Just for information, what OS do you have and what are the specs of your machine?

Wow, it's not even close to New Years yet and we already have a lot of previews going! Unfortunately, I can't enter the current application I'm working on for NANY, but I will have something else made.

I will try setting up a file structure with the file path in that screenshot and see what happens. From that screenshot, it shows Circle Dock is trying to open up the .lnk file and from the results it seems that is not happening. As a work around for now, couple you manually find the real file path for that executable and replace the .lnk link with the real path? That way, Circle Dock will try to directly open up the real file. For some reason, it appears that for that file, Circle Dock could not resolve the real file path from that .lnk.

Hmm,

This one stumps me if it isn't a problem with the AMS.Profile.dll. Are you on a 32-bit OS or 64-bit OS? Did you download Circle Dock from http://circledock.wikidot.com?

Circle Dock / Re: next release suggestion: docklet support
« on: November 27, 2008, 08:02 PM »
That's cool that they wrote a .NET SDK for docklet development. I just wonder if anyone has created a .NET program that can host the docklets so that it can be used with other programs without having to reverse engineer ObjectDock?

Hello,

The panel shown in your screenshot is not from Circle Dock itself. I need to see the Item Settings panel as shown in the screenshots below:

RightClickMenu.jpg1
ItemSettings.jpg2

The problem may be because of the French language of your system but I have others who use French and don't have the error.

Just out of curiosity, what version of Circle Dock are you using and what is the native language of your operating system?

From the error message, I believe it is a bug with the AMS.Profile.dll file because when I initially modified it to fully support unicode, I did not realize I had to multiply one of the numbers by 2 to fit the characters in the stream. This bug was hard to catch because most of the time, the program that uses AMS.Profile.dll start up fine even with the missing 2. I thought I replaced the AMS.Profile.dll with the fixed one. I know it's in Custom Desktop Logo and the code for AMS.Profile.dll is in that project.

I've attached the most up to date AMS.Profile.dll file to this thread. Just unzip that attachment and replace the current AMS.Profile.dll file in your Circle Dock program directory.

Developer's Corner / Re: Patent trolling or not?
« on: November 26, 2008, 11:34 AM »
If the idea is truly novel and non-obvious to an expert in your field, then I would support a patent, even if it is a software patent. I think the problem with some software patents granted are that they are not novel and not non-obvious to someone working in computer programming. It doesn't make sense to patent every single way that you can solve a problem but if it is indeed some method that is not known or could be developed easily by someone else working on the same problem, then I say go for it.

I think the key question to ask is if you gave the problem you solved to a large group of programmers, would someone come up with a similar idea when solving your problem. If no, then I say you can patent it. If you think that there is a good possibility that someone else would think of it, then I say that it is not patentable.

However, patent offices have some weird ideas about what can be patented and what can not. I think we should start a topic in General Discussion about software patents and what should be patentable and what cannot as well as list some real life examples.

Circle Dock / Re: Excute all files within folder
« on: November 26, 2008, 11:17 AM »
Hello,
I don't think the ability to execute everything within a folder is a feature that is built into Windows itself and I didn't put that into Circle Dock. The best option would be to write a AutoHotkey script that would execute everything you want in one go.

Circle Dock / Re: pb with shortcut drag/drop to circle dock
« on: November 26, 2008, 11:15 AM »
Hello,
Can you right-click on the icon on Circle Dock itself and select the "Item Settings" option to see what the target link Circle Dock is trying to open? When you open the "Item Settings" window, you will see the path to the file Circle Dock is trying to execute. Circle Dock automatically finds the target of .lnk shortcuts so you should see the actual target file path and not something with .lnk. Please provide a screenshot if possible.

Circle Dock / Re: manually positioning icons on circle?
« on: November 26, 2008, 11:11 AM »
Hello,
Cool screenshot! You can reorder the icons on Circle Dock by dragging and dropping them over one another. It make take a little getting use to because the inner circle has to fill up before the outer one.

Circle Dock / Re: pb with shortcut drag/drop to circle dock
« on: November 23, 2008, 12:12 PM »
Hmm,
I'm assuming you have Windows XP and that when you normally double-click .LNK icons in Windows, they open up programs correctly. Some people had problems with this before Alpha 8 and using non-English operating systems but with Alpha 8, people said the problem was solved. Could you right-click on one of the icons in Circle Dock that is giving you the problem and go into the "Item Settings" panel for it and provide a screenshot? That way, we can see what path Circle Dock is trying to open up. Normally, Circle Dock should be able to find the target executable for a .LNK icon and not actually open the .LNK icon itself.

The boxes at the top are drop down boxes. Click on the arrow pointing downwards in the drop down box and you will see the shortcut combinations you can select. Click on one of them and the shortcut will be changed to what is selected.

Hello, what version of Circle Dock are you using? If you have a version before Alpha 8, go to http://circledock.wikidot.com and download Alpha 8.

The first selector box on the left is for the selecting the shortcut key that shows/hides the Easy Unicode Paster program when it's running. It turns red if some other program is already using the selected shortcut or white if it is ok.

UltraEdit
Eudora

For UltraEdit, it does work with Easy Unicode Paster but you need to ensure that the file you are working with is encoded in either Unicode/UTF-8 or Unicode/UTF-16 when you save it using the "Save As" dialog. Normally, UltraEdit opens an editing area that only handles normal ANSI characters. It is explained in this UltraEdit support article on unicode: http://www.ultraedit...traedit/unicode.html

This also reminds me, I should try and find some links for fonts that have a large portion of the unicode characters encoded and put links to them on the Easy Unicode Paster website. It would probably make it easier for the casual user. I noticed that Windows Vista displays more of the unicode characters by default than XP does. For example, I can see the Arrows unicode characters fine in Vista but that font for it is missing in XP.

I will post an update to the EUP website in a little while for the fonts I find and a bug fix for Easy Unicode Paster that's unrelated to the troubleshooting in this thread.

UltraEdit
Eudora

I just tried out Eudora 7 from http://www.eudora.com/ on my computer and I can confirm that I get the displays ? for unicode characters that it can display no matter if I use Easy Unicode Paster or if I copy and paste unicode text from another text program. I found this thread: http://eudorabb.qual...howthread.php?t=5980 that says that Eudora 7 doesn't support unicode so it's something that the Eudora developers need to fix and not a problem with EUP or your computer.

Which application displays the ? marks? If it's on the web, I can try downloading it and see what's wrong.

Circle Dock / Re: Using Easy Unicode Paster

I've tried an extra step.  Open Easy Unicode Paster, then click on your original application.  Then clicking on a character in the Paster will paste something into your application, but it usually pastes a ? rather than the character you click.  Once in a blue moon it will actually paste the character you click on.

Can you see the characters displayed correctly in Easy Unicode Paster itself? It could be that you don't have the fonts for a particular character. Most computers won't have all the fonts to display all the characters that come with Easy Unicode Paster. Try selecting a different character set.

Hello,
I have tested Easy Unicode Paster on both XP and Vista and they both work. When you click on one of the characters in EUP,it sends it to the application with focus. EUP doesn't take focus when you click on one of the characters. Have you tried using EUP and Notepad, Word, or Firefox? Ensure that some textbox in the application you are working with has the cursor blinking so you know where the characters are being sent.

Some people have posted their circular backgrounds on this sub-forum and I've included most of them in Circle Dock. For a website of circular backgrounds, I don't know of any that exist. For backgrounds and icons in general, check out http://www.deviantart.com/

Hello,
Those are special icons in Windows that Circle Dock is not currently set up to directly link to. What you have to do is create a shortcut for those icons and then drag the shortcuts onto Circle Dock.
