I hope you don't mind me repeating myself. I think this is exactly what the cpanel alias does. Observe:

And I have absolutely no idea what this 'God mode' is.

Me too. I feel I'm too old for them now lol - or maybe I was just insanely sleep deprived but it was all very unpleasant. Chile deserved a win, IMO.

They certainly didn't deserve to lose. Nevertheless, I feel it's better for the tournament that Brazil is still in.

228
But Josh's cpanel alias does all of that, doesn't it?

And I was already planning to make a network connections plugin. But why spend many hours of my precious time which I could be spending with my kids, or watch the football world cup, or learn Haskell, when not even you are going to use it?

229
Really cool! Thanks for sharing

cpanel Network stuff:

231
But that is exactly what the cpanel alias does, no?

232
I don't think it's currently possible to list network connections in FARR directly. Would maybe make a useful plugin though.

Best you can do is probably the cpanel alias, i.e.

cpanel network

Should give you all control panel items named something with 'network'.

For some reason my cpanel.alias file limits 'Network Connections' to Windows versions 5.9 and below. If I change it the respective line to:

<Result>Network Connections | %windir%\system32\control.exe netconnections /ICON=NetworkSharing.ico /winvermin=5.1 /winvermax=6.2</Result>

in

C:\Program Files (x86)\FindAndRunRobot\AliasGroups\Installed\cpanel\cpanel.alias

it seems to work all right even in Windows 8 though.

I see there are many other items which are limited to winvermax=5.9. Maybe someone needs to go over that file and update the ones which also work on Windows 8.

Until now, I think I have fared very well with the combination of Sublime/Vintageous and Visual Studio/VsVim. I feel I get best of both worlds. E.g. I mostly do find&replace with the applications' built-in functionality instead of :s. But what I get from the respective VI-modes is what I miss most from the other apps, namely fast cursor movement / text manipulation within the current line!

If you are very curious you can find the full report here

http://www.cs.columb...cs2014_playdrone.pdf

235
With a tool called PlayDrone developed at Columbia University it was possible to reveal secret keys of thousands of Android apps. With these keys it was even possible to access private data of users of these apps.

WOW!

It's a shame it's the Subversion repositories which are gone instead of the git ones. Git repos, as a matter of fact, are basically their own backup (if you happen to have a local copy). I sincerely hope none of the customers have lost all of their long hard work!

Been playing too much Wolfenstein lately? ;)

The (new) icon on the subject line of the 'UNREAD POSTS' page is an essential part of my DC-workflow. Quite often, I'm using my iPad to read on the DC forums. With the retina display, it's actually quite comfortable to read without having to zoom in. Unfortunately, hitting that (new) icon is a bit of a gamble. Often, I'm hitting the subject line instead of the (new) icon, taking me to the very first post instead of to the new one.

Would it be possible to make hitting that (new) icon somehow more reliable? Maybe by adding more white space between the icon and the subject link, or by putting it into a dedicated column, or by any other means...

Living Room / Re: TrueCrypt is Now Abandonware?!
« on: May 30, 2014, 06:55 AM »
If a crowd-funded security audit of your FOSS project doesn't convince you that there is a tremendous interest in your project, I don't know what will.

Also, bitlocker cannot replace TrueCrypt, as bitlocker is not cross-platform.

And then, why no encouragement for someone to fork, if they see a need for the tool?

Even for someone not usually into conspiracy theories this sounds rather fishy.

240
There are also tools that detect and report code duplication for various programming languages. These are mostly commercial though.

241
You could try my FARR Windows Search plugin. People have been using it with mixed success though (reporting stability issues which I was never able to pinpoint).

It seems to work for contacts; at least the ones in my local address book (not the global ones though).

in FARR type:

ws contact [the contact your looking for]

242
And this problem is going to get worse with the adoption of 4k Displays.

243
After reading Jeff Vogel's article reference here, at least now we know that we're not alone with this problem.

There's a new PC & Android humble bundle today. I rarely play on Android and never on PC... gonna check it out now ...  ;D

I've never even heard about the Python 2 vs 3 debate until ewemoa started this topic. But then we went for Ruby when we had to decide between the two 8)

I find it difficult to understand how you can't come up with a sustainable business model when you have a service that works and 5 million potential customers.

Is it so obvious that starting to charge a reasonable fee for your service is going to turn so many users away that it is not even worth a try?

I have been using the service, although not to such a level that this would be a real problem for me. But then again, you shouldn't rely on free services, should you?

Living Room / Plea for help from programmer and blogger Xah Lee
« on: May 16, 2014, 02:38 PM »
Programmer and blogger Xah Lee who runs the ergoemacs.org web site posted a disturbing plea for help today

http://ergoemacs.org...as_good_as_dead.html

He's financially ruined, living from noodles and oats, close to homelessness.

I've been following his blog mainly because of his excellent information and reviews about ergonomic keyboards.

I have to admit I fail to understand how he managed to live in a place that cost him $1600 a month without having a job for years (if I understood that right).

That's interesting -- I wonder what is causing the horrible red/blue fringing on vertical edges on my setup :(.

Jibz, your screenshots remind me of ClearType colouring/anti-aliasing.  Perhaps that's what is causing it?  For the record, I can't STAND ClearType at all; it always looks fuzzy and out-of-focus to me.

That reminds me of: https://www.youtube..../watch?v=3KZ6mIsbDc4
