Mouser. Any chance we could get FARR to treat program names like aliases? You have the option to stop search on exact alias match.. can we get an option to do the same for exact program match?

2
Hm. Only one problem I see with it so far.. can we make it so that if an alias matches it will ignore the fuzzy options? When I type the alias for my blog (nutang) it includes a whole long list of other files that have the same letters.

EDIT: Hm. I just checked the box for "stop search on exact alias match" which ends that problem.

Not sure if that's what the update was today or not.. fixing the version info.. but in the help file it now says the latest version is 2.24.01 but has the same changelog as the update 2.23.01. Which isn't actually present in the help file.

Find And Run Robot / Am I doing something wrong?
« on: June 18, 2008, 08:08 AM »
Some of my custom aliases, the ones that are websites, don't let me launch them unless I type the entire alias. Before that, all that shows up in the list is the name of the alias, and http: or https: . The full link doesn't appear until I finish typing. Have I added them wrong? All I do is make an alias name and copy/paste the link into the result box.

Hm. Must have been that new update... Yea I just tried it and it worked fine. Okay. lol. Problem solved.

Find And Run Robot / FARR freezes when trying to search torrentz
« on: June 13, 2008, 12:35 AM »
Every time I try to search an item from torrentz.com, FARR freezes and I have to ctrl-alt-delete to get out of it. Anyone else had any problems with this? I'm using Opera, which just released a new update, so that may be what's causing the issue. If someone else could try this with Opera and see if it repeats.. thanks.

Oh! Another thought. Now that we have this browser plugin, we need someone to allow things like define, wikipedia etc to open in the FARR browser. Especially when you're just going to be looking for a quick answer rather than wanting to launch your browser.

Okay I have a suggestion already for the new browser plugin. It would be great if it could detect the size of the website and adjust accordingly, and then return to proper size when you're done browsing. Google works fine, but I navigated to my own website and either had to use the scroll bars, or re-adjust the width of FARR. Then had to adjust back to my preferred size when I was done.

Yay! Downloading now! Although, why didn't it download via the update program?

Mouser, we need either a new feature request thread, or for the old one to be unlocked. I keep wanting to suggest things that aren't plugins. heh.

For instance, you added the option to have FARR minimize if it loses focus. I'd also like to see a similiar option to have it return to its hidden state if it loses focus. Nevermind. I'm a dumbass. Didn't notice that this already exists. Though I still vote for a new feature request thread.

Find And Run Robot / Multi-selecting in dropdown list
« on: June 06, 2008, 01:02 AM »
I'd love to be able to select more than one program/item in the list. Your general ctrl/shift click multi-select. This would be especially helpful for ignoring several items that show up for a given phrase/keyword. Things that I'd never want to launch or go to. It would also be good for launching multiple programs, if that can be worked out.

Find And Run Robot / Auto-launching aliases?
« on: June 02, 2008, 06:31 PM »
I tried asking this in the chatroom, but I was repeatedly mousered. (And yes, I'm still traumatized, thank you very much.)

Is there a way I can set my own custom aliases that will auto-launch when they match? (Like the core help aliases do?)

Thanks Mouser! I don't know how I missed seeing that on the plugin list...sheesh.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Farr Alias: nircmd alias
« on: May 30, 2008, 06:02 AM »
Okay here's how to add it so that it shows up when you type CMD. In the list of NirCMD aliases, edit CMD. Down at the bottom, add this line.

Hibernate Computer | restartsearch Hibernate /ICON=nircmd_icons\Standby.ico

After that it will show up and run if you type CMD first. But like I said, it's much quicker just to type the alias name rather than type CMD first.

Hm. Did you move the nirCMD folder into your custom alias folder before you edited? Here's what I did exactly. I moved the folder over to my custom aliases (and then restarted FARR), chose the NirCMD aliases from the list (where Reboot, Standy etc are listed). Right-clicked, selected Add New Alias, called it "Sleep", used the result from my previous post, and restarted FARR again. After that it worked fine.

EDIT: Okay, I know what the problem is. I added my alias to the list without adding it to the CMD group. So when you type CMD, it doesn't show up, but if you just type "Sleep" or whatever you call it, it will still show up and run fine.

Not sure if this has been suggested or not (or if it already exists) but, how about a plugin that allows you to close active programs? One that can read the active programs from windows task manager. Something like... when you type CloseProgram <tab> it will list all active programs, and you can either type the one you want to close or select it from the list.

I mentioned this to Mouser and he said I should suggest it as a plugin.

A plugin that could launch different browsers depending on what link you type. (I think that's what he meant.)

What I had suggested was a way to specify in your query what browser was used by adding ff/IE/Opera etc to the beginning, but he said a plugin would be better because it would handle all url launching, even by other FARR aliases. I'll leave it to him to reply here and explain the rest of the idea, since he knows more about the program than I do. heh.

The thing that sparked my suggestion though was wanting to be able to choose which browser would launch, rather than having it just use my default. So I could launch say... irc://irc.prison.net/#donationcoder and have it open Firefox, since that's where I have my IRC program.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Farr Alias: nircmd alias

Thanks. Another question for ya. I added an alias that uses nircmd's emptybin function to empty my recycling bin, but I can't find the recycling bin image on my computer anywhere... any idea where I would look for that? Thanks.

I did it!  ;D

Not exactly sure what the format for this should be, so I'll just copy/paste what I did. I copied the line for Standby, changed the right places so they said hibernate, used the same image (since windows uses the same one, it's just a slightly darker color), and changed the windows cmd command to Hibernate. Simple enough. (Tested it too, just in case. It works fine.) Thanks for the help and the push Mouser.

EDIT: Forgot to say what I named the Alias, but I guess people can name it whatever they want. Personally I prefer using "Sleep" since it's shorter and easier to type than "Hibernate".

Hibernate Computer | %ALIASDIR%nircmd.exe qboxcom "Do you want to Hibernate the computer?" "question" Hibernate /ICON=nircmd_icons\Standby.ico

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Farr Alias: nircmd alias

Thanks guys. That's perfect. Easy enough. Like I said though it might not hurt for plugin writers to include a little readme file with the simple instructions. (Though it should also mention that you need to restart FARR for the plugin to take effect.)

Thanks again. Love this program.

EDIT: Quick question about this plugin. It has standby, but it seems to be missing a command to put the computer in Hibernate (which I use far more often.) Is there any way for me to add that myself? Thanks.

Sorry, I know this thread is kind of old, but could someone please explain how to install this plugin? It would really help if these things came with readme's...

Thanks.
