Living Room / Re: Microsoft Releases SyncToy 1.4

Yep, the update is nice, and long overdue. I grabbed it right after it was released; it's always been a favorite for the same reasons 'cranioscopical' stated. Two of the XP PowerToys take you to MS validation d/l pages  The whole collection can be found at MajorGeeks as one .zip.

Living Room / Re: Buying New PC. Suggestions?

Hmmm...

Lots of good ideas. I've built and re-built 9 machines in the last five years. They're all in service, working fine. Five are shared more or less by Bite-sized trouble and I, and the others are virtually networked to my primary box.

I've used Newegg and Mwave, (even Tiger Direct once or twice), so the links from tinyvillager are nice to see. I agree that Dell is flexible in configuring to a customer's wishes, but their reliability is suspect, IMHO. Worse is HP; their machines are so proprietary as to be nearly impossible to alter. (They rivet drives in place!)

Unless you need to live on the bleeding edge of tech, I've found that it's easier to build solid, robust boxes using components that have been out long enough to get thorughly discussed in their respective forums. I also wait for the inevitable price drop!

Frankly, I've learned everything by trying. We was all newbies once, after all...
After I overcame the terror the first time I cracked open a case, it was Wahoo! from there.

lol!
Thank you Mouser and everyone for a terrific thread!

a) I used to make egg creams with seltzer and a real seltzer bottle I found at a garage sale.

2) y'know, there's No egg and No cream in an egg cream?

Bite-sized trouble doesn't like to watch me clean my ears. She says I shouldn't have that look on my face unless she's involved!

I have that ladder!!

I've never had any luck rewinding a DVD; spinning it on a pencil never works. (only for VideoCD's--you can rewind those any way you like.)

This guy's really got a handle on the process...
This kind of photography was done by Prof. Edgerton of MIT for years and years. (He developed the strobe flash)
Waugh may be standing on the shoulders of giants, but he's definitely adding to the view!
