This is something I've been looking for a while, and I'm just going through my newsletters from November.  Thank you for the link. :D

Living Room / Re: Play Media Files on my Network House-wide?
« on: February 18, 2010, 01:13 PM »
I haven't seen this mentioned yet...

I think what you're looking for is a Roku Soundbridge.  http://soundbridge.roku.com/  It has all the network connections you need.  The soundbridge can be used for any existing audio hardware you have (or want to purchase), and the radio is something you can easily put in a room and use in place of your laptop.  Both would have better quality than what your laptop would have.

The downside is it looks like it requires some kind of server to stream from.

I haven't tried this myself, but it looks like a possible solution to what you're looking for.

Recently I've been looking into software and solutions to have media streamed to my computers.  I have a large number of video, music, and picture files that I would like accessible.  This may be different in what you're looking for if you're trying to stream a DVD for instance (but can be fixed by making a video file out of it, of which all I know is that it's possible).

I've found that XBMC has been my front end of choice.  It connects to anything that you have (well, not my TV tuner yet, but I think it's close), and plays anything you have, regardless of your OS, the protocols you need, codecs, etc...  Ok, for Windows it's a snap, but and for Linux it's very easy and there are fairly easy instructions to get it working.  It has a very clean interface as well.  I've been very impressed with it.  Some downfalls I've seen, it is looking like it needs some moderate hardware to run smoothly.  I've been running it on my EeePC netbook, and I've noticed freeze for 1-3 seconds at a time when changing and selecting options, or loading a music or video file.  For a netbook, I'm very happy with it as I'm normally waiting that amount of time anyway for it to respond.  It works Wonderfully on my desktop PC as well.

XBMC has just released version 9.04 today, and I'm excited to try it out.  Their Beta 1 version was very stable and I was very happy with it.  I'd highly recommend it to anyone, or at least give it a try, if they want to stream their media from any where to their PC.

This is pretty slick! :D  Is there maybe a way to easily change the keys used?  I don't have a num pad easily accessable.  Strange gaming keyboard and all. :P

Thanks! :D

Duane27 - Yes, I have Use Drag On Window Title method, Use Drag With Middle Button method, and Use Drag Window To Edge method selected under options.  I haven't changed any of the features since installing it, except to use the 2 Part-Vertical Template.  When I drag the window using the left button, it shows the help text and moves the window, but I don't see anything else out of the ordinary.  The middle mouse button doesn't do anything.  And dragging it to any edge of the screen for 3 seconds (even though it's set to .5 seconds) doesn't do anything.

...  hang on a moment.  (plays with a few things and comes back in 5 minutes)

Okies, so it's something a little different.  I use InputDirector (http://www.inputdirector.com/) to allow me to use 1 keyboard and mouse for multiple computer and monitors I have setup.  When I would move the mouse from Computer1 (where my Mouse and Keyboard are plugged into) to Computer2, the inputs were being put into Computer1, sent through the network, and given to Computer2.  GridMove was having problems with this.

When I plugged a physical mouse into Computer2, it worked just as expected and did everything I've been reading GridMove should be doing. :)

The program works Great!  I love it!  The problem here is, I need to be special. :)

It would be nice to have this work, however I won't be using it in my office with the many computers & monitors I have, I'll be using it at home with the few monitors and One computer i have. :)

Again, Great app, thanks! :D

I'm just checking out GridMove and am loving it!  I'm having some troubles using it with the mouse, since I know the people that I will be suggesting it to are very much mouse orientated.

I can move the active window with the Command and Number.  But i'm unable do anything with moving it with the mouse?  Am I missing something or is it broke? I can see help windows when I go over the title bar.

Thanks!
