Circle Dock / Re: [Translate File] Simplified Chinese
« on: September 14, 2008, 02:43 AM »
I'm actually Canadian, born in China. I can converse in Cantonese but reading and writing Chinese is not one of my strong points since I came to Canada at a very young age.

But in my computer, it all works well. So should it be the problem for the regional setting? or I have to save the file using unicode?
Ps, are you ABC?

It's nothing wrong with your computer. I just have to make the ini file reader for Circle Dock unicode compatible with non-western script characters. It has been fixed on my computer and it will be released in Alpha 8 tomorrow.

I don't know what ABC stands for.

when i use CD to open firefox,it always leads to this link:
http://nmdns2.cncmax...firefox&R=/&
and other apps opening FF dosen't ,why?

Is that the homepage set for Firefox? Do you have multiple users on your computer with different accounts?

Maybe try running an anti-spyware program to see if that is the problem.

i save the ini file as ansi encoding. if change to unicode or utf8 encoding maybe OK. (you can use notepad)
in my PC, i can see that correct as ansi encoding.

There is nothing wrong with your translation. The ini file reader for Circle Dock just needed to be made unicode compatible for non-western script characters. I've fixed it on my computer and will release the new dll for the ini file reader (AMS.Profile.dll) in Alpha 8 tomorrow.

circle dock is a great idea, i like it very much.

i've translated the language (for 0.9.2 alpha 8 ) into Bahasa Indonesia, hope it useful.  :P

i see there is much improvement from the previous versions, but in this versions (0.9.2 alpha 8 ), i still can't add special link like "My Computer", "Recycle Bin", etc. I've tried using registry argument for target (i.e, ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} for My Computer), but still doesn't work either. Anyway, this version is more usable than previous versions. good job Eric

can't wait for updates  ;)

Thanks for the translation, I'll add it into Alpha 8 for tomorrow and put you in the credit list.

As for those virtual folders you listed, I recommend you make Windows shortcuts for them and hide them or put them in an out of the way folder and then put those shortcuts on Circle Dock. I haven't figured out a way of getting the CSLID's for virtual folders from a drag and drop operation yet; I haven't found any documentation that shows how this can be done from drag and drop but I hope to find a way soon.

Be sure to grab the official Alpha 8 release tomorrow since some things have changed based on the feedback I've gotten here and my own testing of Alpha 8.

I also made some of background images, hope it useful too! ;D

Thanks! I love the one with the wings. I can see people into goth or bikers using it.

I'll put them in for Alpha 8 tomorrow. I'll make up some screenshots with those backgrounds and put them on the Circle Dock homepage. Unless you already have some screenshots with your backgrounds in them?

I'm loving the new update.  I don't know if this has been requested before, but It would be nice to change the icon size based on which layer its in, for multi layered rings.  Have smaller icons towards the centre and larger icons on the outside.

That can be done easily. Maybe I'll do that as a minor update for Alpha 8 while I code the major animation/performance revisions for Alpha 9.

Just one more quick question tho... I'm going to be running CD from a folder on a server that starts up with Windows for my staff, I am going to try locking down the Settings folder that contains the .ini's to prevent further "hacking" of the dock, will this have any adverse affects? I guess the users will still be able to drag'n'drop onto the dock and that those changes will persist until the program is closed, but will then return to normal on next run?

Cheers again, excellent program!!!

With the kiosk version of Circle Dock, it would only need to read from the .ini files or any other files for that matter so you can safely lock down the entire Circle Dock folder. You users won't be able to add or remove any of the items with the "Circle Dock Kiosk.exe". They will be able to launch it, use it to launch items and dock folders but everything else will be locked out including the settings panels.

I try to create another new background for Circle Dock, my target is want create a background is true transparent like the glass(can see through), but I don't know how to do it...

And here is my Circle Dock Background Style:

Gears of War Logo Style
......

Dual Ring Style
.....

So very ordinary.

Wow, those are cool backgrounds! I especially like the Dual Ring version.

Do you want to include those for Alpha 8 tomorrow? I could feature them on the Circle Dock homepage. Just send me an e-mail at [email protected]. Sorry that I can't help you with the glass type effects. I'm not an advanced Photoshop user so I can't create those kind of graphics.

Circle Dock / Re: Help
« on: September 13, 2008, 12:51 PM »
In this Sunday's official release of Alpha 8, Circle Dock will now use the target path of the shortcuts (.lnk) you drag onto the dock so you won't need two sets of icons anymore. It won't do this retroactively to the links you have on Circle Dock right now because there may be instances where you do want to reference a .lnk file.

Yes, someone mentioned that before. I was debugging that version of Alpha 8 that you have right now and I commented out some code. The official release of Alpha 8 this Sunday will have that items properties panel working along with some other important improvements so be sure to grab the official release on Sunday.

Language translated into Portuguese brazil,

Thanks for the updated translation!

Also, I would like to announce that I have fixed the unicode incompatibility bug with the ini file reader I'm using for Circle Dock and I can definitively confirm that I can see both the Russian and Chinese characters in Circle Dock with no problems. The original AMS.Profile.dll I was using to read the ini files is from an open source project but the author did not code it to work with unicode and I had to modified it.

it Works!

That's good to hear. I guess I shouldn't use ShellExecuteEX since it causes problems for some people. I'll have to read up on Process.Start() to see if it can do everything I need it to.

Thanks for trying out Alpha 8 Debug/Translation release. Be sure to get the official release of Alpha 8 this Sunday because it will have a few more bug fixes and the ability to run multiple instances of the program from separate folders.

I do agree that it needs better documentation. There is a professional tech help writer who has offered to do it but I want it to happen after Alpha 9, the last major release for version 0.9.2 before beta testing and where things should be much more finalized.

What would this program be used for?

Circle Dock / Re: [Translate File] Simplified Chinese

Thanks! There appears to be a unicode issue with the ini file reader in the current version of Circle Dock so it isn't loading Chinese characters correctly. I'll see what's wrong and get it fixed.

Circle Dock / Re: [Suggestion] Task Manager
« on: September 12, 2008, 03:37 PM »
The threading to capture the mouse clicks isn't an issue but you would need a time delay for the user to press the left and right mouse buttons. Otherwise, when the user first presses the left mouse button, we do not know if this click is intended for another program or if it is part of a left-right mouse click combination. Therefore, we have to hook the mouse so that we can introduce a waiting period after every click. If after the waiting period we do not receive another click, we would send that click off to the intended application. If we get another click within the time period, we know to toggle Circle Dock.

The problem is that this waiting time period greatly impacts the usability of clicking normally with the mouse.

Circle Dock / Re: System Requirements for Running Circle Dock
« on: September 12, 2008, 03:13 PM »
Looks like you have a good system there. We will have to see what magic I can pull of in Alpha 9. It will become multi-threaded and I'll brush up on .Net graphics optimzation.

Circle Dock / Re: [Suggestion] Task Manager

What about creating a backgroundworker (I believe that's a thread helper class in dotNET) for listening for the events of mouse clicks?
That would get the annoying bit out of the way, at least that's what I think from my experience with threads and J2ME. It might be a challenge, but hey, who doesn't like one ;)

I'd like this feature... I use firefox to close tabs with middle mouse all the time so I turned that default setting off immediatly :)

Check out this AutoHotkey program that will allow you to use a left and right mouse click combo to toggle Circle Dock: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=14897.0

Do you have a mouse-click example program? (In Java or C#)

Circle Dock / Re: System Requirements for Running Circle Dock
« on: September 12, 2008, 02:42 PM »
Hello,
I don't think there is any software conflicts between Circle Dock and other programs but I think that running Circle Dock in conjunction with other graphics heavy programs may result in a system slowdown if the graphics card can't handle it. Alpha 9 (to be released in mid-October) will address some of the performance issues but I'm not quite sure about what I can do for the minimum graphics card requirements yet. I haven't explored if it is possible for Circle Dock to use hardware acceleration or what needs to be done to lower the graphics card requirements.

As a side note, Circle Dock is currently hard coded to use the highest quality graphics it can generate from the image files it uses so maybe I could add an option to lower the graphics quality like Rocket Dock does.

It would be interesting to know your system specs and what graphics card you would have so I will know in the future what the minimum requirements are.

I want to say that on the copy of Alpha 8 I have on my computer, I have added the ability to run multiple instances of Circle Dock on the same computer at the same time. Some one requested this feature and it is now working. You will be able to run multiple instances by just copying the Circle Dock folder as many times as you want. The program will prevent you from running more than one instance of Circle Dock from one folder to prevent saving over your settings from more than one dock.

i translated to Traditional Chinese and send a PM to eric.
please cleck it.  :)

============================================

i find the Attach button now. and i upload again.

Thanks, there appears to be a problem with the unicode support of the ini file reader used for Circle Dock because I can't see the Chinese characters in Circle Dock. I'm going to check out why the unicode isn't working and post back.

Hello Eric, do you know how to create a true transparent with glass effect image by using photoshop cs3, I want create a Circle Dock Background like this... or you can provide some website for tutorial.

Sorry, I'm not a graphics artist so I don't know how to do those type of things.

Hi, i'd love to translate it into Chinese. so i don't know has it been translated yet?

Hello, in the Circle Dock folder is a sub folder called "Languages". You can make a copy of the English.ini file and translate it to a language of your choice. You can then select the new language file from the Settings Panel of Circle Dock.
