Clipboard Help+Spell / User Tools In Quick Paste Menu
« on: October 13, 2011, 07:15 AM »
I created an user tool in AHK (taking the input and output files as commandline arguments) that works fine if I run it from Modify Format and Case|User Tools menu

However this tool does not show up in the Formatting presets menu of the quick paste menu. What am I missing - how does one enable an user tool to be usable from the quick paste menu?

IFYP = I fix your post I feel your pain ...

I fix ur post :-)
(I had to google for it too, in spite of having seen it before)

This is what I meant (well, "I fixed your post" to be precise) - I see this used quite often in another forum that I frequent - did not think it is a strange, barely used acronym (though it is a fairly niche forum).

I'm a bit disappointed no one has done a sprint run around the path. That's what you'd be expected to do in Half-Life; leaping over the collapsed sections while something is chasing/shooting you rather than tip-toeing over the steel rods - how hard can it be, I've done it loads of times in the game - and only fell to my death occasionally.

IFYP.

The Wikipedia entry says that video is a test for agoraphobia, and the original Youtube description says:

The Acrophobia  entry says "Acrophobia  is an extreme or irrational fear of heights." Fearing this is not irrational. More likely this is a test for insanity.

I'll take one.  Do I qualify?   :D

I believe you need 2500 posts to qualify :D

This sounds seriously cool - almost makes me wish to install Steam

32
Very slow startup if you give it a large folder to index.
Locate32 can be run portably too - will stick with it (at least there I can schedule the indexing)

33
I do hope it starts up quicker the second run than the first - as I am still waiting (but gave it a huge folder to index - want to see if it can replace Locate32 for me).

Will comment once (if) it finishes!

Also, Acid3 is 100/100 points now.  ;D But seriously, who cares?

Especially since web developers build web pages to work with browsers - not Acid3.
Which is why I still have to use IETab to display a whole bunch of webpages that just does not render correctly in anything but IE

35
Robocopy

Completely command line driven and has never let me down.

36
Sounds cool!

I presume you seen this and this?  I think they have created their own cut-down MiKTeX installations but I don't remember anymore.  I do have a portable LaTeX on a USB stick but I haven't used it for so long that I don't recall where I downloaded it from.

Cannot open the first one at the moment - but I have seen the second one (though the page does not exist anymore).
The problem is not only portability but size as well. I have MikTex Portable (MikTex) However it is too large to (1) bundle with the application (157MB download) (2) too large too copy to a RamDisk every time you run this app (362MB install, 11k files).

This is not the end of the world the rest of my application will still work even without a minimalist LaTex.

I will check your first link at home - hopefully it does not have any licensing issues as well.

N.A.N.Y. 2012 / NANY 2012 Pledge: Fast Latex Automatic Kompiler (FLAK)
« on: September 20, 2011, 01:01 AM »
NANY 2012 Entry Information
FLAK Fast LaTeX Automatic Kompiler
Version 0.1
Short DescriptionFLAK automatically compiles a master tex file when the file, or other files in the directory, changes.
Supported OSes Windows XP (tested)
Older versions of Windows may work
Newer versions should work (please report if it doesn't)
Setup File None at this stage - pre-alpha
System RequirementsCurrent (pre-alpha)
  • RoboCopy must be installed on the system path (to be replaced with internal copying in a later version)
  • MikTex (other Tex distributions coming) must be installed
  • TexStudio must be installed (Current pre-alpha version - to be removed)
  • A lock-up free PDF previewer (for example the TexStudio built-in)
  • Administration rights (for RamDisk - will be made optional)
  • RamDisk Tools must be installed (http://archive.msdn....oft.com/ramdisktools - will be made an option)
Planned
  • A latex distribution must be installed
  • A lock-up free previewer (for example the TexStudio built-in PDF viewer)
  • Optional: RamDisk Tools (Will be slower without it - but will work - requires Administration Rights)
Author InfocapitalH
DescriptionFLAK automatically compiles LaTeX projects that you are working on, by monitoring a user specified directory for changes to files. Once such a change is detected, the project is copied to a RamDisk where the project is compiled. FLAK gives you:
  • a faster
  • automatic
  • lockup free
way to compile your LaTeX projects. Should compilation be successful, the output (currently only PDF supported) is copied back to the source directory.
Use cases
  • Automatic compiling speeds up the compile cycle - especially for new users who wants to compile often
  • Automatically run makeindex and other required tools
  • Speed up compilation by using a RamDisk - speeds up compiling significantly on slow drives (for example network drives)
  • Keeps your source directory clean of temporary files - all work is done in a temporary folder
  • Untested: Use FLAK to automatically compile Latex output produced by other programs
  • Untested: Use with DropBox (or similar program) to perform remote compiles on computers without Latex installed, or on devices (e.g. Android/iPad) that you cannot install Latex on
Features
  • Command Line options
  • Portable (works best with a portable Tex distribution)
  • Fast! The RamDisk usage of FLAK speeds up compilation by about x2 in tests compared to normal on disk compilation.
  • Launches TexStudio on startup (if not launched already)
  • Launches MikTex Portable on startup (if not launched already)
ScreenshotsComing soon!
InstallationComing soon
Using the applicationComing soon!
UninstallingThe program does not make any changes to the registry and is fully contained in the installation directory.
(TBC that RAMDisk is portable)
Known Issues
  • Only PDFLatex is supported currently
  • RoboCopy is required for copying
  • RamDisk is limited to 50MB (manual change can be made - plans to make this configurable)
  • Requires TexStudio
  • RamDisk leaves traces in the registry
Alpha Testing Assistance
  • Icon design
  • Confirm that RamDisk is portable (Confirmed that it is not stealth - will add code to remove registry traces)
  • Licensing - Can I distribute RamDisk with the program/or download it automatically and extract for the user?
  • Usability suggestions
  • Bug reports
  • Suggest features/comments on planned features
  • If you know of any Latex distribution small enough to bundle with the application and that runs portably (which will then be included on the RamDisk) please let me know. It must be small enough though not to add too much bloat to the download size - or the RamDisk
Planned features/changes
  • Remove TexStudio dependence
  • Disable RamDisk usage (configurable) - use temporary directory instead
  • First use options
  • Multiple master files
  • \include scanning
  • Makeindex MD5 calculation - rebuild if required
  • Automatic backups
  • Internal copying (remove RoboCopy reliance and possibly faster)
  • Other LaTeX distributions/plain Tex
  • Configurable options to be passed to LaTeX compiler
  • Automatic priority setting for PDFLatex.exe
  • Show last error log tray option
  • Filter error log tray option
  • Compatibility with other PDF viewers

DC Member Programs and Projects / Re: MS Office is breaking ALT-TAB
« on: September 13, 2011, 07:00 AM »
The problem is Excel has a mixed interface (bit of MDI and a bit of SDI)

To the casual observer (so without going to Task Manager) Excel looks like it is SDI.

For each document there is a task bar entry, and there is no apparent tab in Excel to change documents (yes there is ctrl+tab and the menu entries but I did say apparent)

I would have preferred if Excel went either MDI or SDI.
With MDI they should
1) add a tab with open documents (on the ribbon please)
2) Add a save all option
3) Only one Taskbar+Alt+Tab entry

With SDI
1) one instance/document

Best case scenario of course would be to do both and allow you to choose.

I suppose I should not use the same technique as I use on password fields in websites (or email fields) where I copy it to the second field...

N.A.N.Y. 2012 / Re: NANY 2012 Early Beta: Portable Extension Warlock
« on: September 08, 2011, 01:58 AM »
Cannot get DropZone to work.

PortableExtensionWarlock.exe works fine - added Notepad++
Launched DropZone - created the icon on my desktop
dragged a txt file on it - got the error message that "Could not be found" - does not say what could not be found

Windows XP SP3 , .Net4

42
My backup claim to fame is when I tried to restore the backup.

By force of habit I ran the batch file that backs up my data.

Which then proceeded and deleted the backup!

General Software Discussion / Re: Opera 11.5 Released
« on: June 29, 2011, 08:58 AM »
One weird thing... I had Opera Mobile on my phone, and have updated it, and installed Opera Mini... Huh?  Seems odd... I'm not sure what the difference is, but I'll look into it.

Opera mini compresses the website (and images) server side - hence is much more data usage friendly (and speeds it up in some cases). Also, it appears (my own personal experience, no other evidence) to be less memory hungry than Opera Mobile as well.

44
Mouser, of your three options

1) My preferred choice
2) Although probably quicker than (1) and with the ability to have realtime updates, you have to index file sizes etc separately. Also, it may have the same limitation(s) as Everything (see below)
3) Everything, great in certain aspects does not index dates, sizes etc. More importantly though (for me) is that it cannot index network drives without running on the server. Should you wish to continue with this route, I would like to still have the FARR heuristics with everything (because I can never remember if it is 7zip or 7-zip).

1) above may also help for greater meta-data indexing, which is frequently useful for filtering results (or can even be used for heuristics), as well as run with lower overhead.

Another option could be to start with (3) but with another indexer (e.g. locate32) than Everything, and then create your own indexer to replicate the locate32 index in the next version (although I am guessing that it would be easier to build your own index than to try and figure out what locate32 does), or to start with a very simple index (only filenames and paths) and extend from there.

In South Africa, I found that pre-grad books were relatively cheap (About R100-R300 ~ $14-$42 at current FX), however postgrad books where the market is terribly small the books easily jumped to R1500-R3000. Luckily though if you are the only student (like I was), you just borrow the library copy permanently (and return it for a day when your two renewals expires).

46
Ah well the speech engine download is only needed for windows xp, and should not be needed if you dont enable speech option in the program.
i'll check and fix it if it is.

I have Windows XP and your program crashes immediately upon running (main program, configure program and test window crashes).

I edited the .ini file and set everything with speech in it = false - still crashing

I cannot figure out how to add a screenshot as an attachment - but the error is

"OLE error 8004503A, ClassID: {73AD6842-ACE0-45E8-A4DD-8795881A2C2A}"

My ahk hack is done at least so not a big problem - although not as pretty as yours, and no sound (yet).

47
If you don't want it to recognize your speech then it sounds like you want CrazyLittleFingers.

Thanks - although since my kid is learning the alphabet I want to display the letters on screen as well.

Busy hacking up an AHK solution - almost done at least (but pictures only - mp3s would have to wait for translation).

48
A few quick points:

  • You can disable the speech recognition part, and it will just respond to keys tapped on the keyboard.
  • The download size is large, but that has nothing to do with the speech support, it's because the download includes a couple hundred images.
  • At some point I very well may break up the download into two parts, a core download, and an image pack download.  That would make it easier to update.

Your program (https://www.donation...ceCommanderSetup.exe) is 33.3 MB.

The speech engine ( https://www.donation...ognition_Runtime.msi) is 49.7MB

About disabling the speech recognition - I would rather not install the second download (SAPI 5 runtime) at all than just to disable it.

49
The download page states that is 29MB (it is 33.3MB)
Also it would be helpful to the size of the speech engine as it is large (20MB downloaded - unknown size) and DoCo seems a bit slow on the download side...

One comment that I do have (before being able to run the program) is that I am not interested in the speech engine part - it would have been nice to have this as an option so that one does not have download and install another bloated piece of software.

Living Room / Re: Daily Autohotkey
« on: May 09, 2011, 01:51 AM »
By me (or modified by me)
AltTab - based on http://www.autohotkey.net/~evl/AltTab/AltTab.ahk, but heavily modified.
BetterPaste - Plain text pasting
AutoBackup - Detects if my external HD is inserted and the starts the backup (after a confirmation of course, otherwise if I want to do a restore it would be a problem!)
SimpleVersionControl - Once every hour, makes a copy of every changed dox, docx, xls, xlsx etc. and renames it with the time-date in the filename (heavy lifting done by RoboCopy+Dos Batch File (Renaming part), SVC is just a scheduler)
KeePassByPass - Simple script to have KeePass work properly with IE (some passwords were sent incomplete with 1/2 characters missing)
Startup - Runs a list of programs depending if I am at work or at home

By other people
ShutDown Timer - ShutDown after a specified amount of time
FolderMenu - not done by me, but was written in AHK

Stuff that I am working on (but not usable)
Work Logger - Capturing of active window titles, assignment to projects based on rules, and reporting of time spent on those projects
TDL Sync - Sync ToDoList http://www.codeproject.com/KB/applications/todolist2.aspxto GroupWise
ShutDown Timer2 - ShutDown when a process cease to exist (should be easy - but just have not started with it yet)
