Well since everyone has been appropriately thanked, I'd like to take this time to thank myself for reading this...   :harhar:

What would really be great is if it had an alarm so you know when it's done while in another room (or not looking at the monitor).

You've got to hear the official song of DonationCoder....   :D

Listen To Your Webpage Code
Ever wonder what your favorite Website sounds like? Codeorgan reads a
Webpage's HTML and converts it into a musical melody. Some pages sound great
(try PCWorld.com), while others sound like a band that has had a little too
much to drink (I'm looking at you MySpace).

The best one I've heard so far is http://www.thatscomedy.com/default.htm

And on another note, I also took out the "meebo" toolbar on SmartPlanet with adding "cim.meebo.com" to my blocked domains.....   ;D

  Thanks fellers, that was the problem.  I used *.wibiya.com and it didn't work.  Then put the .cdn in place of the * and it worked like a charm.  No more invasive toolbars now.    :)
  I'm so happy I could defecate....   ;D

I tried blocking it with Addsubtract and it didn't work.  I looked at the source of the web page and saw that the toolbar is ran through javascript.....

On some websites like Lockergnome, there's a toolbar that pops up on the bottom of every page.  It has shortcuts to Google, Facebook, Twitter, and a buttload more.  The problem is even if you minimize the toolbar, if you go to another page on the site the toolbar pops up again.
To me it's nothing but a pain in the ass that gets in the way.  I'd LOVE to see an addon for IE8 (Avant front end) that would prevent this nuisance from popping up....

  Any takers?

I'm waiting for my KAV license to expire also.  I'm running version 8 now, because the later versions won't allow you to have Comodo Firewall or Spybot S&D installed on your computer.  It's an anti-competition type thing that's been going on for a couple of years now.  With v8, I had to uninstall Comodo Firewall and Spybot, install KAV, then reinstall Comodo & Spybot.  With KAV v9, you couldn't even do that, it wouldn't allow it.
I'll probably go with Comodo Internet security since I'm so impressed with their firewall.  Best firewall I've ever used, and extremely configurable....
For those of you that don't know Comodo, it's free and not restricted in any way.  They have a paid version for businesses, but it has features (paid services) that the ordinary user wouldn't need.

Living Room / Re: Has SEO ruined the web?
« on: July 16, 2010, 08:42 PM »

is bing really better?  I tried it a couple of times and wasn't that impressed.  Can you describe why you like it better?

It wasn't so much as Bing being better than google, it was the fact that google has the tendency to spy on everyone and keep everyones search queries for years without letting anyone know.  I'm pretty sure they sold these saved searches to marketers and such, but either way, I didn't like it.
On the other hand, Bing has some pretty neat features that I like, just not HTTPS like the new google offers.  Only thing I don't like about Bing is the big Picture that has to be loaded up.

I just read the other day that Google just changed their algorithm.  The article also went on to say that they also manually changed the rankings for some reason.  I figure it's for the almighty $$$.  Move their paid advertisers rankings to the top to keep them happy and make more money.....

I stopped using google years ago, and have been using Bing since it started up.  Only time I use google is if I need to do a HTTPS search......

OK Brainiacs, what's the best way to delete a service?  I uninstalled a program that left a service, and in Administrative Tools - Services, you can only get the properties, start/stop/etc.  I want to make this service go away.....  :tellme:

General Software Discussion / Re: Hard Drive Repair
« on: September 08, 2009, 08:19 PM »
Well, Norton Disk Doctor used to do both and would tell you what it repaired, with NTFS it don't give any of those options.  I upgraded (if that's what you call it) to SystemWorks 2005 the same time I changed OS's to XP, that's when I discovered that DiskDoctor had completely changed, I don't even know if it even looks at files anymore......

I've been depending on Norton for so long I had forgotten all about the Disk Tools hidden in the properties tab, along with a bunch of other stuff I hadn't relied on in years.   ;D  Somewhere, buried deep in my help files, I have the direct command to the Disk Tools from an icon, I should put it to use when I need to do a quick check of things.  I do have other file checking utilities that I rely on.......

General Software Discussion / Hard Drive Repair
« on: September 03, 2009, 08:44 PM »
I've been using Norton Disk Doctor to repair file/hard drive errors for years.  Since I've gone to XP and NTFS I see that Disk Doctor has lost a lot of functionality and has little "quirks".  I don't know if this is because of the way NTFS works or just because Norton started going down hill since Symantec got involved.
Anyhow, I never hear any mention of disk repair utilities like Disk Doctor.  Are there better hard drive repair utilities out there, or is NTFS limited in some way?

I tell ya mouser, I did a little programming back in the C= days (when it was fun), but now I just don't have the patience (or the back) to sit behind a puter for hours upon hours a day like I used to.  My hat's off to ya bud.

Let's see, my electric goes through three fuse boxes, my computer system is on a battery backup plugged into a voltage regulator to prevent the battery backup from constantly switching from online to offline while on generator power.  I think I'm pretty well protected...  ;)

Actually the HDTV is on the surge protection only side, for obvious reasons.  As for the rest of the stuff like the satellite, HDD/DVD, etc, I have it on battery backup to keep from losing anything I may be recording at the time.  The battery backup only needs to work for approx 20 seconds until my house's backup genny kicks in.
I'd be really miffed if I missed an episode of Battlestar Galactica....   ;)

Thanks xtabber.  I did a search and looked at the APC line of AVR's.  As many APC battery backups that I've bought over the years I would have thought I would have heard about their AVR's.
Before I can order one I have to pull my 57' HDTV away from the wall and look at the power rating, then add the other components power consumption.  The biggest one they offered is a 1200va, so if I need one larger then I'll have to find one through another company, and probably have to pay way too much......
