AbteriX,

I am a little late here. Is this similar to what you are asking?

In your second post you make reference to different measurement devices/instruments that may be used.
So not only will the user need to configure software or firmware for using the device, they also will have to follow certain other steps related to the application and device for everything to operate properly.

It will be a combination of things software, hardware and application?

A thought. Possibility you have a keyboard starting to get flaky?
I've read of similar things, with totally different programs, that after all sorts of settings chasing and hair pulling it ended up being the keyboard.

thanks bob -- so your single-instance detection is working correctly.
ps. the new beta does away with that "hello there" message.

There's probably some other reason you are taking out the "Hello there" message. But it never bothered me. Actually I kind of liked the reminder I had it already running. Sometimes some of my tray icons disappear for seemingly no reason. In my case it kept me from having two instances running.

31
With SC already running and using the run command I get the "Hello there! You've tried to launch a new copy..." popup. I got a UAC popup 1st asking if I wanted it to run.

Just tried it again. Same result. Single instance popup.

I'm on Win 7 Pro, x64 machine. SC is installed in the x86 program files folder.

Edit
Should have told you I'm still running V4.8. Haven't installed the beta yet.

I see the difference. Similar to copy/pastes I've done in other programs. It's not a big thing but my at times OCD tendencies would have me trying to fix it to look the same. I've done it before.
If I want perfect verbatim copies of complete web pages, I would use Local Website Archive, which does that job well.  You might find the free-for-personal-use version adequate.  It looks like recent versions have more features than I realised, but, AFAICS, it's a whole-page-capture program, and doesn't intend to have all the features of a note-taker.
I think for the time being I'll stay with version 2 and keep saving my web pages in TreeProjects.
Does that mean that you prefer TreeProjects' web page capture to RightNote's, or, that having a TreeProjects license or not needing one, there's no point in upgrading RightNote?
Thanks for the link to Local Website Archive. I'll be checking it out.

On using TreeProjects for my web page saves, you hit both reasons. I do prefer it because it is easier for ME to use. I've done it enough times I am able to get the page into TreeProjects with just a few keystrokes. And like you mention, I have the license. It works for me so no real need to spend the extra money right now.

I do think RightNote is a good program. I'll probably continue to use my purchased version 2 for some of my needs. I just don't use Evernote enough to invest in version 3 yet.

what are your thoughts on the webpage note feature? I was going to give it a try and installed the version 3 update. It changed my license to the freeware version instead of a trial and I haven't been able to get the webpage note feature to work.
I've been using it a bit as a stash for clips from the web.  Not quite everything works the way I'd like, I think there are still issues around scrolling the tree to the current clip, but I consider the quality of the web clips to be good.  Here is a comparison of a direct screenshot from Firefox with the same thing clipped in RightNote:

Left - Firefox:                 Right - RightNote (see attachment in previous post)   (see attachment in previous post)
A quick check of Wikipedia gave even better results.  Be aware that the web clip feature is only available in the Pro version.  See RightNote Version Comparisons.

Thanks for posting the comparisons. I see the difference. Similar to copy/pastes I've done in other programs. It's not a big thing but my at times OCD tendencies would have me trying to fix it to look the same. I've done it before.

RightNote is a great program though.

I'm thinking of updating my version 2 license to 3.
To anyone that already has, what are your thoughts on the webpage note feature? I was going to give it a try and installed the version 3 update. It changed my license to the freeware version instead of a trial and I haven't been able to get the webpage note feature to work.
I've been using TreeProjects to save web pages and it's working but would like to compare the two.

I haven't emailed Bauer yet, thought I'd ask here 1st.

Thanks

Screenshot Captor / Re: Where are comments stored?
« on: September 29, 2013, 01:05 PM »
FWIW, XnView has search (Tools-->Search) that includes searching EXIF but when I tried the SC comments they are not EXIF, at least not to XnView

EXIF is an area where I've consistently found software sorely lacking. There are GREAT libraries to help out with it all, but... their implementations in different programs are often lacking.

Still couldn't locate my old post to reference but I know it's around somewhere. Anyway, I also tried a number of different programs to search for comments data. And I also wanted to try and generate a catalog or list of sorts with the filename, date and the comments o saved with the screenshot. It seemed like it should be pretty easy but wasn't.

From what I remember, the comments are stored in the Exif data. But, the field name (tag in Exif lingo) is different for file types. Jpg,png, etc. While reading up on Exif data formats I learned it seemed to be more beneficial to photographers for camera settings etc than for comments, descriptions fields/tags. No consistency.

For me at the time, it ended up it took less time manually going through and creating my own lists than trying the different progs and figuring out a way to do it.

I think it would be a great NANY app contribution.
I'll be watching this thread to see if anything new comes out.

I was looking for a way to do this some time ago. Can't seem to find my old post at the moment to reference. But did find this one. May be of help.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Launchbar commander not saving to PC.

I had the same thing happen to me with Win7 if I did not give LBC admin privilege when I started it. When I do the problem stopped. Could this be the case here?

Screenshot Captor / Re: Question about post-capture file naming
« on: March 29, 2013, 08:02 AM »
Probably not along the lines of what cranioscopical is looking for??
But after some time using the great new caption pop-up feature I'll throw this out to consider. It's kind of similar but different.
At times it's handy to take one or a couple of quick screenshots that are different than say a group of shots (or category) that have been set up using the dedicated file naming or quickfield setup from configuration or the main window.
Would it worthwhile to have an additional user input line in the pop-up for entering a "special" filename different than the pre-configured one. With maybe a tick box that says "use the over ride" otherwise the standard configuration.
Possibly the override could come from the caption?

An idea to kick around anyway. Might be useful to others.

Congratulations on Version 4 Mouser.  :beerchug:
It has to feel good for you to get there. That's one looooong list of new features, improvements and fixes.

42
Looks like that fixed it.

43
mouser,

Downloaded and installed 3.30 (about says it"s 3.32.01 though  :) )
Anyway the captions items I've been testing are still working fine.
Have noticed something about the windows focus. Don't recall if this was happening before.

This test is with 3 different windows open.
1. Take a screenshot (last active window) using the quick capture bar.
2. Pop-up appears, add caption or not, and press Save image and show.
3. SC main window appears, but focus remains on the window that was captured. Is this the way it supposed to behave?
4. Also tested with hotkey. Same results.

2nd test
1. Using Quick Capture Bar, click on Toggle Screenshot Capture Window.
2. SC main window is displayed but none of the 3 open windows, or the just opened SC window has focus.
3. To see if it was an SC options setting I clicked on the options button in the quick capture bar. The options window is displayed (with focus) but as soon I move off of the quick capture bar it looses focus along with the other displayed windows. No focus on any of the open windows.
Just checked and the focus is on the desktop. I move my cursor over any of the desktop icons and they highlight.

I've tested a number of times and it is repeatable here.

So same questions as a while back on something else. Is this normal operation or possibly my machine/settings?
It's not a problem for me at least since I know to expect it now. But thought I'd mention in case you want to take a look.

44
For some reason I hadn't tried the clipart feature until recently.
It's very useful and something I'll be using more now.

Thanks app103 for providing the updated clipart.

45
I noticed this happening and just figured it was my machine taking a little longer to refresh or whatever it would be called. When they don't show up I found that if I go over and click in one of the "dead" areas of the bar the tool tips would wake up. Takes maybe a second and just an extra click. The more I am using it I've learned what each icon is and really don't notice if they are there or not now.

Mouser,
It probably won't be too long until the final. But until then could you add something in the 'about' screen or somewhere a sub number, letter or something to tell us the minor tweak version number we're working with.  I want to make sure I'm testing the latest.  :)

46
Mouser,

I ran it through some tests and the items I'd mentioned with the captions and captions pop-up are still working fine.
Also do not see any problem with the save as.

47
It would be helpful to me at least if you went into a bit more detail using post capture command line feature. Other possibilities other than just the ftp mentioned.

If you want to get some experience with commandline manipulation of screenshot image files, check out the Tools menu and folder of SC.  It shows how a variety of tools can be launched on image files.

Will do.

One last...
I don't know if this one is even able to be done. Since the best I recall every other program with CHM help is the same way.
Is it possible to add one main heading with all of the current 6 SC headings under it as sub-topics? So the entire help can be sent to a printer/PDF at once instead of by each topic section.

SC 3_29_01 Test CHM  - 001_ver003.png

The list of new and improved is vast, so a bump to 4.0 is quite valid.

+1 agree.

49
I'm thinking of making some more short how-to videos for Screenshot Captor, to show how to do certain things efficiently.
Does anyone have any requests for specific how-to videos for SC?
(existing videos are here).

You'll already be busy covering all of the new features. But if you decide to re-do the options screencast SC11 it would be helpful to me at least if you went into a bit more detail using post capture command line feature. Other possibilities other than just the ftp mentioned.
Many of the things that would have been done in the past via command line are probably now already built in, adding captions for instance, but there probably are still a few things (?) that might be able to be done that users not yet fully knowledgeable/comfortable with command line (me) could do.

I may have a request. Want to go back through the previous ones again 1st.
Will try and let you know by tomorrow.
