Here's the latest version. This one also works in Opera, thanks to a fix by QuHno.

Thanks everyone

I have started a respective topic over at the Coding Snacks section.

... or where the parent application is (make that an option).

This would be great for multi-monitor-systems where dialog boxes for some reason can always pop up on the wrong monitor.

DialogMove does a good job in this sense, already (see discussion here) -- however DialogMove can't be restricted in order to not additionaly move all dialogs under the mouse pointer (because the latter actually is what it is SUPPOSED to do).

Therefore it would be great to have a little tool that could move dialogs similar as DialogMove does, but ONLY when dialogs pop up on the wrong monitor (or when they come up on the correct monitor, but not centered).

Recapitulating: The IDEA is, popups and dialogs should only be moved (to the center of the monitor where the mouse pointer is OR where the parent application is, possibly make that an option) when they are either a) on the wrong monitor or b) on the correct monitor, but not centered (on the monitor).

Thanks HEAPS already,
Cheers David.P

Great program, thanks once more to jgpaiva!

What I'm wondering, is there a way to adjust DialogMove such that dialogs are only moved to the center of the monitor where the mouse is? In other words, dialogs that ARE already centered on the correct monitor (where the mouse pointer is) should not be touched.

Is that possible?

156
Yes thanks. Already got the new version on my triple monitor setup. Great tool. It even moves context menus that pop up on another screen back to the mouse!

157
Whoaa, great stuff --- thanks  :)

Hi forum,

using a triple monitor setup (with Nvidia graphics card), I was wondering whether there is a tool that makes popup windows - like dialogs and the like - appear always on the screen where the mouse pointer is (or alternatively, where the main application is).

Thanks already for any hints anyone might have,

Cheers David.P

Thanks mouser  Please also note that much of the (programming) credits and kudos go to "my" team mentioned at the bottom of the page linked above.

Hi forum,

proudly announcing that the first version of the tool discussed above now is ready and working.

Please read on here (sorry only Google Translation for the time being):

All agreed, but this will be the icing. Let's start with the cake.

True, however for a start I'd be perfectly happy with a simple highlighting of the most frequent words of any text, minus a list of common words, like Wordcounter.com already does not too bad, see the result in my orignal post above.

The next step then could be some more sophisticated algorithms like matching with linguistic word lists, and more.

Anyway, the first step should be doable with very simple tools, even if it is simply most frequent words minus words that are shorter than "n" characters.

Most importantly, this way somebody should be able pick this idea up and maybe start hacking together a simple Firefox extension, for a start.

Cheers David.P

163
Yeah -- thanks for the information.

This leads me to the search term "Automatic Text Summarizing" where obviously quite a lot of research has already been done.

However I think the algorithm for keyword extraction would not even have to be that complicated.

Anyway, now that the function of that possible future automatic keyword color highlighting tool is laid out, I already miss that function on every blog or news site that I visit, really hard!

Cheers David.P

164
you are saying that, for any given page, it would be interesting to see highlighted words with some frequency pattern local to that page.

Exactly. Actually what I'd like this tool to do is doing some form of "pre-reading" in any amount of text for me, and highlighting - as intelligently as possible - the most important keywords (i.e. the words that show best what that certain text is about in the first place).

Therefore, the algorithm for identifying the unique keyword set of any given text would be of crucial importance in my view.

Cheers David.P

165
Mouser, thank you! Maybe this thread should be moved to the NANY section then?

For me personally, I think it would be important to have frequency counting and word list creation done automatically somehow (could be done by a separate tool of course or by an online service etc., you name it). This is because I think there would be not many cases where a "static" or "custom" word list would be the same even for only as little as two different web pages, blog lines or the like.

Cheers David.P

166
Thanks mouser, for your approval as well as your idea about custom word sets for specialist research and the like.

Awww I'm actually already dreaming about a toolbar button in Firefox that simply applies keyword highlighting automatically to every web page that I visit...! This would be such an INCREDIBLE time saver for me...

Anyone....? As for me, I'll donate in the double-digit range for a working solution....

Probably, for a robust solution and in order to automatically identify important keywords (and leave out most general, common words) it would be good to cross-check the pages' keywords against a general language word frequency list, and only highlight those frequent keywords on the page that are LESS frequent on a general scale (and therefore potentially MORE important for the currently displayed text).

Hi forum,

I read a LOT on the Internet every day -- like blogs, news, forums etc.

Very often however, I'd simply like to get the basic idea of the contents e.g. of a (long) blog or news text, but can't be bothered to read my way through the entire length of it in the first place.

Therefore I wish there was a software (or online service) that could do the following:

  • 1)   Rank and list the most frequently used keywords in any (selected) amount of text.
  • 2)   Remove small and common words from the ranking/list, and only keep like a dozen important keywords from the text.
  • 3)   Finally, apply different text highlighter colors to the respective occurrences of those text keywords.

Almost all of this already can be done semi-manually by using Wordcounter, Firefox and Googlebar Lite.

Wordcounter does 1) and 2):

and Googlebar Lite:

does 3):

Here's an example of what an article looks like with the highlights applied.

Although that might be a bit too much color (maybe like 5 to 7 colors and respective keywords would be good for a start), I am quite convinced that this would be a great way of quickly ploughing through the masses of text that one comes across during a typical day, and where it would be nice to get a basic idea of it's contents first -- before maybe going through some of it in somewhat more depth.

Well anyway, it would be GREAT if this idea could be made into a Firefox extension (or something) that automatically applies steps 1) through 3) to any amount of text that for example has been selected on a web page....

Thanks heaps already for comments or further ideas that anyone might have regarding this idea,

Cheers David.P

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh I just found out that Direct Folders DOES IT

It even shows any folder that has previously just only been DISPLAYED in Dopus in the "Recent" menu, in any Open/Save dialog, on middle click

In the Pro version, that is....

However it will be such a relief to paaaayyyy them $$$$$$$ for their pro version !

Thanks!

I REALLY need (for the life and health of me) a button (or something) that

a) automatically
b) in OPEN/SAVE dialogs
c) simply gives me access to the folders that RECENTLY (sic) have been opened, or are currently open, in DOPUS; and
d) that does NOT force me another 500 zillion times in my life to RESIZE that bl**d* "RECENT" column width  :wallbash:  :wallbash:  :wallbash:

Is it really asked too much........

Please, someone, show me that salvific link to that little tool that DOES JUST THIS (and actually DOES it....................)

Hi forum,

I must have been trying to get rid of this incredible annoyance like for a decade, however still without any lasting success.

It probably is about a hundred times a day that I have to work the ghastly, awkward way inside those infamous OPEN/SAVE DIALOG BOXES of diverse applications from something like

  • F:/Dispensable/Irrelevant/Annoying/Invalid/Deleted/TEMP

all the way to my respective current project folder which is of course

  • D:/Projects/A-F/Customers/John-Doe-2010-08

(for example).

I think I've tried nearly every Dialog Box Extender on the market but to date did not find one that simply can keep track of say the last THREE ƃuıƃƃıɹɟ folders that I have been using in whatever way, like for example having visited them in Directory Opus, or having opened or saved a file in them from whatever program's pǝuɯɐp open/save dialog box.

Sorry for the graphic language, I just can't believe that it doesn't seem possible to get rid of this ridiculously persistent issue :(

Thanks HEAPS already for any effectual ideas

Cheers David.P

PS: System is XP, Applications for example Acrobat, Visio, Word, Thunderbird and many others

I miss so much the Click Switch feature that I can make a small contribution "à la Donation Coder" if someone can solve it for me (through a separate script).
-h8ghmaintenance (August 19, 2010, 04:28 PM)

Yeah, I'd add my donation for that same purpose, since even with Direct Folders on Win XP the Click Switch feature doesn't work that smooth.

172
I also set it so double clicking in empty space inside Directory Opus brings up Direct Folders menu.

How do you do that? For me, the Direct Folders menu doesn't work in Dopus (actually I'd prefer if middle click would brig up the Direct Folders menu).

Also, the "Click switch file box folder feature" sometimes only kicks in after a doing a "change-folder-and-back" in Dopus.

is there a way to have no tray icon at all (like L*unchy or Ex*cutor)...?

see second screenshot.

Yeah, but there is still the icon showing up every time when Farr is activated

And this makes Tray Wizard redraw the entire task tray, unfortunately...  :(

Thanks mouser :) for the fast reply!

Actually the culprit that causes the stray taskbar button seems to be UltraMon. At least after quitting Tray Wizard and restarting Farr, the Farr taskbar button was still there and only went away after quitting UltraMon (which creates a Windows Taskbar on the second monitor).
(Farr is on my primary monitor with the original Windows Taskbar)

Now, after restarting all of Farr, UltraMon and Tray Wizard (but not Windows so far), the Farr taskbar button is gone for the moment.

Anyway, the tray icon still appears (by design/on purpose as I suppose) -- thus, is there a way to have no tray icon at all (like L*unchy or Ex*cutor)...?
