx in advance.

Just go to my blog post:
http://www.veign.com...free-license-of.html

And leave a comment.  That's it.

Regulars will know that I give away software from time-to-time so this is legit.

(wasn't sure if I should post here or in Announcements)

I released a new tool on Quick Thumbnail that lets you quickly and easily crop images (whether from your hard drive or through a URL).  Like most tools I make, I make them for personal use.  In this tool I wanted to quickly crop images and produce, potentially, several outputs.  While you are cropping you can press Crop at anytime to generate a new output.

I have a friend who has a computer that is running very low on disk space (1.5 Meg free on a 70+ Gig hd).  I can't remote in to take a look at it and they said they move all of their files off to the server but no space is being freed up.

I'm looking for an application (no install, free) that can report back what folders are taking up the most hard drive space.  Anything?

Developer's Corner / PHP function sorting/reorder utility?
« on: December 01, 2008, 11:18 AM »
When writing classes for PHP I find that it would be nice to re-order the functions.  I would like a tool that displays the functions in a class and allows me to move it up or down in the order.  Then the tool would apply the re-order.  Kinda of like the screenshot below.  Anyone know of such a tool?

I like to have like functions grouped together but during development sometimes things get moved around.

Living Room / Options to use Donation Credits to purchase stuff
« on: May 15, 2008, 03:37 PM »
Not sure if I am the only one that collects DC's and doesn't use them because of a strange feeling of using something that is truly not mine and belongs to DonationCoder more than to myself (feels like DC and mouser deserves them more for all the hardwork).

What I thought may be a cool idea is to have DC offer swag that can be purchased at costs that would include all shipping (both to DC and to you) so the net cost to DC is zero.  The swag could range from DC swag to general computer stuff to audio things or books or such.  Like you can purchase an Amazon Gift Cert or USB Thumbdrives or MP3 players.

Not sure the amount of work.  I wouldn't think much since it would just be a small offering - maybe 10-20 active products at a time.

Thoughts?

Have been looking for a spell checker that would work on a rendered webpage from within Firefox.  Anyone know of anything like this.  All the ones I have found worked from within forms.

Thanx.

Living Room / Ideas to make DC even better
« on: December 26, 2007, 03:42 PM »
I had a couple ideas on how to make DC even better and though I would share them and get feedback

1)  Create a Work/Consultant Profile section for members.  This special profile section will contain information like: Company name, Status (if its your own company or you are working for someone else), skill set (not a listing of what you can do but a listing of what you are considered highly qualified in, URLs to sample work, hourly rate range, willing to sign an NDA/non-compete, location and general comments.  These are the things that I look for when spec'ing someone out for work.

What really brought this to light was the mention of Gothic going out on his own.  Knowing that he is highly skilled as a Linux Server Admin means I can use him (and have) if I have a client looking for a server admin.  I found out after I turned down some work earlier in the year and it would have been nice to know.

The hardest part would be a special search feature where someone could locate a member based on the special profile section.

Just a thought and it would be nice to 'keep it in the family'

2) Google Ads and ad sharing revenue.  It seems like a touchy subject on DC but I think DC could greatly benefit from non-intrusive Google ads on the forum.  Placing ads inline with posts are common in forums and help to offset the costs.  Since DC's membership and post counts are up, it may be the time to give them a try again.

How to make the DC members happy about having the Ads?  Let members add their Google Adsense account ID into their profile.  When ads are disiplayed pull a member's id into the ad (do this on a 75/25 split with DC's id showing 75% of the time).  What this does is earn revenue for DC and for its members.  win win...

Of course there has to be some logic that will never use the ID of a member who's viewing the post.  This ensures that a member could never click an Ad with their ID which is against the Adsense TOS and could get them kicked from Adsense.

Just a couple thoughts....

Found Deals and Discounts / Get Camtasia Studio v3 for free
« on: November 21, 2007, 11:37 AM »
I know its a slightly older version but Techsmith is making this version available for free and since their products are so well developed an older version may work well for some.

Camtasia is the complete professional solution for recording, editing and sharing high-quality screen videos. It's easy-to-use, affordable, and is the quickest and most effective way for you to communicate.

Read up on getting the license and a link to the download:

Just thought members here could benefit from this offer.

Living Room / Postcards from DC members
« on: October 28, 2007, 06:17 PM »
Just wondering how feasible it would be to have a 'show us your city/town' area where DC members can send in postcards that shows what makes their little neck of the woods unique.  These postcards can then be scanned into to a single location where people can view them through DC.

Kind of like PostSecret but without the secret:

Just a thought for something to do during mousers hiatus.
