Windows used to have one that would just kind of distort the screen with a fish-eye lens that moved around the screen. You might try looking for something like that.

I was hoping the 'Bubble' one might do that (I think it works pretty much the same), but it acctually stops the screen from doing anything underneath and stops time and updating of the screen while the screensaver is on.

Would it be enough to rotate the colors and invert them every few seconds?

Rotate the colors and invert?  That might be too visually jaring if done quickly, but maybe a fade from one to another wouldn't be too bad.

It would be fine if they stayed similar shades, but that would probably defeat the purpose and still burn the screen eventually.

Yup... that would be exactly what I am looking for.

Just to summarize our jointly authored limerick, which is now complete. I made one edit in the interest of continuity (I hope no one minds). So, to the best of my knowledge, I proudly present DC's first co-authored work of poetry:

There once was a man from Nantuckett
Who kept all of his change in a bucket?
he went out to sea...
When he turned twenty-three...
and caught a King penguin, to pluck it.

I think that this deserves a thread of its own...

Not exactly how the poem I know ends... LOL... but much more family friendly.

After searching hear and else-where, I still can't find what I am looking for, so am in the hopes someone can help me...

I need a screen saver that doesn't stop the acctual screen from displaying what is going on.

For example, I have one computer that shows my Outlook email constantly.  I want to see when new mail comes in accounts and such, but the computer sits showing the Outlook program all day... which can't be good for the screen.

I want a screen saver or even just a constant program that runs a line or lines of random color over the screen while not affecting the screen underneath at all... just something to switch up the pixle colors so they don't burn in one color.

Can this be done?

I just got these supper cute little travel cooling pads on ebay. For about $10 from RedTagTown

Here is what they look like (better pictures at another store):
Similar Seller

They are super cute, super tiny (you can fit 3 of them in the space of 1 normal on in your travel bag), and super cheap (depending on the seller you choose).

Also... Super Quiet, and put out quite a bit of air, too.

Definitly the way to go for travel, and I am using mine for all-the-time at home too.

Zalman Notebook Cooler - On/Off switch, speed control, USB cord storage, etc.

Aerodynamically designed so it'll fly further when you throw it out the window.......

What's not to like  :D

Snazy!  Wonder where and how much.  Probably lots more than the $10 for a cheapie on Ebay, but I really like the idea of a speed control.

Yup.  That is me.  Hubby had to give up his watch a long time ago.

The fans don't bother me though, though, like I said, the ones I had were really quiet.

thanks.

I didn't think about the possible ill effects of the PDMCIA card fan blowing dust and such around where it shouldn't.

The fans in my old pad were pretty quiet.  Maybe you have a noisy one, or perhaps are just more sensitive to the noise.  I know I can't stand clocks, or even watches that 'tick'.

Okay.....

What about any un-educated guesses?     :P

If you're giving someone storage media like a flash drive, why don't you give them a bonus gift (free!) by filling it up with photo files?

That's actually a pretty good idea. But don't just stop there. Also fill it up with DonationCoder software and some PortableApps.

Not a bad idea at all.  He will be using them for work, so he doesn't need much in the way of home pics and such, but some useful little apps may just be what he needs.

I like the idea of home-made gifts, but if I have to give my dad or brother-in-law one more scarf, I think they will revolt.  LOL

I like the poem idea for my hubby, but most of my poems start with "There once was a man from Nantuckett...."   :P

Just thought I would start a list.

I just got several 16gb flash drives on ebay for less than $15 each.

Much cheaper than local, so I thought I would share.  Down-side... the shipping will take 3 weeks.  Hubby will be so happy when they get here.

(And they are tiny little things, too.  Maybe I am just not up to date on electronics, but it continues to shock me at how tiny flash-storage space is getting.)

So this got me to thinking... what other gift gadgets are out there under $25 (US equivelant)?

Hi there.

New laptop... of course means new goodies.

I had a laptop cooling pad (the kind the laptop sits on), but gave it to hubby for his work, so I am looking for a cooling device for my new laptop.

I have the option of a laptop cooling pad with fans, or getting a PC slot card cooler (strange thing that sticks into the PC slot and blows cool air in (or out maybe?).

Am hoping someone here may have an educated guess on which would be more effective at cooling.

Thanks All!
