Circle Dock / Re: Circle Dock 0.9.2 Alpha 7.5 is Released
« on: September 02, 2008, 03:32 PM »
The download doesn't seem to support resume (I've tried Opera & FF Down Them All).

After some time without internet connection, I now have one that is very intermittent. Managed to get as far as 93% once, but that is no different to 0% without the ability to resume.

Send me an e-mail to [email protected] and I can try e-mailing it to you. Are you on dial-up?

How can I rename a folder of Dock? I can only create and change the icon, but I do not know how rename! :(

I'm actually coding that right now. It'll will be due out in Alpha 8, which is planned to be out sometime this Sunday. If you want to do it manually right now, you could go into the DockItemData.ini file and change the name there.

I've tested EUP 1.4 and FARR running at the same time and there are no problems on my machine. I can change the settings in FARR and there are no problems with them saving or getting overwritten.

I'm not real sure what is going on with this.  V1.2 works great, since then I have had no success. It doesn't take focus ever, it somehow resets just about all the FARR settings!   and well I haven't been able to use it, no real problem for me, 1.2 has all I need for 99.9% of what i want it for, but others may be experiencing something similar.

That is surprising that V1.4 is causing problems since it doesn't use global hooks anymore and just sits dormant when not in use. Is it a software conflict with FARR? I'll try and run them together and see what happens but I don't see how EUP could be writing over FARR's settings.

What OS do you have? What happens when you have Notepad open and try using EUP 1.4 to paste a unicode character into it?
I have EUP running on both Vista 32-bit and XP SP2 - 32-bit and having experienced any conflicts.

Thanks for the Portuguese character set! I've posted it with the Easy Unicode Paster executable at http://easyunicodepa...wikidot.com/download

I just wish there was some open source character sets that already have descriptions with the characters. Then, I could just parse all the data with EUP. It would make things go a lot faster. I would love to have the character set data from Microsoft's Character Map since it has descriptions for every character.

Circle Dock / Circle Dock 0.9.2 Alpha 7.5 is Released
« on: September 02, 2008, 04:00 AM »
Alpha7.5NewRings.PNG1

  • Circle Dock 0.9.2 Alpha 7.5 is released for bug fixes.
  • Fixed the hotkey problem where you could not change the hotkeys.
  • Fixed the bug where if you set the number of key presses per rotation to 0, the dock would not load properly.
  • Included a new background image of double rings courtesy of Syllabus.
  • Language files included now are: French, English, Portuguese, and Russian. Thanks to the translators.
  • All language and settings .ini files are now encoded in unicode to enable greater support for languages with non-standard characters.

I seem to remember someone creating some new orb icons for Circle Dock but I can't remember where I read about it. If you know what I'm talking about, post a message here.

Alpha 8 should be due sometime this coming Sunday or close to it. After Alpha 8, I'll be focusing my efforts to port the code from the WinKibaDock project into Circle Dock to enable better animation and lower CPU usage. I'll be expecting that to take about 2 weeks.

Circle Dock / Re: Bug in alpha 7.4 (hotkeys)
« on: September 02, 2008, 12:16 AM »
I updated my version of CD from 7.3 to 7.4 the "new" way where I just replace the .exe and it worked smoothly.  Except, I noticed that the hotkey I had didn't work so I thought "hey, maybe that just didn't save", but no, none of the hotkeys I try work and I am having to use the edge of the screen to hide/show (which I don't like doing).  Just thought I would let you know so you can investigate for the next update.

I have Vista SP1 32-bit, by the way (if it matters).

I'm looking at the problem right now.

This is very good news. I remember briefly glancing at the WinKibaDock project a few weeks back: http://sourceforge.n...rojects/winkibadock/

This was a project to port the Linux Kiba Dock to Windows but it was abandoned well before they got it all working.

The good news is that the got the animation aspects right and it performs quite well from the last executable they released (2006). What's more, they are also using a child objects -> background -> parent architecture like Circle Dock is using so lots of the code should be applicable with some understanding and conversion to a usable form. Even better is that it is written in C#, the same programming language that Circle Dock is written in! This greatly accelerates the progress of the project since much of the animation engine is already coded! I'm just briefly playing around with the program and browsing the source code, but it is very encouraging.

I hope to try out the WinKibaDock animation engine after I complete Alpha 8 this coming Sunday. It should make for some smooth animation that I think would be up to the quality of Rocket Dock or Object Dock!

Circle Dock is only able to see up to the first 5 buttons on your mouse (left, right, middle, X1, X2). Any buttons above these are non-standard and you would have to use the software provided by your mouse manufacturer to reconfigure the buttons. It's a driver/software limitation so I can't touch it.

For having a hold-delay option for the mouse buttons, I think I can do that and it would be a good idea since many people use the middle-mouse button to open tabs in Firefox. It'll have to be some time after Alpha 8 this Sunday though.

I've got a problem: when I set the keyboard hotkey to none, 0 becomes a hotkey and is rendered useless for general typing (I can use the 0 button in the numpad, but not the number row).

Wow, you are right. I'll fix it or swap it out with another hotkey component. I'll get an update as soon as possible. For now, just check all the Ctrl, Alt, Shift, and Win boxes if you want "None". This will sort of simulate a "None" condition since I don't think you would be pressing down all those keys at once.

Amazing application, thank you! Great work!

I've made a translation into Russian, hope it will be useful for you.
It's a pity, that not every string is currently localizable, so some things can't be translated (grid headers in icon association setups, or credits in About window, for example), but what was possible is done.

And a little suggestion, if you don't mind :)
It would be much easier to localize this, if you will make labels and checkboxes stretchable. Screen position section, for example, takes a lot of space, but can't contain more than about 40 characters.

Thanks for the translation. I'll post up an updated version of Circle Dock with it.

Some items in the Settings Panel are not fully implemented so they are not using the language files yet. I'm working on finishing them for Alpha 8 along with other options. As for the Credits panel, I thought it would be a pain to translate all the text in the credits list so I just left it as English no matter what language file.

As for making the labels and checkboxes stretchable, I'll see if I can do that. Maybe I have to put everything inside an expanding table. I'm not sure how that would work right now but I'll check it out for Alpha 8.

I seem to have a problem in CircleDock alpha 7.4.  I set my visibility hotkey to CTRL+ALT+Z and that used to work fine in alpha 7.2.  Now the only hotkeys I can seem to get to work are the F1-F12 keys.

Thanks for catching this. I'll find out what's wrong with it.

I could also make the background rotate with the dock. That's something that I think I could implement for Alpha 8.

Some suggestions :P... For functionality... And beauty   :-*

1 - When you double click the middle icon, the Dock hides.  :-*
2 - I'm going to make some backgrounds with 'Double Rings', because, if you have more than one 'ring', the other icons will be 'floating?'... then... it's gonna look like this... if you like, tell me... I can do some for the Dock ;)

Png for test:> http://maxvibe.net/d...ens/DoubleRing01.png
In use:> http://maxvibe.net/d...agens/Dock2Rings.jpg

3 - Maybe a 'zoom' on the icon when we pass the mouse over it? I Think i have read this here yet, but... ;P

Well, that's it, for today :P... First day of use... Very nice program... very interested on helping :P

Keep the good work,

Cya,

Erich

Wow, those are nice rings! I'm going to try to release Alpha 8 next Sunday. Can I include them in the Alpha? I think it would also be nice to feature them on the Circle Dock website. I've got some language files and I think another set of rings someone has e-mailed me. I've been meaning to update the website these past few days but was experimenting with some code for Circle Dock that I haven't got fully working set.

For Alpha 8, I'm going to be completing some of those features listed in the current Settings Panel as well as implementing the options people have suggested on this board and through e-mails. It will also have a properties panel for each dock icon so that you can finally edit them after you have it on the dock. I'll also be adding some more shape options for people to adjust.

......
The biggest difference between Diacrit and EUP may be that Diacrit already "has" all characters and signs if they are installed on the user's PC.
......

Know anywhere that I can the character data files that contain descriptions for each character? I think I might just do a version of EUP with all the characters in a data file but I want them to be described like Character Map does for unicode in Windows.

You already have given EUP the feature to hide to sys-tray, which is really cool. Do you think it will be possible for you to also change EUP from the new "Start Minimized to Taskbar" into "Start Minmized to Sys-Tray" instead??

Config.JPG1

Isn't that what the new setting in the Config panel does? Check the first option and it will start minimized to the tray icon.

Alpha7NaNBug.JPG1

Thanks for noticing this. This is caused by Circle Dock trying to divide by zero when it saves the rotation data to DockItemData.ini In DockItemData.ini -> [0] -> CircleRotation, it becomes NaN, which means not a number and causes an error in the program. Just change this back to some number such as 1 and it will work again. If you were in a dock folder while you were spinning it, just search and replace all occurrences of NaN and replace it with a number.

I will upload a fix tonight along with a couple of new language packs.

Hello Eric

Thanks a lot for writing Easy Unicode Paster, I really like it a lot!

I would very much like you to add feature to Start Minimized to Tray, if possible, please.

Check out version 1.4 of Easy Unicode Paster: http://easyunicodepa...wikidot.com/download

It has the option to make EUP minimized after it starts itself. There are also a couple of interface tweaks and it uses a different method of sending unicode keys to applications that now works reliably with Internet Explorer text boxes.

Also, can you post a couple of screenshots of the menus of Diacrit? Does EUP work similary to Diacrit? What's the major differences besides the "Language" menu in Diacrit?

If it's any help, Alpha 8 will has a properties panel for each dock icon that will let you change that target location that the dock icon executes.

can someone help me i need to solve a problem with the dock.. i tried to put my docs, my computer on the dock.... but it doesn't.. and also i want the the dock to stay still in the center without disappearing from the desktop, can it be just like the Rockitdock.. Still and visible at all time.. please help me :-\

I answered a version of this question over e-mail but this phrasing is clearer. Some files and folders are virtual directories that don't have a physical path on your hard drive. Currently, Circle Dock does not support the drag and drop operations on these file types. You have to create a Windows shortcut for these directories and then drag and drop them onto Circle Dock. Circle Dock will execute the shortcuts.

For the second part about, I believe you want to disable movement of the dock and keep in on the bottom of all other windows except if it has focus. Someone on another messageboard has made this request and I'll be implementing it fully in Alpha 8 which will be out in about 1 week from today.

For now, you can disable Circle Dock from following your mouse around when you toggle the visibility by going to Settings -> Location and uncheck the follow the mouse option.

I found the mistake and must to improve the Circle Dock, is drag n drop icons from desktop to circle dock. The mistake is when the icons already drag n drop on circle dock and using it, after I deleted the desktop program icon, on the circle dock that icon and link will be follow disappear together cannot use and must find another way again to continue use the program.

I already checked the "DockItemData.ini" circle dock just take the icon links at "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\"

Better create a add icon menu to fix it at Alpha 8, circle dock icon must direct link at installed program file.  :)
If it is unfortunate deleted icon on desktop, and it won't be affect the circle dock icons.

Currently, Circle Dock does not track what happens to the original file/folder that was dragged and dropped onto the dock. If it gets deleted or moved, Circle Dock doesn't know. I have some file tracker code that I will implement in a future version to synchronize these actions.

I don't quite get the full picture of your problem here, though. Are you having trouble removing the icon from Circle Dock after the original file gets deleted?

I was wondering something kind of random: would it be possible to replace the center button with a live clock? I think that would be a practical and efficient use of space in the dock, but I just don't know how feasible it is.

It is certainly possible and most of the code to do that kind of thing is already in Circle Dock but I have to think through how to implement animations effectively and efficiently. This is the one piece of the puzzle that I haven't totally figured out. I just wish I had access to one of the mainstream dock applications out there so I can see how they animate everything simultaneously and smoothly.

323
With Easy Unicode Paster Version 1.3, there is no longer a need to calculate the window size. The program will automatically save the last window size used and the last position the window was at upon exiting. It will load this again when the program restarts. This means that all you have to worry about is what is inside [Unicode Characters] in Config.ini.

The syntax for Config.ini is slightly different. You now use *NUM* at the end of the name for a unicode character to specifiy that you are giving the program it's unicode xml number. The text on the very left of each line, before the "=" sign is used as the unique name and tooltip text for the button. You can still paste what you have from version 1.2 into version 1.3 and the program will still display it. Give it a try and post your Config.ini file if you have trouble.

To modify the size and font of the buttons, right click on them when you have Easy Unicode Paster opened.

I'll do a section up on the website explaining how to modify Config.ini.

ToolTips.jpg1

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, there are tooltips for each of the unicode buttons in Easy Unicode Paster 1.3.

325
Yeah, I should do those pad files. I did one of them but I forgot about it....
