N.A.N.Y. 2015 / Re: Prelim NANY 2015 thread

If you could consider making it as a widget please
There is already a quite usable version of that: Countdown widget
but probably there's a market for a different one :D
There sure is! :)

I'd like to see that
Yes, me too. I think that would be useful. If you could consider making it as a widget please

It's not a license... and several people have used it without prior permission.  And if you follow the thread of posts, they asked.  And he never gave a response.

Where I come from, if someone asks you if they can take something from you, and you do not give a reply, it doesn't automatically mean 'yes'. Neither does allowing someone to take something from you automatically allow anyone to do so.

But don't get me wrong, I don't disagree with you at all. The lack of cooperation on Gruber's part still surprises me. Especially since all they wanted was his consent (well, and the name).

204
I think it does in this example, because all text lines have equal length. Otherwise, I think having the count in the beginning would make it easier to see and extract, e.g.

one
two
three
four
five
six
two
three
four
five
six
three
four
five
six
four
five
six
five
six
six

1 - one
2 - two
3 - three
4 - four
5 - five
6 - six

vs.

one - 1
two - 2
three - 3
four - 4
five - 5
six - 6

But I'll do whatever suits you best :)

Living Room / Re: Scratch - A Game Programming Language For Children

And now there's ScratchJr, for children aged 5-7. Currently runs on the iPad. An Android version is in the making though.

...
And that's what they did in the end after he finally made it clear that he wouldn't allow the name to be used under any circumstances.  That's after telling them that he might allow pedantic or strict markdown... which both don't convey what is being done at all.
...

Well, the Markdown license states that the name “Markdown” may only be used with specific prior written permission. So choosing a different name right from the start, while most certainly not changing Gruber's opinion about the whole endeavor, would maybe have led to less negative reactions from some parts of the community.

207
I agree mouser that choosing a different name and just stating that one of the main goals was Markdown compatibility would probably have been better.

208
It would be cool if you have an alternative "remove duplicates".
It removes the duplicates, but ads a counter at the end with how many times a certain word appeared in the list.

I think I'd prefer this suggestion after all. Counter at the end: would you prefer that to at the beginning?

209
The same thing just starts happening with Scala. Even has some reference to the Markdown quarrel in the comments ;D

210
Glad it's still useful, at least for someone ;).

I wouldn't want to put such information into the output pane. But I'll look into putting it into an additional pane, maybe just underneath the output. What do you think?

211
Wow! I'm a big Markdown fan myself. Didn't know about this dispute though. Would be interesting to know what goes on inside Gruber's head. Seems like he missed the chance to be part of something important. I'm actually surprised how much effort the team behind CommonMark put into getting him on board. With the attitude he demonstrates, I think I would have just ignore him much sooner.

Hi talbottsw,

If you meant to use the FarrWebMetaSearch plugin to do this, I wouldn't recommend it. This plugin relies on the 'structure' of the searched web site to stay 'static'. The problem is that the provider of the respective site can change the 'structure' at any time, breaking the functionality of the plugin. In the worst case this could happen in such a way that you couldn't tell the difference between it being broken and it just not returning any value.

In order to reliably query information from your wholesalers they would have to provide that information via a reliable programming interface (an API). If your wholesalers offered such an API, it would be possible to write a FARR plugin (if that's what you want) or a simple application to query the information relevant to you from all four (or however many offer an API) at the same time.

Developer's Corner / regular expressions 101
« on: August 20, 2014, 02:44 PM »
While working with regular expressions today I stumbled over regular expressions 101. Not only does it test your regular expression as you type, but it also picks it apart and explains it to you piece by piece. Amazing!

....  Have switched to Launchy...

Classic! ;D

Reminds me of Chandler, the SW which is the subject of the Dreaming in Code book.

From above Wikipedia article:
Its approach is mainly based in creating a unified representation for the storage of tasks and information so that they can be classified in a homogeneous way, refining that information through an iterative workflow, and allowing easy collaboration on the defined items.

I think the %MYSTARTMENU% entry in Options - Search folders should cover your start menu.

What do you get when you open FARR and type %MYSTARTMENU ?

222
F5 / reload worked for me.

223
Excellent! Now what about adding some white space, would that be possible?
