I know it is a false positive, but how do I get around this?

I've got Windows 10 Home on a Desktop at home, and I haven't seen any Ads, but then I run a bunch of heavy duty "Tweakers".

At work Windows 10 Enterprise has never shown any Ads (of course).
Also, the Enterprise Edition actually quite a good OS, whereas the Home Edition is a p.o.c.

I spend so much time trying to prevent "upgrades" getting installed at home that I'm planning on going back to Windows 7, even if it it means reformat and restore from an old backup.

After 6 or 7 days I went back to Windows 7.
The aggravation level of Windows 10 was too high. Of course there were a whole lot of prompts:
“Why?” - I told them
“maybe an update will help?” - No Thanks.

Eventually my laptop rebooted into Windows 7. Aaah

On New Years Eve I decided to make use of this upgrade on one of the two laptops I have in my household which can run Windows 10.

I still dislike Windows 10, that especially since Classic Shell is no longer being actively updated, and I can't justify the cost of the Pro Edition at home.

Well, I have 7 or so days to decide whether to return to Windows 7, and I'll probably do that. Maybe I'll revisit Windows 10 when it is finally rolled out at work. Oh well...

Taking a break from some of the books I'm plodding through on my Kindle (Columbine by Dave Cullen, Steve Jobs by
Walter Isaacson), A book I'm currently reading is:

Persuader by Lee Child (A Jack Reacher novel) 

I haven't seen any of the Tom Cruise movies, but the description of Jack Reacher has him at six foot five or so - and I keep on thinking how much bigger taller and tougher the guy in the novel is in comparison to the actor.

I don't view the actors in the movies as anything according to the descriptions in the novels.  Lestat is also not described in a way that would make one think "Tom Cruise", but he was excellent in the role.  I find that those who look at the novels in the same manner as the movie/TV series end up being disappointed by what is truthfully in my opinion the most superficial thing about the descriptions.

I just find it amusing while I'm reading the author's description. It wouldn't stop me from enjoying a movie with Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher.

MilesAhead - I actually never realized Daniel Craig was not "tall/tough". I actually enjoyed his portrayal as Bond, I thought he was one of the better Bonds, excluding Sean Connery of course.

SysExporter looks very useful, thanks for the mini-review.

There is a small freeware portable utility called GetWindowText, that can grab text from several Windows Controls, including directory trees and list views, but it is not as fully-featured as SysExporter.

Arizona Hot, thanks for the "What to do when you hate Windows 10" link. 

I didn't realize that you could no longer easily go back to a previous version of Windows during the first 31 days (From Point 4 of the article). This will make me think twice before upgrading to Windows 10. Fortunately I keep my OS and Data on separate partitions, so the "Nuclear Option" of returning to Windows 7 is easier.

The comments section of the PC World article also makes interesting reading, it seems very few people are totally happy without having to do some workaround with Windows 10.

Is anyone here really happy with vanilla Windows 10?

Yes, on most of my home PCs and laptops. My one "excuse" is that my work is on Windows 7 (and they are unlikely to upgrade for some time). I also quite like Win 7.

I only upgraded one computer to Windows 10, an oldish Lenovo Thinkpad which I'd previously updated from Vista to Win 7. It runs horribly slow, but I know that is because of the hardware - and it probably could do with a fresh install.

I'm vaguely tempted to update one of my faster machines (both with i5 processors and enough memory and disk space) to Windows 10, but can't decide between my laptop which I mainly use to sync with my iPhone and manage media, or my Primary Desktop. I have a secondary desktop, but that dual boots between Windows XP and Windows 7, and I really need to move the one or two programs off XP onto Windows 7.

Wow Curt, that is an impressive list of addons . I'll have to give some of them a try.

I'm on Firefox 48.0 as my primary browser.
I've also tried CyberFox, but I'm finding the update mechanism to be a pain.
Palemoon is quite decent.
I keep an installation of FireFox ESR as a backup, and use the latest PortableApps version so I don't have to mess around with multiple profiles more than necessary.

From the host of other replies, it seems that there are a bunch of options to keep using unsigned addons.

I tend to look at Giveaway Radar first as an overview. Even though it is not always accurate about freebies on BitsDuJour. Previously I used to wait for BitsDuJour's daily email which was sometimes  delayed. The daily email gives the discounted or free prices at a glance. I'm not advertising it, as it could be considered spam by some .

Giveaway of the Day has definitely gone downhill - with some of the Giveaways being 3 to 6 month licenses only - after that "license" period the software expires. I prefer the old "no support, no expiry" freebies.

 Columbine by Dave Cullen - heavy, in depth look without sensationalism.
 and
 Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson - IMO the Jobs biography by which others are measured.
