Living Room / Concept stage (workground) - "ifo computing"
« on: August 02, 2009, 04:41 AM »
Hello,

perhaps it's an idea for a new section where big concepts can be placed, without being necessarily being worked out within DonationCoder.com. I'd be happily outvoted on this one, but, I could be wrong.

This idea is not for CodingSnacks for completion but the rough concept may be, at least the research is there to be reckoned with, but can be done in an hour or two;
The idea is to switch operating systems. If a state of the computer is saved, preferably a compatible state where not everything is stored but just enough for the operating system to cope with (and not needing an update each time), then another computer state may be loaded to be able to land on the operating system and partition there that computer state may reside.

Switching between Win98 and WinXP may be easier than between Windows and Linux, or not, I don't know, but the Linux community is there to help. So, it's a running 'identified flying object' metaphorically speaking, activating the system underneath. Thought it would be nice to share 'ifo computing' with you.

That's it in a nutshell, and may be interresting. (At least we broke the patent rules on this oneĀ”)
Interface out..  :P

Thank you for your suggestion, but no, it's a little different.

I can however explain myself by means of this utility;
It's a graphical user interface, but what type of programme it's used with doesn't really matter. The command line string you see in the middle of the screenshot would then be divided up or split up by switches and filenames to rows according to the number of types of argument changes. (In the screenshot I count, combining same types of argument for one row, including the first exe path, roughly eight or maybe four, I'm not familiar with this programme).

It's a command line argument or parameter helper, where any (argument accepting) programme can be inserted, and any file can be dropped in as an argument. Kind of like a 'programme.exe %1 %2' shortcut on the desktop, but then graphical.

Thank you for allowing me to explain.

One step further, but that goes beyond the scope, is that the programme interpreted the user's intentions, and automatically corrects the syntax (notifying the user), according to a database, that the programme positioned in the first row accepts the arguments syntax it's programmed to do. (For example a 'mix' instruction on say, row four, where it gets positioned after another argument instead of before, would be translated back to '-m' or montage for Magick, offering any more options if available.)

For example
'mount -t loop image.iso /mnt/isoimage iso9660 -o' would be illegal and
'mount -t iso9660 -o loop image.iso /mnt/isoimage' would be correct.

For the original idea, imagine a window graphical border around '/mnt/isoimage' where any other image file can be dropped (this is Linux, but for Windows it's about the same, in this case 'mount' has probably to be a Windows tool located in the %path% environment).

I don't want to be greedy, but is there a utility where I can insert, or drag-and-drop, a commandline (accepting arguments) utility on the first row, and add one other row for each argument relevant? (With history and commenting logging, and perhaps envirenmental settings when relevant, talk about being greedy) (and perhaps command string pasting, to be distributed)

For example:
1.  c:\program files\imaginary\imaginary.exe (could be any programme)
2.  --option1 --option2
3.  d:\my images\picture1.jpg
4.  -o
5.  d:\my images\picture2.jpg
6.  empty

would presumably combine two images, assuming the syntax is accepted by 'imaginary.exe' of course.

I had a use for this a couple of times, I wonder if anyone else finds this useful. (I think it's a gem;)

I'm backing away a bit from this, but I thought the idea is good. This one is for use for other people then, where I wanted to share this with you.

Post New Requests Here / Re: Idea: comparing SFV
« on: July 27, 2009, 06:51 AM »
Dear Coding Snacks,

Sorry for bringing this out on top.
Concerning my language, this idea needs explaining. This is a practical example of a running programme, explained by its output:

Looking for matches from 'filedirectorystructure.sfv' in %drive%
Appending unmatched files to 'unmatched.sfv'
Moving matched files to %drive%%path%
Moving matched files to %drive%%path%, file exists,
  appending to 'duplicates.sfv' with filedate
(and any other file info in the comment in the future?)

Neat eh? I hope you like it. Of course, it is on that basis if you decide you go along with it or not. This is unconditional.

Yours,
Bas

'filedirectorystructure.sfv' (the way you want it) to clean on the inorderness of:
somebody's computer (%drive%) e:\dir1\dir2\fileX.doc
                              e:\dir1\dir3\image.jpg
                         %drive%%path%file4%extension%
                              e:\dir1\fileZ.odf
                              e:\dir1\dir3\fileZ-modified.odf

Source code files could be even better treated with this (such a) utility..

Hi Mouser,

Perhaps it's something to add to MiniCap, but that would make it closer to the full Screenshot Captor in scope. Come to think of it, it would almost become a MidiCap, somewhere in between.

To make matters worse, although not originally the case (in my request), I've seen reports on the net that transparency with png graphics aren't as straitforward; Any imagery that MidiCap would see on your desktop could be used for webpages.

It seems I can't answer straight. To get back to your question, one of the two lines is the inner loop, and the other line is the outer border loop, where in between transparency gets distributed from 0% to 100%. This is a quick way to add standard masking.

Don't get me wrong, the features in Screenshot Captor are great, including the bitmap masking which is very (very) useful; perhaps it's nice to create a desktop snapshot tool specialized in masking, more graphics oriented, holding the snap collection for a DTP programme.

Hmm, don't know about the coding, but moving a bitmap (or some lines) over a snapshot as a very simple process in MiniCaptor would just do the job. It's late, and I'm working too hard ;) but that actually makes sense.

I hope other people would approve.

Perhaps MiniCap can map out an image 1:1 if the filename or url of the image is known, but then I'll just stitch images together or use a virtual desktop, this can be solved. Thanks again Mouser.
