FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: hamNotes (A FARR2 Plugin by hamradio)
« on: November 24, 2009, 06:53 PM »
I've seen this plugin listed for awhile, but just got around to trying it today - awesome!

When I'm teaching various workshops and need to keep a running list of questions/suggestions/bugs, this will be tremendously handy!

I was looking for a way to edit an existing note though (I can see needing to do that frequently), w/o having to choose edit from the context menu.  Is that possible?  Is there another switch that I'm missing?

Thanks!!

Hey Mouser, it happens - no harm, no foul.   8)

Thanks for the quick fix - this seems to take care of all of the problems I was experiencing!

Hi Mouser,

FYI...  I just installed the new version, but suddenly my user variables no longer work.  I haven't dug too deep yet, I'll try to investigate more.

EDIT:  Well, now I don't know...  some of my user variables are no longer working.  I have a user variable called UtilitiesHome in the [Environment] section of my user variable definitions that references C:\Utilities.  Using %uservar.Environment.UtilitiesHome% in an alias no longer works.  However, a similar reference to C:\Program Files by the ProgramFiles variable in the same [Environment] section seems to work just fine.

I've also noticed that any alias that launches a program brings up a dialog asking which user to run the program as (WinXP, SP3)...  that could get annoying, since I just want them to all run as me (I'm on an admin account... yes, bad form, I know).  Doesn't seem to affect programs that are launched from search though - just aliases.

EDIT 2:  Argh, actually, in order to run as the current user, I have to uncheck the box that says "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity" every time I run it - otherwise it won't launch at all.  Sorry for all of the edits.

Do you by chance have an anti-virus program installed on 7 that you didn't on XP?  I haven't played with 7 enough to have seen a difference yet, but I know on XP my anti-virus has this effect...  I've tried both AVG and Avira and they both do it, so I would assume others as well.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Useful firefox extension for FARR users
« on: October 26, 2009, 02:42 PM »
AWESOME, thanks for this!

I constantly find myself doing the same thing you mentioned when I happen to use the awesome bar and it's incredibly frustrating - so this extension will help a lot!

Incidentally I've entirely replaced all of my bookmark keyword searches with FARR now, so that missing feature with this extension is a non-issue.  As a matter of fact, most of the time I hardly use the firefox address bar anyway - it's so much more convenient (even when Firefox is already open) to just Alt+Space (my FARR shortcut) and type in the web address there, then having to remember Ctrl+L in Firefox as well.  Now if only if FARR could integrate Firefox's autocomplete/awesomebar-awesomeness...

Thanks!
