If anyone is interested I found a Firefox Add-on that does exactly what I want (open the page source as a plain text file) in my editor of choice (metapad). You can also open the pages CSS file from the buttoms menu, plus other options I'm unsure about, but at the moment I don't need them.

The Add-on is called ViewSouceWith and is avaialble from the authors website here...

I use Firefox 3.0 and have just installed the add-on Firebug for editing wepages.

I code webpages manuually and have set up Firebug to open my fav text editor (metapad). However this is burried in the menu (3 clicks) and I was hoping it would be possible for someone to code a button which can be added to the toolbar to open my configured text editor in the same way the default Firebug does - is it possible?

*EDIT*
I just had a look at Skrommel's Barnacle and although I think it is the sort of thing I'm asking for, I can't get it to work. If anyone else has already invented this wheel then I'd appreciate a copy.

No one mentioned FreePOPs so thought I would - I usually use Poppy, but it wouldn't get Hotmail whereas FreePOPs does.

...as it's obviously violating copyright just to start editing someone's work without their consent.

Surely changing something at this level doesn't infringe copyright unless the fan attempts to go commercial with their version - then they are in copyright infringement terriory. Maybe the owners could bring some lawsuit if the original work was brought into disrepute or its or the owners reputation was damaged in some way, but is that going to happen with a fanedit?

General EMAIL Notifier.
Eveyone has multiple email accounts (hotmail / my ISP  etc) so a notifier proggy is the way to go is't it?

Hers my idea...
We add 2 or more email addresses that sit in the Sytem Tray and say "hey you got and email to X from Z" sort of thing.

Thanks.

Mmm all interesting apps guys, but not quite what I'm looking for. I don't want yet another full program which includes a similar option, but want the simple tweak to performs the specific task.

Is anyone up for coding this?

As an ex-Acorn user (RiscOS) one convenient function I miss in Windows (XP SP2) is the ability to right-click the close button in explorer folder view to close the folder and also open its parent (like Windows 'up a level' option which uses an icon sometimes - if available).

A similar function worked when closing a file (right-click on the X), which would open the folder the file was in as well as closing the file. Makes browsing faster as you can move through folders in both directions with less clicks.  8)

Sound simple, but is it possible to implement in Windows?
